¹If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

²Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

²napolnite mi veselje s tem, da ste složni, da imate eno ljubezen, enodušno ravnate, za eno skrbite;

³Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

⁴Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

¹¹And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹²Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

¹²Zatorej, ljubljeni moji, kakor ste bili vsekdar poslušni, ne samo v pričujočnosti moji, temuč mnogo bolj sedaj v nepričujočnosti moji, v strahu in trepetu vršite zveličanje svoje;

¹³For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

¹⁴Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

¹⁴Vse delajte brez godrnjanja in pomišljanja,

¹⁵That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

¹⁵da bodete brez pogreška in čisti, otroci Božji brez madeža sredi sključenega in spačenega rodú, med katerimi se svetite kakor nebeške luči na svetu

¹⁶Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

¹⁶in jim predstavljate besedo življenja; da imam hvalo za dan Kristusov, da nisem zastonj tekal in ne trudil se zastonj.

¹⁷Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

¹⁸For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

¹⁹But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

¹⁹Upam pa v Gospoda Jezusa, da vam skoraj pošljem Timoteja, da bodem tudi jaz mirnega srca, ko zvem, kako je pri vas.

²⁰For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

²⁰Nikogar namreč nimam enakega mišljenja, ki bo pošteno skrbel za vaše zadeve;

²¹For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

²¹zakaj vsi iščejo svojega, ne kar je Kristusa Jezusa.

²²But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

²²Preizkušenost pa poznate njegovo, da je, kakor otrok z očetom, z menoj služil za širjenje evangelija.

²³Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

²³Tega torej upam poslati, precej ko izprevidim, kako bo z menoj.

²⁴But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

²⁴Trdno se pa nadejam v Gospodu, da tudi sam pridem skoraj.

²⁵Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

²⁵Potrebno se mi je pa zdelo poslati k vam Epafrodita, brata in sodelavca in sovojaka mojega, vašega pa poslanca in služabnika potrebe moje;

²⁶For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

²⁶kajti hrepenel je po vas vseh in se žalostil, ker ste slišali, da je zbolel.

²⁷For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

²⁷In res, da je zbolel in je bil blizu smrti; ali Bog se ga je usmilil, a ne samo njega, ampak tudi mene, da ne bi imel žalosti nad žalost.

²⁸I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

²⁸Tem hitreje torej sem ga poslal, da ga vidite ter se veselite in da bodem jaz manj žalosten.

²⁹Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

²⁹Sprejmite ga torej v Gospodu z vsem veseljem, in take imejte v čislih;kajti zaradi dela Kristusovega se je bil približal smrti, vnemar pustivši življenje, da bi nadomestil, s čimer mi vi niste mogli poslužiti.

³⁰Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
