¹What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

¹Kaj torej porečemo? Bomo li ostali v grehu, da se milost pomnoži?

²God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

²Nikakor ne! Mi, ki smo umrli grehu, kako bomo še živeli v njem?

³Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

³Ali pa ne veste, da smo se, katerikoli smo bili krščeni v Kristusa Jezusa, krstili v smrt njegovo?

⁴Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

⁴Pokopani smo torej bili ž njim vred po krstu v smrt, da naj tako, kakor je vstal Kristus iz mrtvih po Očetovi slavi, hodimo tudi mi v novem življenju.

⁵For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

⁵Kajti če smo ž njim združeni po podobnosti njegove smrti, bomo tudi po podobnosti njegovega vstajenja,

⁶Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

⁶vedoč to, da je bil stari naš človek ž njim na križ razpet, da se zatare telo greha, da bi več ne sužnjevali grehu.

⁷For he that is dead is freed from sin.

⁷Zakaj kdor je umrl, je oproščen [Ali: opravičen.] greha.

⁸Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

⁸Če smo pa umrli s Kristusom, verujemo, da bomo tudi živeli ž njim,

⁹Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

⁹ker vemo, da Kristus, obujen iz mrtvih, ne umrje več, smrt nad njim ne gospoduje več.

¹⁰For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

¹⁰Kajti s smrtjo, ki jo je storil, je umrl grehu enkrat za vselej; življenje pa, ki ga živi, živi Bogu.

¹¹Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹¹Tako tudi vi sodite o sebi, da ste mrtvi grehu, a živi Bogu v Kristusu Jezusu.

¹²Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

¹²Naj torej ne kraljuje greh v vašem smrtnem telesu, da poslušate poželenja njegova.

¹³Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

¹³Tudi ne dajajte svojih udov grehu za orožje krivice, temuč dajte sebe Bogu, kakor kateri ste bili mrtvi in zdaj ste živi, in ude svoje dajte Bogu za orožje pravičnosti.

¹⁴For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

¹⁴Kajti greh ne bo nad vami gospodoval, ker niste pod postavo, ampak pod milostjo.

¹⁵What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

¹⁵Kaj torej? bomo li grešili, ker nismo pod postavo, ampak pod milostjo? Nikakor ne!

¹⁶Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

¹⁶Ne veste li, če dajete sebe za hlapce v pokorščino, da ste hlapci tistemu, kogar poslušate: ali grehu za smrt, ali pa poslušnosti za pravičnost?

¹⁷But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

¹⁷A hvala Bogu, da ste bili sužnji grehu, pa ste iz srca postali pokorni obliki nauka, ki ste vanj bili postavljeni;

¹⁸Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

¹⁸osvobojeni pa greha, ste postali služabniki pravičnosti.

¹⁹I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

¹⁹Po človeško govorim zavoljo slabosti vašega mesa. Kakor ste namreč dali svoje ude v sužnost nečistosti in nepravičnosti, da bi delali nepravičnost, tako dajte sedaj svoje ude v službo pravičnosti v posvečenje.

²⁰For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

²⁰Kajti ko ste bili sužnji greha, ste bili svobodni glede pravičnosti.

²¹What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

²¹Kakšen sad ste torej imeli takrat od tega, česar se sedaj sramujete? Kajti konec tega je smrt.

²²But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

²²Sedaj pa, ko ste osvobojeni greha in ste postali Božji služabniki, imate sad svoj, ki vodi v posvečenje, a konec večno življenje.Kajti plačilo za greh je smrt, a milostni dar Božji je večno življenje v Kristusu Jezusu, Gospodu našem.

²³For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
