¹Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

¹«ЭЙ бародарон ва эй падарон! Он чиро, ки пеши шумо барои муҳофизати худ арз менамоям, гӯш кунед».

²(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

²Чун шуниданд, ки ба онҳо ба забони ибронӣ сухан мекунад, боз зиёдтар хомӯш шуданд. Ӯ гуфт:

³I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

³«Ман яхудӣ ҳастам, ки дар Тарсуси Қилиқия таваллуд шудаам ва дар ин шаҳр дар хизмати "Ҷамлиил тарбият ёфтаам ва шариати падаронро бодиққат омӯҳтаам ва дар роҳи Худо ғаюр будам, чунон ки ҳамаи шумо имрӯз ҳастед;

⁴And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

⁴«Ва ин тариқатро то ба дараҷаи марг таъқиб менамудам ва мардону занонро побанд карда, дар зиндон меандохтам;

⁵As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

⁵«Дар бораи ман саркоҳин ва ҳамаи пирон низ шаҳодат ҳоҳанд дод, ки ман аз онҳо номаҳо гирифта, ба Димишқ назди бародарон рафта будам, то ки дар он ҷо масеҳиёнро бандӣ карда, барои ҷазо ба Ерусалим биёрам;

⁶And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

⁶«Аммо дар аснои роҳ, вакте ки ба Димишқ наздик меомадам, қариби пешин баногоҳ нури азиме аз осмон давродаври ман дурахшид;

⁷And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

⁷«Бар замин афтодам ва овозе шунидам, ки ба ман мегуфт: "Шоул, Шоул! Барои чӣ Маро таъқиб мекунӣ?"

⁸And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

⁸«Ба ҷавоб гуфтам: "Худовандо, Ту кистӣ?" Ӯ ба ман гуфт: "Ман он Исои Носирй ҳастам, ки ту Ӯро таъқиб мекунӣ".

⁹And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

⁹«Онҳое ки ҳамроҳи ман буданд, нурро дида, ҳаросон шуданд, вале овози Он Касро, ки бо ман сухан мегуфт, намешуниданд.

¹⁰And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

¹⁰«Он гоҳ ман гуфтам: "Худовандо! Чӣ кунам!" Худованд ба ман гуфт: "Бархез ва ба Димишқ бирав, ва дар он ҷо ҳар коре ки бояд бикунӣ, ба ту гуфта ҳоҳад шуд".

¹¹And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

¹¹«Азбаски ман аз дурахши он нур нобино пгуда будам, ҳамроҳонам аэ дастам гирифта, маро ба Димишқ бурданд.

¹²And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

¹²«Ҳанониё ном марди порсои мутеи шариат, ки дар миёни ҳамаи яҳудиёни сокини Димишқ некном буд,

¹³Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

¹³«Назди ман омада, истоду ба ман гуфт: "Эй бародар Шоул! Бино шав". Дарҳол чащмонам кушода шуду ман ӯро дидам.

¹⁴And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

¹⁴«Ӯ гуфт: "Худои падарони мо туро баргузидааст, то ки иродаи Ӯро дарк намоӣ ва Он Одилро бубинӣ ва аз забонаш сухане бишнавӣ,

¹⁵For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

¹⁵"Чунки аз он чи дидаӣ ва шунидай, дар пеши тамоми мардум шоҳиди Ӯ хоҳӣ шуд;

¹⁶And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

¹⁶"Пас, чаро таъҳир мекунй? Бархез ва таъмид бигир ва исми Ӯро хонда, аз гуноҳҳои ҳуд пок шав".

¹⁷And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

¹⁷«Вақте ки ба Ерусалим баргашта, дар маъбад дуо мегуфтам, дар ҳолати бехудӣ афтодам

¹⁸And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

¹⁸«Ва Ӯро дидам, ки мегуфт: "Шитоб намо ва аз Ерусалим зудтар равона шав, чунки шаҳодати туро дар ҳаққи Ман қабул нахоҳанд кард".

¹⁹And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

¹⁹«Гуфтам: "Худовандо! Онҳо медонанд, ки ман мӯъминони Туро дар зиндон меандоҳтам ва дар куништҳо шаллоқ мезадам,

²⁰And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

²⁰"Ва ҳангоме ки хуни шоҳиди Ту Истефанусро мерехтанд, ман дар он ҷо истода, қатли ӯро таҳсин менамудам ва либосҳои қотилони ӯро посбонӣ мекардам".

²¹And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

²¹«Аммо Ӯ ба ман гуфт: "Равона шав, зеро ки Ман туро ба ҷойҳои дур сӯи ғайрияҳудиён хоҳам фиристод"».

²²And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

²²То ҳамин суханаш ба ӯ гӯш доданд; сонӣ фарьёд заца, гуфтанд: «Чунин шахсро аз рӯи замин маҳв кунед! Зеро ки набояд ӯ зинда бимонад».

²³And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

²³Дар ҳамон вақте ки онҳо дод мезаданд, ҷомаҳои худро мепартофтанд ва чангу ғубор ба ҳаво мебардоштанд,

²⁴The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

²⁴Мириҳазор амр фармуд, ки ӯро ба қальа дароварда, тозиёна зананд, то фаҳманд, ки аз чӣ сабаб бар ӯ ин қадар фарьед мезананд.

²⁵And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

²⁵Вақте ки ӯро бо тасмаҳомебастанд,ба мирисаде ки наздаш истода буд, гуфт: «Оё бар шумо ҷоиз аст, ки табааи Румро, бе он ки маҳкум шуда бошад, тозиёна занед?»

²⁶When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.

²⁶Чун мирисад инро шунид, назди мириҳазор рафта, хабар дод ва гуфт: «Оё медонӣ, чӣ мекунӣ? Ин шахс табааи Рум аст».

²⁷Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

²⁷Мириҳазор назди ӯ омада, пурсид: «Ба ман бигӯй, ки оё ту табааи Рум ҳастй?» гуфт: «Оре».

²⁸And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

²⁸Мириҳазор гуфт: «Ман ин табаиятро ба бадали маблағи калон ба даст овардаам». Павлус гуфт: «Аммо ман бо он ба дуньё омадаам».

²⁹Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

²⁹Дарҳол онҳое ки ӯро шиканҷа карданӣ буданд, аз ӯ даст кашиданд; мириҳазор низ, румӣ будани ӯро фаҳмида, ҳаросон шуд, ки ӯро занҷир зада буд.

³⁰On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

³⁰Рӯзи дигар, бо мақсади донистани он ки барои чӣ яхудиён ӯро айбдор мекунанд, ӯро аз завлона озод кард ва амр фармуд, ки саркоҳинон ва тамоми шӯрои пирон ҷамъ шаванд, ва Павлусро бароварда, назди онҳо ба по хезонд.
