¹In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

¹ДАР он айём Яҳьёи Таъмиддиҳанда зоҳир шуда, дар биебони Яҳудо мавъиза мекард,

²And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

²Ва мегуфт: «Тавба кунед, зеро ки Малакути Осмон наздик аст».

³For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

³Зеро ӯ ҳамон аст, ки Ишаъёи набӣ аз ӯ хабар дода, гуфтааст: "Овози нидокунандае дар биёбон: роҳи Худовандро таиёр кунед, тариқи Ӯро рост кунед".

⁴And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

⁴Ва ин Яҳьё либосе аз пашми шутур дар бар ва камарбанде аз чарм дар камар дошт; ва хӯроки ӯ малах ва асали ёбоӣ буд.

⁵Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

⁵Он вакт аҳли Ерусалим ва тамоми Яҳудо ва музофоти Ӯрдун назди ӯ берун меомаданд,

⁶And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶Ва ба гуноҳҳои худ иқрор шуда, дар рӯди Ӯрдун таъмид меёфтанд.

⁷But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁷Чун бисьёре аз фарисиён ва саддуқиёнро дид, ки назди ӯ барои таъмид меоянд, ба онҳо гуфт: «Эй афъизодагон! Кй ба шумо талқин кард, ки аз ғазаби оянда бигрезед?

⁸Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

⁸«Акнун самаре оваред, ки сазовори тавба бошад,

⁹And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

⁹«Ва дар дили худ нагӯед, ки "падари мо Иброҳим аст"; зеро ба шумо мегӯям, ки Худо қодир аст аз ин сангҳо барои Иброҳим фарзандон ба вуҷуд оварад;

¹⁰And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

¹⁰«Ва алҳол теша бар решаи дарахтонгузошташудааст: ҳар дараҳте ки меваи нағз надиҳад, бурида ва дар оташ андоҳта хоҳад шуд;

¹¹I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

¹¹«Ман шуморо бо об барои тавба таъмид медиҳам, лекин Он ки пас аз ман меояд, аз ман тавонотар аст; ман сазовори он нестам, ки пойафзоли Ӯро бардорам; Ӯ шуморо бо Рӯҳулкудс ва оташ таъмид ҳоҳад дрд;

¹²Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

¹²«Ӯ ғалбери Худро дар даст дорад, ва Ӯ хирмангоҳи Худро тоза карда, гандуми Худро дар анбор гирд хоҳад овард, лекин коҳро дар оташи ҳомӯпшашаванда ҳоҳад сӯзонд».

¹³Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

¹³Он гоҳ Исо аз "Ҷалил ба Ӯрдун назди Яҳьё омад, то ки аз вай таъмид ёбад.

¹⁴But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

¹⁴Леюда Яҳьё Ӯро боздошта, гуфт: «Маро лозим аст, ки аз Ту таъмид ёбам, ва Ту назди ман меоӣ?»

¹⁵And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

¹⁵Исо дар ҷавоби вай гуфт: «Алҳол бигзор; зеро ки моро лозим аст ҳар навъ адолатро ин тавр ба ҷо оварем». Пас Яҳьё Ӯро вогузошт.

¹⁶And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

¹⁶Ва Исо таъмид ёфта, дарҳол аз об баромад, ва инак, осмон ба рӯи Ӯ кушода шуд, ва Рӯҳи Худоро дид, ки чун кабӯтаре нозил шуда, бар Ӯ қарор мегирад.

¹⁷And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

¹⁷Ва икак, овозе аз осмон расид, ки мегуфт: «Ин аст Писари Маҳбуби Ман, ки ҳусни таваҷҷӯҳи Ман бар Ӯст»."
