¹Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

¹ท่านที่รักทั้งหลาย อย่าเชื่อวิญญาณเสียทุกๆวิญญาณ แต่จงพิสูจน์วิญญาณนั้นๆว่ามาจากพระเจ้าหรือไม่ เพราะว่ามีผู้พยากรณ์เท็จเป็นอันมากออกเที่ยวไปในโลก

²Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

²โดยข้อนี้ท่านทั้งหลายก็จะรู้จักพระวิญญาณของพระเจ้า คือวิญญาณทั้งปวงที่ยอมรับว่าพระเยซูคริสต์ได้เสด็จมาเป็นมนุษย์ วิญญาณนั้นก็มาจากพระเจ้า

³And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

³และวิญญาณทั้งปวงที่ไม่ยอมรับว่าพระเยซูคริสต์ได้เสด็จมาเป็นมนุษย์ วิญญาณนั้นก็ไม่ได้มาจากพระเจ้า วิญญาณนั้นแหละเป็นปฏิปักษ์ของพระคริสต์ ซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายได้ยินว่าจะมา และบัดนี้ก็อยู่ในโลกแล้ว

⁴Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

⁴ลูกเล็กๆทั้งหลายเอ๋ย ท่านเป็นฝ่ายพระเจ้า และได้ชนะเขาเหล่านั้น เพราะว่าพระองค์ผู้ทรงอยู่ในท่านทั้งหลายเป็นใหญ่กว่าผู้นั้นที่อยู่ในโลก

⁵They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

⁵เขาเหล่านั้นเป็นฝ่ายโลก เหตุฉะนั้นเขาจึงพูดตามโลก และโลกก็ฟังเขา

⁶We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

⁶เราทั้งหลายเป็นฝ่ายพระเจ้า ผู้ที่รู้จักกับพระเจ้าก็ฟังเรา และผู้ที่ไม่ใช่ฝ่ายพระเจ้าก็ไม่ฟังเรา ดังนี้แหละเราทั้งหลายจึงรู้จักวิญญาณของความจริงและวิญญาณของความเท็จ

⁷Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

⁷ท่านที่รักทั้งหลาย ขอให้เรารักซึ่งกันและกัน เพราะว่าความรักมาจากพระเจ้า และทุกคนที่รักก็บังเกิดมาจากพระเจ้า และรู้จักพระเจ้า

⁸He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

⁸ผู้ที่ไม่รักก็ไม่รู้จักพระเจ้า เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงเป็นความรัก

⁹In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

⁹โดยข้อนี้ความรักของพระเจ้าก็เป็นที่ประจักษ์แก่เราทั้งหลาย เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงใช้พระบุตรองค์เดียวของพระองค์เข้ามาในโลก เพื่อเราทั้งหลายจะได้ดำรงชีวิตโดยพระบุตรนั้น

¹⁰Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

¹⁰ในข้อนี้แหละเป็นความรัก มิใช่ที่เรารักพระเจ้า แต่ที่พระองค์ทรงรักเรา และทรงใช้พระบุตรของพระองค์มาทรงเป็นผู้ลบล้างพระอาชญาที่ตกกับเราทั้งหลาย เพราะบาปของเรา

¹¹Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

¹¹ท่านที่รักทั้งหลาย ถ้าพระเจ้าทรงรักเราทั้งหลายเช่นนั้น เราก็ควรจะรักซึ่งกันและกันด้วย

¹²No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

¹²ไม่มีผู้ใดเคยเห็นพระเจ้าไม่ว่าเวลาใด ถ้าเราทั้งหลายรักซึ่งกันและกัน พระเจ้าก็ทรงสถิตอยู่ในเราทั้งหลาย และความรักของพระองค์ก็สมบูรณ์อยู่ในเรา

¹³Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

¹³ดังนี้แหละเราทั้งหลายจึงรู้ว่า เราอยู่ในพระองค์และพระองค์ทรงสถิตอยู่ในเรา เพราะพระองค์ได้ทรงโปรดประทานพระวิญญาณของพระองค์แก่เรา

¹⁴And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

¹⁴และเราทั้งหลายได้เห็นและเป็นพยานว่า พระบิดาได้ทรงใช้พระบุตรมาเพื่อเป็นผู้ช่วยมนุษย์โลกให้รอด

¹⁵Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

¹⁵ผู้ใดยอมรับว่า พระเยซูทรงเป็นพระบุตรของพระเจ้า พระเจ้าก็จะทรงสถิตอยู่ในคนนั้น และคนนั้นอยู่ในพระเจ้า

¹⁶And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

¹⁶เราทั้งหลายจึงรู้และเชื่อในความรักที่พระเจ้าทรงมีต่อเรา พระเจ้าทรงเป็นความรัก และผู้ใดที่อยู่ในความรักก็อยู่ในพระเจ้า และพระเจ้าก็ทรงสถิตอยู่ในผู้นั้น

¹⁷Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

¹⁷ในข้อนี้แหละความรักของเราจึงสมบูรณ์ เพื่อเราทั้งหลายจะได้มีความกล้าในวันพิพากษา เพราะว่าพระองค์ทรงเป็นอย่างไร เราทั้งหลายในโลกนี้ก็เป็นอย่างนั้น

¹⁸There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

¹⁸ในความรักนั้นไม่มีความกลัว แต่ความรักที่สมบูรณ์นั้นก็ได้ขจัดความกลัวเสีย ด้วยว่าความกลัวเป็นที่ให้ใจเป็นทุกข์ และผู้ที่มีความกลัวก็ยังไม่มีความรักที่สมบูรณ์

¹⁹We love him, because he first loved us.

¹⁹เราทั้งหลายรักพระองค์ ก็เพราะพระองค์ทรงรักเราก่อน

²⁰If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

²⁰ถ้าผู้ใดว่า "ข้าพเจ้ารักพระเจ้า" และยังเกลียดชังพี่น้องของตน ผู้นั้นก็เป็นคนพูดมุสา เพราะว่าผู้ที่ไม่รักพี่น้องของตนที่แลเห็นแล้ว เขาจะรักพระเจ้าที่ไม่เคยเห็นอย่างไรได้

²¹And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

²¹พระบัญญัตินี้เราทั้งหลายก็ได้มาจากพระองค์ คือว่าให้คนที่รักพระเจ้านั้นรักพี่น้องของตนด้วย
