1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
1ข้าพเจ้าผู้ปกครอง เรียน มายังท่านสุภาพสตรีที่ทรงเลือกไว้ และบรรดาบุตรของเธอ ผู้ซึ่งข้าพเจ้ารักเนื่องในความจริง และมิใช่แต่ข้าพเจ้าเท่านั้น แต่คนทั้งปวงที่ได้รู้จักความจริงก็รักด้วย
2For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
2เพราะเห็นแก่ความจริงที่อยู่ในเราทั้งหลาย และซึ่งจะดำรงอยู่กับเราเป็นนิตย์
3Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
3พระกรุณาธิคุณ พระเมตตาคุณ และสันติสุขจากพระเจ้าพระบิดา และจากพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้าพระบุตรแห่งพระบิดา สถิตอยู่กับท่านทั้งหลายในความจริงและในความรัก
4I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
4ข้าพเจ้ามีความยินดีเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่เห็นบุตรของท่านดำเนินตามความจริง เหมือนเราได้รับพระบัญญัติจากพระบิดา
5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
5และท่านสุภาพสตรี บัดนี้ข้าพเจ้าขอวิงวอนท่าน มิใช่เสมือนหนึ่งว่าข้าพเจ้าเขียนพระบัญญัติใหม่ถึงท่าน แต่เป็นพระบัญญัติที่เราได้มีมาแล้วตั้งแต่เริ่มแรก นั่นก็คือให้เราทั้งหลายรักซึ่งกันและกัน
6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
6และความรักนั้นก็คือ การที่เราทั้งหลายประพฤติตามพระบัญญัติของพระองค์ นี่เป็นพระบัญญัตินั้นซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายได้ยินได้ฟังมาตั้งแต่เริ่มแรก เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะประพฤติตาม
7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
7เพราะว่ามีผู้ล่อลวงเป็นอันมากออกเที่ยวไปในโลก คือคนที่ไม่รับว่าพระเยซูคริสต์ได้เสด็จมาเป็นมนุษย์ คนนั้นแหละเป็นผู้ล่อลวงและเป็นปฏิปักษ์กับพระคริสต์
8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
8ท่านทั้งหลายจงระวังตัวให้ดี เพื่อเราจะได้ไม่สูญเสียสิ่งที่เราได้กระทำมาแล้ว แต่ว่าเราจะได้รับบำเหน็จเต็มที่
9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
9ผู้ใดละเมิดและไม่อยู่ในพระโอวาทของพระคริสต์ ผู้นั้นก็ไม่มีพระเจ้า ผู้ใดอยู่ในพระโอวาทของพระคริสต์ ผู้นั้นก็มีทั้งพระบิดาและพระบุตร
10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
10ถ้าผู้ใดมาหาท่านและไม่นำพระโอวาทนี้มาด้วย อย่ารับเขาไว้ในเรือน และอย่าอวยพรเขาเลย
11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
11เพราะว่าผู้ที่อวยพรเขา ก็เข้าส่วนในการกระทำชั่วของเขานั้น
12Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
12ข้าพเจ้ายังมีข้อความอีกหลายข้อที่จะเขียนถึงท่าน แต่ก็ไม่อยากใช้กระดาษและน้ำหมึกเขียน ข้าพเจ้าหวังว่าจะมาหาท่าน และสนทนากับท่านเฉพาะหน้า เพื่อความปีติยินดีของเราจะได้เต็มเปี่ยม
