1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
1เหตุฉะนั้นบุตรของข้าพเจ้าเอ๋ย จงเข้มแข็งขึ้นในพระคุณซึ่งมีอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์
2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
2จงมอบคำสอนเหล่านั้นซึ่งท่านได้ยินจากข้าพเจ้าต่อหน้าพยานหลายคนไว้กับคนที่สัตย์ซื่อ ที่สามารถสอนคนอื่นได้ด้วย
3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
3ฉะนั้นท่านจงทนการยากลำบากดุจทหารที่ดีของพระเยซูคริสต์
4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
4ไม่มีทหารคนใด เมื่อเข้าประจำการแล้ว จะไปห่วงใยกับการทำมาหากินของเขาในชีวิตนี้ เพื่อผู้ที่ได้เลือกเขาให้เป็นทหารนั้นจะได้ชอบใจ
5And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
5และถ้าผู้ใดจะเข้าแข่งขันกัน เขาก็คงมิได้สวมมงกุฎ เว้นเสียแต่เขาได้ปฏิบัติตามกฎ
6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
6กสิกรผู้ตรากตรำทำงานก็ต้องเป็นคนแรกที่ได้รับผล
7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
7จงใคร่ครวญถึงสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าได้พูดเถิด ด้วยองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงประทานความเข้าใจให้แก่ท่านในทุกสิ่ง
8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
8จงระลึกถึงพระเยซูคริสต์ ผู้ทรงสืบเชื้อสายจากดาวิด ได้ทรงถูกชุบให้เป็นขึ้นมาจากความตาย ตามข่าวประเสริฐที่ข้าพเจ้าประกาศนั้น
9Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
9และเพราะเหตุข่าวประเสริฐนั้น ข้าพเจ้าจึงทนทุกข์ ถูกล่ามโซ่ดังผู้ร้าย แต่พระวจนะของพระเจ้านั้นไม่มีผู้ใดเอาโซ่ล่ามไว้ได้
10Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
10เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าจึงยอมทนทุกอย่าง เพราะเห็นแก่ผู้ที่ทรงเลือกสรรไว้นั้น เพื่อเขาจะได้รับความรอดด้วย ซึ่งมีอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์ พร้อมทั้งสง่าราศีนิรันดร์
11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
11คำนี้เป็นคำสัตย์จริง คือถ้าเราตายกับพระองค์ เราก็จะมีชีวิตอยู่กับพระองค์เช่นกัน
12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
12ถ้าเราทนความทุกข์ทรมาน เราก็จะได้ครองร่วมกับพระองค์ด้วย ถ้าเราปฏิเสธพระองค์ พระองค์ก็จะปฏิเสธเราเช่นเดียวกัน
13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
13ถ้าเราไม่เชื่อ พระองค์ก็ยังทรงไว้ซึ่งความสัตย์ซื่อ เพราะพระองค์จะปฏิเสธพระองค์เองไม่ได้
14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
14จงเตือนเขาทั้งหลายให้ระลึกถึงข้อความเหล่านี้ และกำชับเขาต่อพระพักตร์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ไม่ให้เขาโต้เถียงกันในเรื่องถ้อยคำ ซึ่งไม่เป็นประโยชน์เลย แต่กลับเป็นเหตุให้คนที่ฟังเขวไป
15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
15จงอุตส่าห์สำแดงตนเองให้เป็นที่ชอบพระทัยพระเจ้า เป็นคนงานที่ไม่ต้องอาย ยึดมั่นพระวจนะแห่งความจริงอย่างถูกต้อง
16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
16แต่จงหลีกไปเสียจากถ้อยคำหมิ่นประมาทและไร้ประโยชน์ เพราะคำอย่างนั้นย่อมก่อให้เกิดอธรรมมากยิ่งขึ้น
17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
17และคำพูดของเขาจะแพร่ออกไปเหมือนแผลเนื้อร้าย ในพวกนั้นมีฮีเมเนอัสกับฟิเลทัสเป็นต้น
18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
18คนทั้งสองนั้นได้หลงจากความจริง โดยพูดว่าการฟื้นจากความตายนั้นได้ผ่านพ้นไปแล้ว และได้ทำลายความเชื่อของบางคนเสีย
19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
19แต่ว่ารากฐานแห่งพระเจ้านั้นอยู่อย่างมั่นคง โดยมีตราประทับไว้ว่า `องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงรู้จักคนเหล่านั้นที่เป็นของพระองค์' และ `ให้ทุกคนซึ่งออกพระนามของพระคริสต์ละทิ้งความชั่วช้าเสีย'
20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
20แต่ว่าในบ้านใหญ่หลังหนึ่งๆมิได้มีแต่ภาชนะทองและเงินเท่านั้น แต่มีภาชนะไม้และภาชนะดินด้วย บ้างก็มีเกียรติ และบ้างก็ไร้เกียรติ
21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
21เหตุฉะนั้นถ้าผู้ใดชำระตัวให้พ้นจากสิ่งเหล่านี้ เขาก็จะเป็นภาชนะที่มีเกียรติ ซึ่งคัดไว้แล้ว เหมาะที่นายจะใช้ให้เป็นประโยชน์ และถูกเตรียมไว้พร้อมสำหรับการดีทุกอย่าง
22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
22จงหลีกหนีเสียจากราคะตัณหาของคนหนุ่ม แต่จงใฝ่ในความชอบธรรม ในความเชื่อ ความรัก และสันติสุข ร่วมกับผู้ที่ออกพระนามขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าด้วยใจบริสุทธิ์
23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
23จงหลีกเลี่ยงจากปัญหาอันโง่เขลาและไม่เป็นสาระ ด้วยรู้แล้วว่าปัญหาเหล่านั้นก่อให้เกิดการทะเลาะวิวาทกัน
24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
24ฝ่ายผู้รับใช้ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าต้องไม่เป็นคนที่ชอบการทะเลาะวิวาท แต่ต้องมีใจสุภาพต่อคนทั้งปวง เหมาะที่จะเป็นครูและมีความอดทน
25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
25ด้วยความอ่อนสุภาพจงสอนคนเหล่านั้นที่ต่อสู้กับตัวเอง ถ้าพระเจ้าอาจจะทรงโปรดให้เขากลับใจเสียใหม่มารับความจริง
26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
26และเขาอาจหลุดพ้นบ่วงของพญามาร ผู้ซึ่งดักจับเขาไว้ให้ทำตามความประสงค์ของมัน
