1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
1เหตุฉะนั้นให้เราละประถมโอวาทของพระคริสต์ไว้ และให้เราก้าวหน้าไปถึงความบริบูรณ์ อย่าเอาสิ่งเหล่านี้มาวางเป็นรากอีกเลย คือการกลับใจเสียใหม่จากการประพฤติที่ตายแล้ว และความเชื่อในพระเจ้า
2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
2และคำสอนว่าด้วยพิธีบัพติศมา และการวางมือ และการเป็นขึ้นมาจากตาย และการพิพากษาลงโทษเป็นนิตย์นั้น
3And this will we do, if God permit.
3ถ้าพระเจ้าจะทรงโปรดอนุญาต เราก็จะกระทำอย่างนี้ได้
4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
4เพราะว่าคนเหล่านั้นที่ได้รับความสว่างมาครั้งหนึ่งแล้ว และได้รู้รสของประทานจากสวรรค์ ได้มีส่วนในพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์
5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
5และได้ชิมความดีงามแห่งพระวจนะของพระเจ้า และฤทธิ์เดชแห่งยุคที่จะมานั้น
6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
6ถ้าเขาเหล่านั้นจะหลงอยู่อย่างนี้ ก็เหลือวิสัยที่จะให้เขากลับใจเสียใหม่อีกได้ เพราะตัวเขาเองได้ตรึงพระบุตรของพระเจ้าเสียอีกแล้ว และได้ทำให้พระองค์ขายหน้าต่อธารกำนัล
7For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
7ด้วยว่าพื้นแผ่นดินที่ได้ดูดดื่มน้ำฝนที่ตกลงมาเนืองๆและงอกขึ้นมาเป็นต้นผักให้ประโยชน์แก่คนทั้งหลายที่ได้พรวนดินด้วยนั้น ก็รับพระพรมาจากพระเจ้า
8But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
8แต่ดินที่งอกหนามใหญ่และหนามย่อยก็ถูกทอดทิ้ง และเกือบจะถึงที่สาปแช่งแล้ว ซึ่งในที่สุดก็จะถูกเผาไฟเสีย
9But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
9แต่ดูก่อนพวกที่รัก แม้เราพูดอย่างนั้น เราก็เชื่อแน่ว่าท่านทั้งหลายคงจะได้สิ่งที่ดีกว่านั้น และสิ่งซึ่งเกี่ยวกับความรอด
10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
10เพราะว่าพระเจ้าไม่ทรงอธรรมที่จะทรงลืมการงานและการทำงานหนักด้วยความรักซึ่งท่านได้แสดงต่อพระนามของพระองค์ คือการรับใช้วิสุทธิชนนั้นและยังรับใช้อยู่
11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
11และเราปรารถนาให้ท่านทั้งหลายทุกคนแสดงความตั้งใจจริงให้ถึงความมั่นใจอย่างเต็มที่แห่งความหวังนั้นจนถึงที่สุดปลาย
12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
12เพื่อท่านจะไม่เป็นคนเฉื่อยช้า แต่ให้ตามเยี่ยงอย่างแห่งคนเหล่านั้นที่อาศัยความเชื่อและความเพียร จึงได้รับตามพระสัญญาเป็นมรดก
13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
13เพราะว่าเมื่อพระเจ้าได้ทรงทำพระสัญญาไว้กับอับราฮัมนั้น โดยเหตุที่ไม่มีใครเป็นใหญ่กว่าพระองค์ที่พระองค์จะทรงให้คำปฏิญาณได้นั้น พระองค์ก็ได้ทรงให้คำปฏิญาณแก่พระองค์เอง
14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
14คือตรัสว่า `เราจะอวยพรท่านแน่ เราจะทวีเชื้อสายของท่านให้มากขึ้น'
15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
15เช่นนั้นแหละ เมื่ออับราฮัมได้ทนคอยด้วยความเพียรแล้ว ท่านก็ได้รับตามพระสัญญานั้น
16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
16ส่วนมนุษย์นั้นต้องปฏิญาณต่อหน้าผู้ที่เป็นใหญ่กว่าตน และเมื่อเกิดข้อทุ่มเถียงอะไรกันขึ้น ก็ต้องถือคำปฏิญาณนั้นเป็นคำยืนยันขั้นเด็ดขาด
17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
17ฝ่ายพระเจ้าเมื่อพระองค์ทรงหมายพระทัยจะสำแดงให้ผู้ที่รับคำทรงสัญญานั้นเป็นมรดกรู้ให้แน่ใจยิ่งขึ้นว่า พระดำริของพระองค์จะแปรปรวนไม่ได้ พระองค์จึงได้ทรงให้คำปฏิญาณไว้ด้วย
18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
18เพื่อด้วยสองประการนั้นที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไม่ได้ ในที่ซึ่งพระองค์จะตรัสมุสาไม่ได้นั้น เราซึ่งได้หนีมาหาที่ลี้ภัยนั้นจึงจะได้รับการหนุนน้ำใจอย่างจริงจัง ที่จะฉวยเอาความหวังซึ่งมีอยู่ตรงหน้าเรา
19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
19ความหวังนั้นเรายึดไว้ต่างสมอของจิตวิญญาณ เป็นความหวังทั้งแน่และมั่นคง และได้ทอดไว้ภายในม่าน
20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
20ที่ผู้นำหน้าได้เสด็จเข้าไปเผื่อเราแล้ว คือพระเยซูผู้ทรงได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นมหาปุโรหิตเป็นนิตย์ตามอย่างเมลคีเซเดค
