1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
1ยากอบ ผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้าและของพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้า คำนับชนสิบสองตระกูลที่กระจัดกระจายอยู่นั้น
2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
2พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า เมื่อท่านทั้งหลายตกอยู่ในการทดลองต่างๆก็จงถือว่าเป็นเรื่องน่ายินดี
3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
3เพราะท่านทั้งหลายรู้ว่า การทดลองความเชื่อของท่านนั้น ทำให้เกิดความเพียร
4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
4และจงให้ความเพียรนั้นกระทำการจนสำเร็จ เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้เป็นผู้สำเร็จครบถ้วนไม่ขาดสิ่งใดเลย
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
5ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านขาดสติปัญญา ก็ให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอจากพระเจ้า ผู้ทรงโปรดประทานให้แก่คนทั้งปวงด้วยเต็มพระทัยและมิได้ทรงติว่า แล้วก็จะได้ทรงประทานให้แก่ผู้นั้น
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
6แต่จงให้ผู้นั้นทูลขอด้วยความเชื่อ อย่าสงสัยเลย เพราะว่าผู้ที่สงสัยเป็นเหมือนคลื่นในทะเลซึ่งถูกลมพัดซัดไปมา
7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
7ผู้นั้นจงอย่าคิดว่าจะได้รับสิ่งใดจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเลย
8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
8คนสองใจเป็นคนไม่มั่นคงในบรรดาทางทั้งหลายที่ตนประพฤตินั้น
9Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
9ให้พี่น้องที่ต่ำต้อยชื่นชมยินดีในการที่ทรงเชิดชูเขา
10But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
10และคนมั่งมีก็จงชื่นชมยินดีเมื่อตกต่ำลง เพราะว่าเขาจะต้องล่วงลับไปดุจดอกหญ้า
11For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
11เพราะเมื่อตะวันขึ้น ความร้อนอันแรงกล้าก็กระทำให้หญ้าเหี่ยวแห้งไป และดอกหญ้าก็ร่วงลง และความงามของมันสูญสิ้นไป คนมั่งมีจะเสื่อมสูญไปตามทางทั้งหลายของเขาเช่นนั้นด้วย
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
12ความสุขย่อมมีแก่คนนั้นที่สู้ทนการทดลอง เพราะเมื่อปรากฏว่าผู้นั้นทนได้แล้ว เขาจะได้รับมงกุฎแห่งชีวิต ซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงสัญญาไว้แก่คนทั้งหลายที่รักพระองค์
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
13เมื่อผู้ใดถูกล่อลวงให้หลง อย่าให้ผู้นั้นพูดว่า "พระเจ้าทรงล่อลวงข้าพเจ้าให้หลง" เพราะว่าความชั่วจะมาล่อลวงพระเจ้าให้หลงไม่ได้ และพระองค์เองก็ไม่ทรงล่อลวงผู้ใดให้หลงเลย
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
14แต่ว่าทุกคนก็ถูกล่อลวง เมื่อตัณหาของตัวชักนำตนให้กระทำผิดแล้วตัวก็กระทำตาม
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
15ครั้นตัณหาเกิดขึ้นแล้ว ก็ทำให้เกิดบาป และเมื่อบาปเจริญเต็มที่แล้ว ก็นำไปสู่ความตาย
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
16พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า อย่าหลงผิดไปเลย
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
17ของประทานอันดีทุกอย่าง และของประทานอันเลิศทุกอย่างย่อมมาจากเบื้องบน และส่งลงมาจากพระบิดาแห่งบรรดาดวงสว่าง ในพระบิดาไม่มีการแปรปรวน หรือไม่มีเงาอันเนื่องจากการเปลี่ยนแปลง
18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
18โดยทรงตั้งพระทัยแล้ว พระองค์ก็ได้ทรงให้เราทั้งหลายบังเกิดโดยพระวจนะแห่งความจริง เพื่อเราทั้งหลายจะได้เป็นอย่างผลแรกแห่งสรรพสิ่งซึ่งพระองค์ทรงสร้างนั้น
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
19ดังนั้น พี่น้องที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงให้ทุกคนไวในการฟัง ช้าในการพูด ช้าในการโกรธ
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
20เพราะว่าความโกรธของมนุษย์ไม่ได้กระทำให้เกิดความชอบธรรมแห่งพระเจ้า
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
21เหตุฉะนั้น จงถอดทิ้งการโสโครกทุกอย่าง และการชั่วร้ายอันดกดื่น และจงน้อมใจรับพระวจนะที่ทรงปลูกฝังไว้แล้วนั้น ซึ่งสามารถช่วยจิตวิญญาณของท่านทั้งหลายให้รอดได้
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
22แต่ท่านทั้งหลายจงเป็นคนที่ประพฤติตามพระวจนะนั้น ไม่ใช่เป็นแต่เพียงผู้ฟังเท่านั้น ซึ่งเป็นการล่อลวงตนเอง
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
23เพราะว่าถ้าผู้ใดฟังพระวจนะ และไม่ได้ประพฤติตาม ผู้นั้นก็เป็นเหมือนคนที่ดูหน้าของตัวในกระจกเงา
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
24ด้วยว่าคนนั้นแลดูตัวเองแล้วไปเสีย และประเดี๋ยวก็ลืมว่าตัวเป็นอย่างไร
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
25ฝ่ายผู้ใดที่พิจารณาดูในพระราชบัญญัติแห่งเสรีภาพอันดีเลิศ และจะตั้งอยู่ในพระราชบัญญัตินั้น ผู้นั้นไม่ได้เป็นผู้ฟังแล้วหลงลืม แต่เป็นคนประพฤติตาม คนนั้นจะได้ความสุขในการของตน
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
26ถ้าผู้ใดในพวกท่านดูเหมือนว่าเกรงกลัวพระเจ้า และมิได้เหนี่ยวรั้งลิ้นของตนไว้ แต่หลอกลวงใจของตัว การนมัสการของผู้นั้นก็ไร้ประโยชน์
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
27การนมัสการที่บริสุทธิ์ไร้มลทินต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้าและพระบิดานั้น คือการเยี่ยมเยียนเด็กกำพร้าพ่อและหญิงม่ายที่มีความทุกข์ร้อน และการรักษาตัวให้พ้นจากราคีของโลก
