1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
1เปาโล ผู้รับใช้ของพระเจ้า และอัครสาวกของพระเยซูคริสต์ เนื่องด้วยความเชื่อของผู้ที่พระเจ้าได้ทรงเลือกสรรไว้ และให้รู้จักความจริงตามทางของพระเจ้า
2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
2ด้วยหวังว่าจะได้ชีวิตนิรันดร์ ซึ่งพระเจ้าผู้ไม่สามารถตรัสมุสา ได้ทรงสัญญาไว้ตั้งแต่ก่อนสร้างโลก
3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
3แต่ในเวลาที่พระเจ้าทรงกำหนดไว้ ก็ได้ทรงโปรดให้พระวจนะของพระองค์ปรากฏด้วยการเทศนา ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้รับมอบไว้ ตามพระบัญญัติของพระเจ้าผู้ทรงช่วยเราทั้งหลายให้รอด
4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
4ถึง ทิตัส ผู้เป็นบุตรแท้ของข้าพเจ้าในความเชื่อเดียวกัน ขอพระคุณ พระเมตตา และสันติสุขจากพระเจ้าพระบิดา และพระเยซูคริสต์เจ้าพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา จงดำรงอยู่กับท่านเถิด
5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
5เพราะเหตุนี้เองข้าพเจ้าจึงละท่านไว้ที่เกาะครีต ก็เพื่อท่านจะได้แก้ไขสิ่งที่ยังบกพร่องให้เรียบร้อย และตั้งผู้ปกครองไว้ทุกเมืองตามที่ข้าพเจ้าได้กำชับท่านแล้ว
6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
6คือถ้ามีใครไม่มีข้อตำหนิ เป็นสามีของหญิงคนเดียว มีบุตรสัตย์ซื่อ และไม่มีใครกล่าวหาว่าบุตรนั้นเป็นนักเลงหรือเป็นคนดื้อกระด้าง
7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
7เพราะว่าเจ้าอธิการนั้น ในฐานะที่เป็นผู้รับมอบฉันทะจากพระเจ้า ต้องเป็นคนที่ไม่มีข้อตำหนิ ไม่เป็นคนเย่อหยิ่ง ไม่เป็นคนเลือดร้อน ไม่เป็นนักเลงสุรา ไม่เป็นนักเลงหัวไม้ และไม่เป็นคนโลภมักได้
8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
8แต่เป็นคนมีอัชฌาสัยรับแขกดี เป็นผู้รักคนดี เป็นคนมีสติสัมปชัญญะ เป็นคนชอบธรรม เป็นคนบริสุทธิ์ รู้จักบังคับใจตนเอง
9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
9และเป็นคนยึดมั่นในหลักคำสอนอันสัตย์ซื่อตามที่ได้เรียนมาแล้ว เพื่อเขาจะสามารถเตือนสติด้วยคำสอนอันถูกต้อง และชี้แจงแก่ผู้ที่คัดค้านคำสอนนั้น
10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
10เพราะว่ามีคนเป็นอันมากที่ดื้อกระด้าง พูดมากไม่เป็นสาระ และหลอกลวง โดยเฉพาะบรรดาผู้ที่เข้าสุหนัต
11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
11จำเป็นต้องให้เขาสงบปากเสีย ด้วยเขาพลิกบ้านคว่ำทั้งครัวเรือนให้เสียไป โดยสอนสิ่งที่ไม่ควรจะสอนเลย เพราะเห็นแก่เล็กแก่น้อย
12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
12ในพวกเขาเองมีคนหนึ่งเป็นผู้พยากรณ์ได้กล่าวว่า "ชาวครีตเป็นคนพูดปดเสมอ เป็นเหมือนอย่างสัตว์ร้าย เป็นคนเกียจคร้านกินเติบ"
13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
13คำที่เขาอ้างนี้เป็นความจริง เหตุฉะนั้นท่านจงต่อว่าเขาให้แรงๆเพื่อเขาจะได้มีความเชื่ออันถูกต้อง
14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
14และจะมิได้สนใจในนิยายของพวกยิว และในบทบัญญัติของมนุษย์ซึ่งให้หันไปเสียจากความจริง
15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
15สำหรับคนบริสุทธิ์นั้น ทุกสิ่งก็บริสุทธิ์ แต่สำหรับคนชั่วช้า และคนที่ไม่เชื่อนั้น ก็ไม่มีสิ่งใดบริสุทธิ์เลย แต่จิตใจและจิตสำนึกผิดชอบของเขาก็ชั่วมลทินไป
16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
16เขาออกปากยอมรับว่าเขารู้จักพระเจ้า แต่ว่าในการกระทำของเขา เขาก็ปฏิเสธพระองค์ โดยการประพฤติตัวน่ารังเกียจ และไม่เชื่อฟัง และไม่เหมาะที่จะกระทำการดีใดๆเลย
