¹And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,

¹Một ngày trong những ngày đó, Ðức Chúa Jêsus đương dạy dỗ dân chúng trong đền thờ và rao truyền Tin Lành, thì các thầy tế lễ cả, các thầy thông giáo, và các trưởng lão đến thình lình,

²And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

²hỏi Ngài như vầy: Hãy nói cho chúng tôi, bởi quyền phép nào mà thầy làm những điều nầy, hay là ai đã ban cho thầy quyền phép ấy?

³And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:

³Ngài đáp rằng: Ta cũng hỏi các ngươi một câu. Hãy nói cho ta:

⁴The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

⁴Phép báp-tem của Giăng đến bởi trên trời, hay là bởi người ta?

⁵And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

⁵Vả, những người ấy bàn cùng nhau rằng: Nếu chúng ta nói: Bởi trời, thì người sẽ nói với ta rằng: Vậy sao các ngươi không tin lời người?

⁶But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.

⁶Lại nếu chúng ta nói: Bởi người ta, thì các dân sự sẽ ném đá chúng ta; vì họ đã tin chắc Giăng là một đấng tiên tri.

⁷And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.

⁷Vậy nên họ trả lời rằng không biết phép ấy bởi đâu mà đến.

⁸And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

⁸Ðức Chúa Jêsus bèn phán rằng: Ta cũng không nói cho các ngươi bởi quyền phép nào ta làm những điều nầy.

⁹Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

⁹Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng dân chúng lời thí dụ nầy: Người kia trồng một vườn nho, đã cho kẻ trồng nho mướn, rồi bỏ xứ đi lâu ngày.

¹⁰And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.

¹⁰Ðến mùa nho, chủ sai một đầy tớ tới cùng những kẻ trồng nho đặng nhận một phần hoa lợi; song bọn trồng nho đánh đầy tớ, đuổi về tay không.

¹¹And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

¹¹Chủ lại sai một đầy tớ khác nữa; song họ cũng đánh, chưởi, và đuổi về tay không.

¹²And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.

¹²Chủ lại sai đầy tớ thứ ba; song họ cũng đánh cho bị thương và đuổi đi.

¹³Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.

¹³Chủ vườn nho bèn nói rằng: Ta làm thể nào? Ta sẽ sai con trai yêu dấu ta đến; có lẽ chúng nó sẽ kính nể!

¹⁴But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

¹⁴Song khi bọn trồng nho thấy con trai ấy, thì bàn với nhau như vầy: Kìa, ấy là con kế tự; hãy giết nó, hầu cho gia tài nó sẽ về chúng ta.

¹⁵So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

¹⁵Họ bèn liệng con trai ấy ra ngoài vườn nho, và giết đi. Vậy chủ vườn sẽ xử họ làm sao?

¹⁶He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

¹⁶Chủ ấy chắc sẽ đến diệt những kẻ trồng nho nầy, rồi lấy vườn giao cho người khác. Ai nấy nghe những lời đó, thì nói rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời nào nỡ vậy!

¹⁷And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?

¹⁷Ðức Chúa Jêsus bèn ngó họ mà rằng: Vậy thì lời chép: Hòn đá thợ xây nhà bỏ ra, Trở nên đá góc nhà, nghĩa là gì?

¹⁸Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

¹⁸Hễ ai ngã nhằm đá nầy, thì sẽ bị giập nát, còn đá nầy ngã nhằm ai, thì sẽ giập người ấy.

¹⁹And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

¹⁹Chính giờ đó, các thầy tế lễ cả và các thầy thông giáo tìm cách giết Ngài, vì hiểu Ngài phán thí dụ ấy chỉ về mình; nhưng lại sợ dân chúng.

²⁰And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.

²⁰Họ bèn dòm hành Ngài, sai mấy kẻ do thám giả làm người hiền lành, để bắt bẻ Ngài trong lời nói, hầu để nộp Ngài cho kẻ cầm quyền và trong tay quan tổng đốc.

²¹And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:

²¹Những người đó hỏi Ðức Chúa Jêsus câu nầy: Thưa thầy, chúng tôi biết thầy nói và dạy dỗ theo lẽ ngay thẳng, không tây vị ai, lấy lẽ thật mà dạy đạo Ðức Chúa Trời.

²²Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?

²²Chúng tôi có nên nộp thuế cho Sê-sa hay không?

²³But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?

²³Song Ðức Chúa Jêsus biết mưu họ, thì đáp rằng:

²⁴Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.

²⁴Hãy cho ta xem một đơ-ni-ê. Ðơ-ni-ê nầy mang hình và hiệu của ai? Họ thưa rằng: Của Sê-sa.

²⁵And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.

²⁵Ngài bèn phán rằng: Vậy thì của Sê-sa hãy trả lại cho Sê-sa, của Ðức Chúa Trời hãy trả lại cho Ðức Chúa Trời.

²⁶And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

²⁶Trước mặt dân chúng, họ không bắt lỗi lời Ngài phán chi được; và lấy lời đáp của Ngài làm lạ, thì nín lặng.

²⁷Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

²⁷Có mấy người Sa-đu-sê, là người vẫn quyết rằng không có sự sống lại, đến gần Ðức Chúa Jêsus, mà hỏi rằng:

²⁸Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁸Thưa thầy, Môi-se đã truyền lại luật nầy cho chúng tôi: Nếu người kia có anh, cưới vợ rồi chết, không con, thì người phải cưới lấy vợ góa đó để nối dòng cho anh mình.

²⁹There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.

²⁹Vậy, có bảy anh em. Người thứ nhứt cưới vợ, rồi chết, không con.

³⁰And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

³⁰Người thứ hai cũng lấy vợ đó,

³¹And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

³¹rồi đến người thứ ba; hết thảy bảy người cũng vậy, đều chết đi không có con.

³²Last of all the woman died also.

³²Rốt lại, người đờn bà cũng chết.

³³Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

³³Vậy thì đến ngày sống lại, đờn bà đó sẽ là vợ ai? vì bảy người đều đã lấy làm vợ.

³⁴And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

³⁴Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Con cái của đời nầy lấy vợ gả chồng;

³⁵But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

³⁵song những kẻ đã được kể đáng dự phần đời sau và đáng từ kẻ chết sống lại, thì không lấy vợ gả chồng.

³⁶Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

³⁶Bởi họ sẽ không chết được nữa, vì giống như các thiên sứ, và là con của Ðức Chúa Trời, tức là con của sự sống lại.

³⁷Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

³⁷Còn về sự kẻ chết sống lại, Môi-se đã cho biết trong câu chuyện về Bụi gai, khi người gọi Chúa là Ðức Chúa Trời của Áp-ra-ham, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sác và Ðức Chúa Trời của Gia-cốp.

³⁸For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

³⁸Vậy, Ðức Chúa Trời không phải là Ðức Chúa Trời của kẻ chết, nhưng của kẻ sống; vì ai nấy đều sống cho Ngài.

³⁹Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

³⁹Có mấy thầy thông giáo cất tiếng thưa Ngài rằng: Lạy thầy, thầy nói phải lắm.

⁴⁰And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

⁴⁰Họ không dám hỏi Ngài câu nào nữa.

⁴¹And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?

⁴¹Ðức Chúa Jêsus hỏi họ rằng: Làm sao người ta nói được rằng Ðấng Christ là con vua Ða-vít?

⁴²And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

⁴²vì chính vua Ða-vít đã nói trong sách Thi thiên rằng: Chúa phán cùng Chúa tôi rằng: Hãy ngồi bên hữu ta,

⁴³Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

⁴³Cho đến khi ta bắt kẻ nghịch ngươi làm bệ chơn ngươi.

⁴⁴David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

⁴⁴Vậy, vua Ða-vít gọi Ngài bằng Chúa; có lẽ nào Ngài là con vua ấy được?

⁴⁵Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,

⁴⁵Khi dân chúng đương nghe, thì Ngài phán cùng môn đồ rằng:

⁴⁶Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

⁴⁶Hãy giữ mình về các thầy thông giáo, là người ưa mặc áo dài đi dạo, và thích những sự chào hỏi giữa chợ, muốn ngôi cao trong nhà hội, ngồi đầu trong tiệc lớn,

⁴⁷Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

⁴⁷làm bộ đọc lời cầu nguyện dài, mà nuốt gia tài của đờn bà góa. Họ sẽ bị đoán phạt nặng hơn.
