¹Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

¹Chớ ganh ghét kẻ làm ác. Ðừng ước ao ở cùng chúng nó.

²For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

²Vì lòng chúng nó toan điều hủy phá, Và môi họ nói ra sự tổn hại.

³Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

³Nhờ sự khôn ngoan, cửa nhà được xây cất nên, Và được vững vàng bởi sự thông sáng;

⁴And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

⁴Nhờ sự tri thức, các phòng vi đều được đầy đủ Các thứ tài vật quí báu đẹp đẽ.

⁵A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

⁵Người khôn ngoan có sức mạnh, Và người tri thức gia thêm năng lực.

⁶For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

⁶Vì con phải nhờ mưu khôn mà đánh giặc; Ðâu có nhiều mưu sĩ thì đặng toàn thắng.

⁷Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

⁷Sự khôn ngoan lấy làm cao xa quá cho kẻ ngu dại; Nó không mở miệng ra nơi cửa thành.

⁸He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

⁸Kẻ nào toan làm điều ác, Người ta sẽ gọi hắn là kẻ gian giảo.

⁹The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

⁹Tư tưởng ngu dại là tội lỗi; Kẻ nhạo báng lấy làm gớm ghiếc cho loài người.

¹⁰If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

¹⁰Nếu con ngã lòng trong ngày hoạn nạn, Thì sức lực con nhỏ mọn thay.

¹¹If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

¹¹Hãy giải cứu kẻ bị đùa đến sự chết, Và chớ chối rỗi cho người đi xiêu tó tới chốn hình khổ.

¹²If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

¹²Nếu con nói: Chúng tôi chẳng biết gì đến; Thì Ðấng mà cân nhắc lòng người ta, há chẳng xem xét điều ấy sao? Và Ðấng gìn giữ linh hồn con, há không biết đến ư? Chớ thì Ngài chẳng báo cho mỗi người tùy theo công việc họ làm sao?

¹³My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

¹³Hỡi con, hãy ăn mật, vì nó ngon lành; Tàng ong lấy làm ngọt ngào cho ổ gà con.

¹⁴So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

¹⁴Con sẽ biết sự khôn ngoan nơi linh hồn con cũng như vậy; Nếu con đã tìm được sự khôn ngoan, ắt sẽ có phần thưởng, Và sự trông đợi của con sẽ chẳng phải thành luống công.

¹⁵Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

¹⁵Hỡi kẻ ác, chớ rình rập nhà người công bình; Ðừng phá tan chỗ nghĩ ngơi của người.

¹⁶For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

¹⁶Vì người công bình dầu sa ngã bảy lần, cũng chổi dậy; Còn kẻ hung ác bị tai vạ đánh đổ.

¹⁷Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

¹⁷Khi kẻ thù nghịch con sa ngã, chớ vui mừng; Lúc nó bị đánh đổ, lòng con đừng hớn hở;

¹⁸Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁸Kẻo e Ðức Giê-hô-va thấy điều đó, mà chẳng đẹp lòng, Bèn cất cơn thạnh nộ Ngài khỏi nó chăng.

¹⁹Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

¹⁹Chớ nổi giận vì cớ kẻ làm ác, Cũng đừng ganh ghét những người hung dữ;

²⁰For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰Vì kẻ làm gian ác sẽ không được thiện báo, Và đèn kẻ hung dữ sẽ tắt đi.

²¹My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

²¹Hỡi con, hãy kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va và tôn kính vua; Chớ hội hiệp cùng kẻ phản nghịch;

²²For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

²²Vì sự tai họa của chúng xảy đến thình lình; Và ai biết sự phá hại của người nầy người kia?

²³These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

²³Những ngôn ngữ nầy cũng do kẻ khôn ngoan mà đến: Trong việc xét đoán tư vị người, ấy chẳng phải tốt lành.

²⁴He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

²⁴Kẻ nào nói với kẻ ác rằng: Ngươi là công bình, Sẽ bị dân tộc rủa sả, và các nước lấy làm gớm ghiếc mình;

²⁵But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

²⁵Còn người nào quở trách kẻ ác ắt sẽ được đẹp lòng, Và sự phước lành sẽ giáng trên họ.

²⁶Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

²⁶Ai đáp lời chánh đáng, Tất như hôn nơi môi miệng vậy.

²⁷Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

²⁷Hãy sửa sang công việc ở ngoài của con, Và sắm sẵn tại trong ruộng con; Rồi sau hãy cất nhà của con.

²⁸Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

²⁸Chớ làm chứng vô cớ nghịch kẻ lân cận mình; Con há muốn lấy môi miệng mình mà phỉnh gạt sao?

²⁹Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

²⁹Chớ nên nói: Tôi sẽ làm cho hắn như hắn đã làm cho tôi; Tôi sẽ báo người tùy công việc của người.

³⁰I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

³⁰Ta có đi ngang qua gần ruộng kẻ biếng nhác, Và gần vườn nho của kẻ ngu muội,

³¹And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³¹Thấy cây tật lê mọc khắp cùng, Gai góc che khuất mặt đất, Và tường đá của nó đã phá hư rồi

³²Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

³²Ta nhìn xem, bèn để ý vào đó; Ta thấy và nhận được sự dạy dỗ.

³³Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

³³Ngủ một chút, chợp mắt một chút, Khoanh tay ngủ một chút,

³⁴So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

³⁴Thì sự nghèo của con sẽ đến như một kẻ đi rạo, Và sự thiếu thốn của con áp tới như một kẻ cầm binh khí.
