¹And concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

¹Aegade ja tundide kohta, vennad, ei ole aga vaja teile kirjutada,

²for yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

²sest te teate täpselt, et Issanda päev tuleb just nii nagu varas öösel.

³for when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail [doth] her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

³Kui öeldakse: 'Nüüd on rahu ja kindel olek', siis langeb äkiline hukatus nende peale nagu sünnitusvalud lapseootel naise peale, ja nad ei pääse pakku.

⁴and ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

⁴Teie aga, vennad, ei ole pimeduses, nii et see päev saaks teid tabada nagu varas.

⁵all ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

⁵Teie kõik olete ju valguse lapsed ja päeva lapsed. Meie ei ole öö ega pimeduse lapsed.

⁶so, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

⁶Niisiis, ärgem magagem nagu teised, vaid olgem ärkvel ja kained,

⁷for those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

⁸and we, being of the day — let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet — a hope of salvation,

⁸Aga meie, kes me oleme päeva lapsed, olgem kained, rõivastatud usu ja armastuse kaitserüüga ning päästelootuse kiivriga,

⁹because God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁹sest Jumal ei ole meid asetanud viha alla, vaid pääste saamiseks meie Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse läbi,

¹⁰who did die for us, that whether we wake — whether we sleep — together with him we may live;

¹⁰kes meie eest on surnud, et meie, kas me oleme ärkvel või magame, üheskoos temaga elaksime.

¹¹wherefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

¹¹Seepärast julgustage üksteist ja igaüks kosutagu teist, nagu te seda teetegi!

¹²And we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

¹²Ent me palume teid, vennad, tunnustada neid, kes teie seas tööd teevad ja teid Issandas juhatavad ning noomivad,

¹³and to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

¹³ja pidada neist armastuses üliväga lugu nende töö pärast. Hoidke omavahel rahu!

¹⁴and we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

¹⁴Meie aga manitseme teid, vennad: noomige korratuid, julgustage pelglikke, aidake nõrku, olge pika meelega kõikide vastu!

¹⁵see no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

¹⁵Vaadake, et keegi teisele kurja ei tasuks kurjaga, vaid taotlege alati head üksteisele ja kõikidele!

¹⁶always rejoice ye;

¹⁶Rõõmustage alati,

¹⁷continually pray ye;

¹⁷palvetage lakkamatult,

¹⁸in every thing give thanks, for this [is] the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

¹⁸tänage kõige eest - sest see on, mida Jumal teilt tahab Jeesuses Kristuses!

¹⁹The Spirit quench not;

¹⁹Ärge kustutage Vaimu,

²⁰prophesyings despise not;

²⁰ärge põlastage prohvetiandi,

²¹all things prove; that which is good hold fast;

²¹katsuge läbi kõik, pidage kinni heast,

²²from all appearance of evil abstain ye;

²²hoiduge igasuguse kurja eest!

²³and the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

²³Aga rahu Jumal ise pühitsegu teid läbinisti ning teie vaim ja hing ja ihu olgu tervikuna hoitud laitmatuna meie Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse tulemiseks!

²⁴stedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do [it].

²⁴Ustav on see, kes teid kutsub; küll tema teebki seda.

²⁵Brethren, pray for us;

²⁵Vennad, palvetage meie eest!

²⁶salute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

²⁶Tervitage kõiki vendi püha suudlusega!

²⁷I charge you [by] the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

²⁷Ma vannutan teid Issanda nimel, et see kiri loetaks ette kõikidele vendadele!

²⁸the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with you! Amen.

²⁸Meie Issanda Jeesuse Kristuse arm olgu teiega!
