¹A wise son — the instruction of a father, And a scorner — he hath not heard rebuke.

²From the fruit of the mouth a man eateth good, And the soul of the treacherous — violence.

²Ny vokatry ny vavan'ny olona no ahazoany soa; Fa ny hampidi-doza no mahafaly ny mpivadika.

³Whoso is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoso is opening wide his lips — ruin to him!

³Izay mahambim-bava no miaro ny ainy; Fa izay vavàna dia haringana.[Na: ny fanahiny]

⁴The soul of the slothful is desiring, and hath not. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.

⁴Ny fanahin'ny kamo maniry, fa tsy mba mahazo; Fa ny fanahin'ny mazoto hohatavezina.

⁵A false word the righteous hateth, And the wicked causeth abhorrence, and is confounded.

⁵Ny lainga dia halan'ny marina; Fa ny ratsy fanahy manao izay maharikoriko sy mahamenatra.

⁶Righteousness keepeth him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthroweth a sin offering.

⁶Ny fahamarinana miaro izay mandeha tsy misy tsiny; Fa ny haratsiana mamotraka ny mpanota.

⁷There is who is making himself rich, and hath nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.

⁷Misy mihambo ho manan-karena, nefa tsy manana na inona na inona; Misy kosa mody malahelo, nefa manana harena be.

⁸The ransom of a man`s life [are] his riches, And the poor hath not heard rebuke.

⁸Ny haren'ny olona dia avotry ny ainy; Fa ny levilevy tsy mampiraika ny malahelo akory.

⁹The light of the righteous rejoiceth, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.

⁹Ny fahazavan'ny marina dia tsara firehitra; Fa ny jiron'ny ratsy fanahy ho faty.[Heb. mifaly]

¹⁰A vain man through pride causeth debate, And with the counselled [is] wisdom.

¹⁰Fifandirana ihany no vokatry ny fiavonavonana; Fa ao amin'ny mino anatra no misy fahendrena.

¹¹Wealth from vanity becometh little, And whoso is gathering by the hand becometh great.

¹¹Ny harena azoazo foana dia mihena lalandava; Fa izay mahavatra mitsimpona no mampitombo.

¹²Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.

¹²Ny fanantenana tsy azo vetivety dia mankarary am-bavafo; Fa hazon'aina ny faniriana tanteraka.

¹³Whoso is despising the Word is destroyed for it, And whoso is fearing the Command is repayed.

¹³Izay manamavo ny teny ho voasingony; Fa izay matahotra ny didy no hahazo valim-pitia.[Na: mahavery tena]

¹⁴The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.

¹⁴Ny fampianaran'ny hendry dia loharanon'aina Ka mampivily tsy ho ao amin'ny fandriky ny fahafatesana.

¹⁵Good understanding giveth grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.

¹⁵Ny fahendrena tsara dia ahazoam-pitia; Fa sarotra ny lalan'ny mpivadika.

¹⁶Every prudent one dealeth with knowledge, And a fool spreadeth out folly.

¹⁶Ny mahira-tsaina, rehetra miasa amin'ny fahalalana; Fa ny adala kosa mampiseho hadalana;

¹⁷A wicked messenger falleth into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.

¹⁷Ny iraka ratsy fanahy idiran-doza; Fa ny iraka mahatoky dia famelombelomana.[Na: fanasitranana]

¹⁸Whoso is refusing instruction — poverty and shame, And whoso is observing reproof is honoured.

¹⁸Fahalahelovana sy henatra no ho an'izay mandà famaizana; Fa izay manaiky anatra no homem-boninahitra.

¹⁹A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [is]: Turn from evil.

¹⁹Mamin'ny fo ny faniriana tanteraka; Fa fahavetavetana eo imason'ny adala ny hiala amin'ny ratsy. [Na: efa mitranga]

²⁰Whoso is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffereth evil.

²⁰Izay miara-dia amin'ny hendry dia ho hendry; Fa izay misakaiza amin'ny adala dia hidiran-doza.[Na: ho ratsy]

²¹Evil pursueth sinners, And good recompenseth the righteous.

²¹Ny mpanota dia enjehin'ny loza: Fa hovalian-tsoa ny marina.

²²A good man causeth sons` sons to inherit, And laid up for the righteous [is] the sinner`s wealth.

²²Ny tsara fanahy mahenina lova ny zafiny, Fa ny haren'ny mpanota kosa voatahiry ho an'ny marina.

²³Abundance of food — the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.

²³Ny tanin'ny malahelo izay voasa dia ahazoana hanina be; Fa maro no ringana noho ny fanaovan'izay tsy rariny.

²⁴Whoso is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoso is loving him hath hastened him chastisement.

²⁴Izay mitsitsy ny tsorakazony dia tsy tia ny zanany; Fa izay tia zanaka dia manafay azy, raha mbola kely.Ny marina mihinana ka voky tsara; Fa noana ny kibon'ny ratsy fanahy.

²⁵The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacketh!
