1And there is a certain man of Ramathaim-Zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name [is] Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, and Ephrathite,
1एफ्राईमच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशातील रामा येथला, एलकाना नावाचा एक गृहस्थ होता. हा एलकाना सूफ घराण्यातला असून यरोहाम (किंवा यरामील) याचा मुलगा. यरोहाम एलिहूचा मुलगा आणि एलिहू तोहूचा. तोहू, एफ्राईम घराण्यातील सूफचा मुलगा होय.
2and he hath two wives, the name of the one [is] Hannah, and the name of the second Peninnah, and Peninnah hath children, and Hannah hath no children.
2एलकानाला दोन बायका होत्या. एकीचे नाव हन्ना आणि दुसरीचे पनिन्ना. पनिन्नाला मुलंबाळं होती, पण हन्नाला मात्र अजून मूल झाले नव्हते.
3And that man hath gone up out of his city from time to time, to bow himself, and to sacrifice, before Jehovah of Hosts, in Shiloh, and there [are] two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah.
3एलकाना दरवर्षी रामा या आपल्या गावाहून शिलो येथे जात असे. तेथे तो यज्ञ आणि सर्वशक्तीमान परमेश्वराची भक्ती करत असे. तेथे हफनी आणि फिनहास हे एलीचे मुलगे याजक म्हणून पौरोहित्य करीत होते.
4And the day cometh, and Elkanah sacrificeth, and he hath given to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions,
4एलकाना दर यज्ञाच्या वेळी पनिन्ना आणि तिची मुले यांना त्यांच्या वाटचे अन्न देई.
5and to Hannah he giveth a certain portion — double, for he hath loved Hannah, and Jehovah hath shut her womb;
5हन्नालाही तो समान वाटा देई. परमेश्वराने तिची कूस उजवलेली नसतानाही तो देई, कारण हन्नावर त्याचे खरेखुरे प्रेम होते.
6and her adversity hath also provoked her greatly, so as to make her tremble, for Jehovah hath shut up her womb.
6पनिन्ना दर वेळी काहीतरी बोलून हन्नाला दु:खवी. मूलबाळ नसल्यावरुन दूषणे देई.
7And so he doth year by year, from the time of her going up into the house of Jehovah, so it provoketh her, and she weepeth, and doth not eat.
7असे दरवर्षी चालायचे. शिलो येथील परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात सर्व कुटुंबीय जमले की पनिन्नाच्या बोलण्यामुळे हन्ना कष्टी होई. एकदा असेच एलकाना यज्ञ करीत असताना हन्ना दु:खीकष्टी होऊन रडू लागली. ती काही खाईना.
8And Elkanah her husband saith to her, `Hannah, why weepest thou? and why dost thou not eat? and why is thy heart afflicted? am I not better to thee than ten sons?`
8एलकाना ते पाहून म्हणाला, “तू का रडतेस? तू का खात नाहीस? तू का दु:खी आहेस? तुला मी आहे-मी तुझा नवरा आहे. तू असा विचार कर की मी दहा मुलांपेक्षा अधिक आहे.”
9And Hannah riseth after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking, and Eli the priest is sitting on the throne by the side-post of the temple of Jehovah.
9सर्वांचे खाणे पिणे झाल्यावर हन्ना गूपचूप उठली आणि परमेश्वराची प्रार्थना करायला गेली. एली हा याजक तेव्हा परमेश्वराच्या पवित्रस्थानाच्या दरवाजाजवळ आपल्या आसनावर बसला होता.
10And she is bitter in soul, and prayeth unto Jehovah, and weepeth greatly,
10हन्ना अतिशय खिन्न होती. परमेश्वराची प्रार्थना करताना तिला रडू कोसळले.
11and voweth a vow, and saith, `Jehovah of Hosts, if Thou dost certainly look on the affliction of Thy handmaid, and hast remembered me, and dost not forget Thy handmaid, and hast given to Thy handmaid seed of men — then I have given him to Jehovah all days of his life, and a razor doth not go up upon his head.`
11परमेश्वराला ती एक नवस बोलली. ती म्हणाली, “हे सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वरा, माझे दु:ख तू बघतोच आहेस. माझा विसर पडू देऊ नकोस. तू मला मुलगा दिलास तर मी तो तुलाच अर्पण करीन. तो परमेश्वराचा नाजीर होईल. तो मद्यपान करणार नाही. त्याचे आम्ही जावळ काढणार नाही.”
12And it hath been, when she multiplied praying before Jehovah, that Eli is watching her mouth,
12हन्नाची प्रार्थना बराच वेळ चालली होती. त्यावेळी एलीचे तिच्या तोंडाकडे लक्ष होते.
13and Hannah, she is speaking to her heart, only her lips are moving, and her voice is not heard, and Eli reckoneth her to be drunken.
13ती मनोमन प्रार्थना करत होती त्यामुळे तिचे ओठ हलत होते पण शब्द बाहेर फुटत नव्हते. त्यामुळे ती दारुच्या नशेत आहे असे एलीला वाटले.
14And Eli saith unto her, `Until when are thou drunken? turn aside thy wine from thee.`
14एली तिला म्हणाला, “तू फार प्यायलेली दिसतेस. आता मद्यापासून दूर राहा.”
15And Hannah answereth and saith, `No, my lord, A woman sharply pained in spirit I [am], and wine and strong drink I have not drunk, and I pour out my soul before Jehovah;
15हन्ना म्हणाली, “महाशय, मी कोणतेही मद्य घेतलेले नाही. मी अतिशय त्रासलेली आहे. परमेश्वराला मी माझी सर्व गाऱ्हाणी सांगत होते.
16put not thy handmaid before a daughter of worthlessness, for from the abundance of my meditation, and of my provocation, I have spoken hitherto.`
16मी वाईट बाई आहे असे समजू नका. मी फार व्यभित आहे, मला फार दु:खं आहेत म्हणून मी खूप वेळ प्रार्थना करीत होते इतकंच.”
17And Eli answereth and saith, `Go in peace, and the God of Israel doth give thy petition which thou hast asked of Him.`
17तेव्हा एली म्हणाला, “शांती ने जा. इस्राएलाच्या देवाकडे जे मागणे तू केले आहे ते तो तुला देवो.”
18And she saith, `Let thy handmaid find grace in thine eyes;` and the woman goeth on her way, and eateth, and her countenance hath not been [sad] for it any more.
18“तुम्ही माझ्यावर प्रसन्न आहात अशी आशा आहे.” असे त्याला म्हणून हन्ना निघाली. तिने नंतर थोडे खाल्लेही. आता तिला उदास वाटत नव्हते.
19And they rise early in the morning, and bow themselves before Jehovah, and turn back, and come in unto their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knoweth Hannah his wife, and Jehovah remembereth her;
19दुसऱ्या दिवशी पहाटे उठून परमेश्वराची भक्ती करुन एलकानाचे कुटुंबीय रामा येथे आपल्या घरी परतले. पुढे एलकाना आणि हन्नाचा संबंध आला तेव्हा परमेश्वराला तिचे स्मरण झाले.
20and it cometh to pass, at the revolution of the days, that Hannah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Samuel, `for, from Jehovah I have asked him.`
20यथावकाश तिला दिवस राहिले व मुलगा झाला. हन्नाने त्याचे नाव शमुवेल ठेवले. ती म्हणाली, “मी परमेश्वराकडे त्याला मागितले म्हणून त्याचे नाव शमुवेल.”
21And the man Elkanah goeth up, and all his house, to sacrifice to Jehovah the sacrifice of the days, and his vow.
21एलकाना त्या वर्षी यज्ञ करण्यासाठी आणि देवाला बोललेले नवस फेडण्यासाठी शिलो येथे सहकुटुंब गेला
22And Hannah hath not gone up, for she said to her husband, `Till the youth is weaned — then I have brought him in, and he hath appeared before the face of Jehovah, and dwelt there — unto the age.`
22हन्ना मात्र गेली नाही. ती म्हणाली, “मुलगा जेवण खाऊ शकेल इतपत मोठा झाला की मी त्याला शिलोला घेऊन जाईन. त्याला परमेश्वराला वाहीन. तो नाजीर होईल. मग तो तिथेच राहील.”
23And Elkanah her husband saith to her, `Do that which is good in thine eyes; abide till thy weaning him; only, Jehovah establish His word;` and the woman abideth and suckleth her son till she hath weaned him,
23हन्नाचा पती एलकाना त्यावर म्हणाला, “तुला योग्य वाटेल तसे कर. तो खायला लागेपर्यंत तू हवी तर घरीच राहा. परमेश्वराने दिलेला आशीर्वाद खरा ठरो “. तेव्हा हन्ना घरीच राहिली कारण शमुवेल अंगावर पीत होता. त्याचे दूध तुटेपर्यंत ती राहिली.
24and she causeth him to go up with her when she hath weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she bringeth him into the house of Jehovah at Shiloh, and the youth [is but] a youth.
24तो पुरेसा मोठा झाल्यावर हन्ना त्याला शिलो येथे परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात घेऊन आली. तिने तीन वर्षाचा एक गोऱ्हा वीस पौंड पीठ आणि द्राक्षरसाचा बुधला हे ही आणले.
25And they slaughter the bullock, and bring in the youth unto Eli,
25ते सर्व परमेश्वरासमोर गेले. एलकानाने नेहमी प्रमाणे परमेश्वरासमोर गोऱ्ह्याचा बळी दिला. मग हन्नाने मुलाला एलीच्या स्वाधीन केले.
26and she saith, `O, my lord, thy soul liveth! my lord, I [am] the woman who stood with thee in this [place], to pray unto Jehovah;
26ती एलीला म्हणाली “महाशय, माझ्यावर कृपादृष्टी असू द्या मी खरे तेच सांगते. मीच इथे तुमच्याजवळ बसून पूर्वी परमेश्वराजवळ याचना केली होती.
27for this youth I prayed, and Jehovah doth give to me my petition which I asked of Him;
27परमेश्वराकडे मी मुलगा मागितला आणि परमेश्वराने माझी इच्छा पूर्ण केली. परमेश्वराने हा मुलगा मला दिला.
28and also I have caused him to be asked for Jehovah, all the days that he hath lived — he is asked for Jehovah;` and he boweth himself there before Jehovah.
28आता मी तो परमेश्वराला अर्पण करते. तो आयुष्यभर परमेश्वराची सेवा करील.” हन्नाने मग मुलाला तिथेच ठेवले आणि परमेश्वराची भक्ती केली.
