1And Hannah prayeth, and saith: `My heart hath exulted in Jehovah, My horn hath been high in Jehovah, My mouth hath been large over mine enemies, For I have rejoiced in Thy salvation.
1हन्नाने परमेश्वराला धन्यवाद देणारे गीत म्हटले; “परमेश्वराबद्दल माझ्या मनात आनंद मावत नाही. त्याच्यामुळे मला सामर्थ्य आले माझ्या शत्रुंना मी हसते. माझ्या विजयाचा मला आनंद आहे!
2There is none holy like Jehovah, For there is none save Thee, And there is no rock like our God.
2परमेश्वरासारखा पवित्र कोणी देव नाही. देवा, तुझ्यावाचून कोणी नाही. आमच्या देवासारखा अभेद्य दुर्ग दुसरा नाही.
3Ye multiply not — ye speak haughtily — The old saying goeth out from your mouth, For a God of knowledge [is] Jehovah, And by Him actions are weighed.
3लोकहो, बढाया मारु नका. गर्वाने बोलू नका. कारण परमेश्वर सर्वज्ञ आहे. तोच लोकांचे नेतृत्व करतो आणि त्यांना न्याय देतो.
4Bows of the mighty are broken, And the stumbling have girded on strength.
4शूरांची धनुष्यं भंगतात आणि दुर्बळ लोक शक्तीशाली होतात.
5The satiated for bread hired themselves, And the hungry have ceased. While the barren hath borne seven, And she abounding with sons hath languished.
5पूर्वी ज्यांच्याकडे अन्नाधान्याचे मुबलक साठे होते त्यांना आज अन्नासाठी मोल मजुरी करावी लागत आहे. आणि जे पूर्वी भुकेकंगाल होते ते आता आराम करत आहेत. आजपर्यंत नि:संतान होती तिला आता सात मुलं आहेत. पण मुलबाळ असलेली दु:खी आहे. कारण तिची मुलं तिच्यापासून लांब गेली आहेत.
6Jehovah putteth to death, and keepeth alive, He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.
6परमेश्वर लोकांना मरण देतो आणि परमेश्वरच त्यांना जीवन देतो. तोच अधोलोकाला नेतो आणि वरही आणतो.
7Jehovah dispossesseth, and He maketh rich, He maketh low, yea, He maketh high.
7परमेश्वरच काहीना दरिद्री तर काहींना श्रीमंत करतो. काही लोकांना लाचार करतो तर काहींचा सन्मान परमेश्वरच करतो.
8He raiseth from the dust the poor, From a dunghill He lifteth up the needy, To cause [them] to sit with nobles, Yea, a throne of honour He doth cause them to inherit, For to Jehovah [are] the fixtures of earth, And He setteth on them the habitable world.
8गरीबांना धुळीतून उचलून त्यांचे दु:ख हरण त्यांचा गौरव करुन त्यांना राजपुत्रांच्या बरोबरीने बसवतो, मानाचे स्थान देतो. जगाची निर्मिती परमेश्वरानेच केली. सर्वजगावर त्याचीच सत्ता आहे.
9The feet of His saints He keepeth, And the wicked in darkness are silent, For not by power doth man become mighty.
9सज्जनांना तो आधार देतो. त्यांना लटपटू देत नाही. पण दुर्जनांचा संहार करतो. त्यांना गर्तेत ढकलतो दुर्जनांचे बळ अशा वेळी कुचकामी ठरते.
10Jehovah — broken down are His adversaries, Against them in the heavens He thundereth: Jehovah judgeth the ends of earth, And giveth strength to His king, And exalteth the horn of His anointed.`
10शत्रूंचा तो नाश करुन त्याच्यावर गर्जेल. दूरदूरच्या प्रदेशांचाही तो न्याय करील. राजाला सामर्थ्य देईल. आपल्या खास राजाला बलवान करील.”
11And Elkanah goeth to Ramath, unto his house, and the youth hath been serving Jehovah, [in] the presence of Eli the priest;
11एलकाना आणि त्याचे कुटुंबीय रामा येथे परतले. मुलगा मात्र शिलो येथे एली याजकाच्या हाताखाली परमेश्वराच्या सेवेत राहिला.
12and the sons of Eli [are] sons of worthlessness, they have not known Jehovah.
12एलीची मुले वाईट होती. त्यांना परमेश्वराची पर्वा नव्हती.
13And the custom of the priests with the people [is]: any man sacrificing a sacrifice — then hath the servant of the priest come in when the flesh is boiling, and the hook of three teeth in his hand,
13याजकांनी लोकांना जशी वागणूक द्यावी तशी ते देत नव्हते. खरी रीत अशी होती की लोकांनी यज्ञासाठी बळी आणल्यावर याजकांनी ते मांस शिजत ठेवायचे. याजकाच्या नोकराने तीन काटे असलेली आकडी आणायची.
14and hath struck [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook bringeth up doth the priest take for himself; thus they do to all Israel who are coming in, there, in Shiloh.
14तपेल्यात तो त्रिशूल खुपसून त्यावर येईल तेवढेच मांस याजकाने स्वीकारायचे. शिलो येथे यज्ञासाठी येणाऱ्या सर्व इस्राएलीच्या बाबतीत याजकांनी असेच करायला हवे होते.
15Also before they make perfume with the fat — then hath the priest`s servant come in, and said to the man who is sacrificing, `Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he doth not take of thee flesh boiled, but raw;`
15पण एलीची मुले मात्र असे करत नसत. वेदीवर चरबीचे हवन करण्याआधीच त्यांचा नोकर लोकांजवळ येऊन म्हणे, “याजकांसाठी म्हणून थोडे मांस भाजायला द्या. शिजलेले मांस ते घेणार नाहीत.”
16and the man saith unto him, `Let them surely make a perfume (as to-day) with the fat, then take to thee as thy soul desireth;` and he hath said to him, `Surely now thou dost give; and if not — I have taken by strength.`
16“हवान तर होऊ दे, मग हवे तेवढे त्यातून काढून घे,” असे कोणी म्हणालेच तर तो नोकर म्हणे, “नाही, आत्ताच द्या नाहीतर मी जबरदस्तीने काढून घेईन.”
17And the sin of the young men is very great [in] the presence of Jehovah, for the men have despised the offering of Jehovah.
17परमेश्वराला देण्यात येणाऱ्या यज्ञबली विषयी हफनी आणि फिनेहास यांना कोणताही आदरभाव नव्हता हेच यातून दिसून येई. हे परमेश्वराविरुध्द असलेले मोठे पाप होते.
18And Samuel is ministering [in] the presence of Jehovah, a youth girt [with] an ephod of linen;
18पण शमुवेल मात्र परमेश्वराची सेवा करत असे. एफोद घालून तो मदत करी.
19and a small upper coat doth his mother make to him, and she hath brought it up to him from time to time, in her coming up with her husband to sacrifice the sacrifice of the time.
19त्याची आई दरवर्षी त्याच्यासाठी लहानसा अंगरखा शिवत असे. दरवर्षी नवऱ्याबरोबर शिलो येथे यज्ञासाठी जाताना ती तो घेऊन जाई.
20And Eli blessed Elkanah, and his wife, and said, `Jehovah doth appoint for thee seed of this woman, for the petition which she asked for Jehovah;` and they have gone to their place.
20एलकाना आणि त्याची बायको यांना एली मनापासून आशीर्वाद देई. तो म्हणे, “हन्नापासून तुला आणखी संतती होवो. परमेश्वराच्या आशीर्वादाने झालेला मुलगा तुम्ही परमेश्वराला दिलात, तेव्हा तुम्हाला आणखी मुले होवोत.” हन्ना आणि एलकाना मग घरी परतत.
21When Jehovah hath looked after Hannah, then she conceiveth and beareth three sons and two daughters; and the youth Samuel groweth up with Jehovah.
21परमेश्वराने हन्नावर कृपा केली आणि तिला नंतर तीन मुलगे आणि दोन मुली झाल्या. शमुवेल परमेश्वराच्या पवित्र सान्निध्यात वाढत होता.
22And Eli [is] very old, and hath heard all that his sons do to all Israel, and how that they lie with the women who are assembling [at] the opening of the tent of meeting,
22एली आता म्हतारा होत चालला. शिलो येथे येणाऱ्या इस्राएलींशी होणारे आपल्या मुलांचे वर्तन पुन्हा पुन्हा त्याच्या कानावर येऊ लागले. दर्शन मंडपाच्या दाराशी सेवेत असलेल्या बायकांशी त्यांनी कसा अतिप्रसंग केला हेही त्याने ऐकले.
23and he saith to them, `Why do ye things like these? for I am hearing of your evil words from all the people — these!
23तेव्हा तो मुलांना म्हणाला, “तुमचे प्रताप माझ्या कानावर आले आहेत. अशी नीच कृत्ये तुम्ही का करता?
24Nay, my sons; for the report which I am hearing is not good causing the people of Jehovah to transgress. —
24मुलांनो, असे करत जाऊ नका. परमेश्वराचे लोक तुमच्याविषयी फार वाईट बोलत आहेत.
25If a man sin against a man, then hath God judged him; but if against Jehovah a man sin, who doth pray for him?` and they hearken not to the voice of their father, though Jehovah hath delighted to put them to death.
25एका माणसाने दुसऱ्या माणसाचा काही अपराध केला तर परमेश्वर एकवेळ त्याच्या मदतीला येईल. पण परमेश्वराविरुध्दच पातक केले तर त्याच्या मदतीला कोण धावून येणार?” पण एलीच्या मुलांनी वडिलांच्या सांगण्याकडे साफ दुर्लक्ष केले. तेव्हा परमेश्वराने या मुलांना मारायचे ठरवले.
26And the youth Samuel is going on and growing up, and [is] good both with Jehovah, and also with men.
26शमुवेल मोठा होत चालला. परमेश्वर आणि लोक त्याच्यावर प्रसन्न होते.
27And there cometh a man of God unto Eli, and saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Was I really revealed unto the house of thy father in their being in Egypt, before Pharaoh`s house,
27एकदा परमेश्वराचा संदेष्टा एलीकडे आला आणि म्हणाला, “परमेश्वराने हा निरोप दिला आहे; ‘तुझे पूर्वज फारोच्या घराण्यात दास होते. तेव्हा मी त्यांच्या पुढे प्रगट झालो.
28even to choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to Me for a priest, to go up on Mine altar, to make a perfume, to bear an ephod before Me, and I give to the house of thy father all the fire-offerings of the sons of Israel?
28इस्राएलच्या सर्व घराण्यांमधून तुमच्याच घराण्याची मी माझे याजक होण्यासाठी म्हणून निवड केली. वेदीवर यज्ञबली अर्पण करावा, धूप जाळावा, एफोद घालावा म्हणून मी तुम्हाला निवडले. इस्राएलचे लोक यज्ञ करतात त्यातील मांस मी तुम्हाला घेऊ दिले.
29Why do ye kick at My sacrifice, and at Mine offering which I commanded [in] My habitation, and dost honour thy sons above Me, to make yourselves fat from the first part of every offering of Israel, of My people?
29तेव्हा तुम्ही त्या यज्ञाचा आणि देणग्यांचा आदर ठेवत नाही हे कसे? माझ्यापेक्षा तू आपल्या मुलांचाच मान ठेवतोस? इस्राएल लोक मला जे मांस वाहतात, त्यातील उत्कृष्ट भाग स्वत:साठी घेऊन तू पुष्ट झाला आहेस.’
30`Therefore — the affirmation of Jehovah, God of Israel — I certainly said, Thy house and the house of thy father, do walk up and down before Me to the age; and now — the affirmation of Jehovah — Far be it from Me! for he who is honouring Me, I honour, and those despising Me, are lightly esteemed.
30“तुझे घराणेच निरंतर त्याची सेवा करील असे इस्राएलचा देव जो परमेश्वर याने म्हटले होते खरे. पण आता त्याचे म्हणणे असे आहे की, ‘इथून पुढे असे होणार नाही. माझा आदर ठेवतात त्यांचा मी मान राखीन. पण जे अनादर करतात त्यांच्यावर संकटे कोसळतील.
31`Lo, days [are] coming, and I have cut off thine arm, and the arm of the house of thy father, that an old man is not in thy house;
31तुझ्या सर्व वंशजांचा संहार करायची वेळ येऊन ठेपली आहे. तुझ्या घराण्यातील कोणीही आता दीर्घायुषी होणार नाही..
32and thou hast beheld an adversary [in My] habitation, in all that He doth good with Israel, and there is not an old man in thy house all the days.
32इस्राएलमध्ये सर्व चांगले घडेल. पण तुझ्या घरात मात्र सगळी दुर्दशा होईल. तुझ्या घरातले कोणी म्हातारा होई पर्यत जगणार नाही.
33`And the man I cut not off of thine from Mine altar, [is] to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy soul; and all the increase of thy house do die men;
33माझ्या वेदीजवळ याजक म्हणून सेवा करायला फक्त एकाला मी शिल्लक ठेवीन. त्याला दीर्घायुष्य लाभेल. तो जराजर्जर होईपर्यंत जगेल. तुझे वंशज मात्र तलवारीला बळी पडतील.
34and this [is] to thee the sign that cometh unto thy two sons, unto Hophni and Phinehas — in one day they die both of them;
34हे सर्व खरेच घडणार आहे याची प्राचीती मी तुला दाखवीन. तुझे दोनही मुलगे हफनी आणि फिनहास, एकाच दिवशी मरतील.
35and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he doth do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he hath walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;
35मी एका विश्वासू याजकाची माझ्यासाठी निवड करीन. तो माझे ऐकेल आणि माझ्या मनाप्रमाणे काम करील. या याजकाच्या घराण्याला मी स्थिरस्थावर करीन. मी निवडलेल्या राजापुढे तो सेवेत राहील.
36and it hath been, every one who is left in thy house doth come in to bow himself to him, for a wage of silver, and a cake of bread, and hath said, Admit me, I pray thee, unto one of the priest`s offices, to eat a morsel of bread.`
36मग तुझ्या घरातील उरले सुरले लोक येऊन या याजकापुढे नतमस्तक होतील. किरकोळ रक्कम किंवा भाकरतुकडा याच्यासाठी ते पदर पसरतील आणि म्हणतील, “माझ्या भाकरीची सोय व्हावी म्हणून याजकपदातील एखादे काम मला द्या.”
