¹And Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;

¹नंतर याकोबाने आपला प्रवास पुढे चालून ठेवला. तो पूर्वेकडील प्रदेशात गेला.

²and he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone [is] on the mouth of the well.

²त्याने समोर पाहिले तेव्हा त्याला एका शेतात एक विहीर दिसली; त्या विहिरी जवळ शेरडामेंढराचे तीन कळप बसलेले होते; ही विहीर त्यांची पाणी पिण्याची जागा होती. या विहिरीचे तोंड एका मोठया दगडाने झाकलेले होते;

³(When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)

³जेव्हा सर्व कळप तेथे जमत तेव्हा मेंढपाळ विहिरीच्या तोंडावरील मोठा दगड ढकलून बाजूला सारीत मग सर्व कळपांचे पाणी पिऊन झाल्यावर ते तो दगड परत त्याच जागेवर ठेवीत.

⁴And Jacob saith to them, `My brethren, from whence [are] ye?` and they say, `We [are] from Haran.`

⁴याकोब त्या मेंढपाळांना म्हणाला, “माझ्या बंधूंनो, तुम्ही कोठून आलात?” ते म्हणाले, “आम्ही हारानाहून आलो आहोत.”

⁵And he saith to them, `Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?` and they say, `We have known.`

⁵मग याकोब म्हणाला, “नाहोराचा मुलगा लाबान याला तुम्ही ओळखता का?” ते म्हणाले, “होय, आम्ही त्याला ओळखतो.”

⁶And he saith to them, `Hath he peace?` and they say, `Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.`

⁶याकोबाने त्यांना विचारले, “तो बरा आहे काय?” त्यानी उत्तर दिले, “तो बरा व खुशाल आहे आणि त्याचे सर्वकाही चांगले आहे. ती पाहा त्याची मुलगी राहेल, त्याची मेंढरे घेऊन इकडे येत आहे.”

⁷And he saith, `Lo, the day [is] still great, [it is] not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.`

⁷याकोब म्हणाला, “हे पाहा, अद्याप दिवस बराच आहे आणि सूर्य मावळण्यास अजून बराच वेळ आहे; तसेच रात्रीसाठी कळपांना गोळा करण्यास अजून बराच अवकाश आहे; तेव्हा त्यांना पाणी पाजा, आणि चरण्यासाठी त्यांना परत शेतात जाऊद्या.”

⁸And they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.`

⁸परंतु ते म्हणाले, “आम्हाला तसे करता येत नाही, कारण सर्व कळप एकत्र आल्यावरच आम्ही विहिरीवरील दगड बाजूला सारतो व मग सर्व कळपांना पाणी पाजतो.”

⁹He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she [is] shepherdess;

⁹याकोब मेंढपाळांशी बोलत असतानाच राहेल आपल्या बापाची मेंढरे घेऊन आली; (कारण शेरडा मेंढराना चारण्याचे व त्यांची निगा राखण्याचे काम ती करीत असे.)

¹⁰and it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother`s brother, and the flock of Laban his mother`s brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother`s brother.

¹⁰राहेल ही याकोबाच्या मामाची म्हणजेच याकोबाची आई रिबका हिचा भाऊ लाबान याची मुलगी होती. याकोबाने जेव्हा राहेलीस पाहिले तेव्हा त्याने जाऊन विहिरीच्या तोंडावरील दगड लोटला आणि आपल्या मामच्या मेंढरास पाणी पाजले.

¹¹And Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,

¹¹नंतर त्याने राहेलीचे चुंबन घेतले आणि तो खूप रडला;

¹²and Jacob declareth to Rachel that he [is] her father`s brother, and that he [is] Rebekah`s son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.

¹²आपण तिच्या बापाच्या आप्तातील असल्याचे म्हणजे तिच्या बापाची धाकटी बहीण रिबका हिचा मुलगा असल्याचे त्याने राहेलीस सांगितले; तेव्हा राहेल धावत घरी गेली आणि या गोष्टी तिने आपल्या बापाला सांगितल्या.

¹³And it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister`s son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,

¹³आपला भाचा याकोब आल्याचे वर्तमान लाबानाने ऐकले तेव्हा लाबान धावत त्याला भेटावयास गेला; त्याने याकोबला मिठी मारली व त्याची चुंबने घेतली आणि त्याला आपल्या घरी आणले; मग याकाबाने घडलेल्या सर्व गोष्टी आपला मामा लाबान याला सांगितल्या.

¹⁴and Laban saith to him, `Only my bone and my flesh [art] thou;` and he dwelleth with him a month of days.

¹⁴मग लाबान म्हणाला, “हे आश्चर्य आहे की आपले रक्ताचे नाते आहे;” तेव्हा त्यानंतर याकोब एक महिनाभर लाबानापाशी राहिला.

¹⁵And Laban saith to Jacob, `Is it because thou [art] my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what [is] thy hire.`

¹⁵5एके दिवशी लाबान याकोबाला म्हणाला, “तू माझ्या घरी, काही मोबदला न घेता गुलामासारखे काम करीत राहावेस हे योग्य नाही; तू माझा नातलग आहेस; तर तुला मी काय वेतन द्यावे ते सांग.”

¹⁶And Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder [is] Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,

¹⁶लाबानाला दोन मुली होत्या; थोरल्या मुलीचे नाव होते लेआ आणि धाकटीचे राहेल.

¹⁷and the eyes of Leah [are] tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.

¹⁷लेआचे डोळे अधू आणि निस्तेज होते. परंतु राहेल सुडौल बांध्याची व दिसावयास सुंदर होती;

¹⁸And Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, `I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:`

¹⁸याकोबाचे राहेलीवर प्रेम जडले होते; म्हणून याकोब लाबानमामास म्हणाला, “तुम्ही मला तुमच्या धाकट्या मुलीशी राहेलीशी लग्न करण्याची परवानगी देणार असाल तर मी तुमच्या घरी सात वर्षे तुमची सेवाचाकरी करीन.”

¹⁹and Laban saith, `It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;`

¹⁹लाबान म्हणाला, “परक्या कोणापेक्षा तिने तुझ्याशी लग्न करावे हे तिच्यासाठी चांगले आहे; म्हणून तू आता माझ्यापाशी राहा.”

²⁰and Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.

²⁰म्हणून मग याकोब आपल्या मामापाशी राहिला आणि त्याने सात वर्षे त्याची सेवाचाकरी केली; परंतु राहेलीवरील गाढ प्रेमामुळे ती वर्षे त्याला फार थोड्या दिवसासारखी वाटली.

²¹And Jacob saith unto Laban, `Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;`

²¹सात वर्षेनंतर याकोब लाबानाला म्हणाला, “आता मला राहेल द्या म्हणजे मी तिच्याशी लग्न करीन कारण तुमच्या सेवा चाकरीचा माझा वेळ संपलेला आहे.”

²²and Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.

²²तेव्हा लाबानाने तेथील सर्वलोकांस मेजवानी दिली;

²³And it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;

²³त्या रात्री लाबानाने आपली थोरली मुलगी लेआ याकोबाच्या स्वाधीन केली; त्या रात्री याकोब व त्याची बायको लेआ यांनी एकत्र निजून विवाहाच्या जीवनाचा आनंद उपभोगला;

²⁴and Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.

²⁴(लाबानाने आपली दासी जिल्या आपल्या मुलीची दासी म्हणून तिला दिली.)

²⁵And it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it [is] Leah; and he saith unto Laban, `What [is] this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?`

²⁵दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी याकोबाने लेआला पाहिले तेव्हा आपण रात्री लेआबरोबर एकत्र निजलो असे त्याला समजले; मग याकोब लाबानाला म्हणाला, “तुम्ही मला फसवले; मला राहेलीशी लग्न करता यावे म्हणून मी अतिशय काबाडकष्ट केले; तुम्ही मला असे का फसवले?”

²⁶And Laban saith, `It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;

²⁶लाबान म्हणाला, “आमच्या देशातील रीतीरिवाजा प्रमाणे आधी थोरल्या मुलीचे लग्न झाल्या शिवाय आम्ही धाकटया मुलीचे लग्न करुन देत नाहीं;

²⁷fulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.`

²⁷तरी परंतु हा लग्न विधी सप्ताह सोहळा साजरा करण्यात सहभागी हो म्हणजे मग मी तुला लग्न करण्यासाठी राहेलही देतो; परंतु त्यासाठी तू आणखी सात वर्षे माझी सेवाचाकरी केली पाहिजेस.”

²⁸And Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;

²⁸त्याप्रमाणे याकोबाने आठवडाभर तो सर्व लग्न सोहळा पूर्ण केला; मग लाबानाने त्याची धाकटी कन्या राहेल त्याला बायको करुन दिली;

²⁹and Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.

²⁹(लाबानाने आपली दासी बिल्हा, आपली कन्या राहेल हिला दासी म्हणून दिली.)

³⁰And he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.

³⁰तेव्हा मग याकोब राहेलीशीही एकत्र निजला; आणि याकोबाचे लेआपेक्षा राहेलीवर अधिक प्रेम होते, म्हणून लाबानाकडे याकोबाने राहेलीसाठी आणखी सात वर्षे सेवा चाकरी केली.

³¹And Jehovah seeth that Leah [is] the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel [is] barren;

³¹परमेश्वराने पाहिले की याकोबाचे लेआपेक्षा राहेलीवर अधिक प्रेम आहे, म्हणून परमेश्वराने लेआला मुले होऊ दिली परंतु राहेलीस मूलबाळ दिले नाही;

³²and Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, `Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.`

³²लेआला मुलगा झाला; तिने त्याचे नाव रऊबेन ठेवले; कारण ती म्हणाली, “परमेश्वराने माझे दु:ख पाहिले आहे; कारण माझा नवरा माझ्यावर प्रेम करीत नाही; परंतु आता कदाचित तो माझ्यावर प्रेम करील.”

³³And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Because Jehovah hath heard that I [am] the hated one, He also giveth to me even this [one];` and she calleth his name Simeon.

³³लेआ पुन्हा गरोदर राहिली आणि तिला आणखी एक मुलगा झाला; ह्या मुलाचे नाव तिने शिमोन ठेवले, कारण ती म्हणाली, “माझ्या नवऱ्याचे माझ्यावर प्रेम नाही हे परमेश्वराने ऐकले आहे म्हणून त्याने मला हा मुलगा दिला आहे.”

³⁴And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Now [is] the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,` therefore hath [one] called his name Levi.

³⁴लेआ आणखी गर्भवती झाली व तिला मुलगा झाला; तेव्हा तिने त्याचे नाव लेवी असे ठेवले; कारण ती म्हणाली, “आता मात्र माझा नवरा माझ्यावर नक्की प्रेम करील कारण मी त्यांना तीन मुलगे दिले आहेत.”

³⁵And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, `I praise Jehovah;` therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.

³⁵त्यानंतर लेआला आणखी एक मुलगा झाला; तिने त्याचे नाव यहूदा ठेवले; करण ती म्हणाली, “आता मी परमेश्वराची स्तुति करीन.” नंतर तिचे जनन थांबले.
