¹And Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none — I die.`

¹याकोबापासून आपल्याला मुले होत नाहीन हे पाहिल्यावर राहेल आपली बहीण लेआ हिचा मत्सर करु लागली; तेव्हा राहेल याकोबला म्हणाली, “मला मुले देणारी करा नाही तर मी मरेन.”

²And Jacob`s anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?`

²याकोब राहेलीवर रागावला; तो म्हणाला, “तुला पुत्रवती करायला मी काय देव आहे? देवानेच तुला मुले होऊ नयेत असे करुन ठेवले आहे.”

³And she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;`

³मग राहेल म्हणाली, “तुम्ही माझी दासी बिल्हा उपपत्नी म्हणून घ्या; तुम्ही तिच्याजवळ निजा; मग ती माझ्या मांडीवर बाळंत होईल व तिजपासून मला मूल मिळेल; तिच्यामुळे मग मलाही मुलगा होईल आणि मी आई होईन.”

⁴and she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;

⁴तेव्हा राहेलीने बिल्हा आपला नवरा याकोब ह्याला उपपत्नी म्हणून दिली; आणि याकोब तिजपाशी गेला;

⁵and Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,

⁵तेव्हा बिल्हा याकोबापासून गरोदर राहिली व तिला मुलगा झाला.

⁶and Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;` therefore hath she called his name Dan.

⁶राहेल म्हणाली, “देवाने माझी प्रार्थना ऐकली आहे. त्याने मला मुलगा देण्याचे ठरवले;” म्हणून तिने त्याचे नाव दान ठेवले.

⁷And Bilhah, Rachel`s maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,

⁷बिल्हा पुन्हा गर्भवती झाली व तिला याकोबापासून दुसरा मुलगा झाला;

⁸and Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;` and she calleth his name Napthali.

⁸राहेल म्हणाली, “मी माझ्या बहिणीशी जिद्दीने स्पर्धा करुन कठीन लढा दिला आहे व जय मिळवला आहे.” तेव्हा तिने त्याचे नाव नफताली ठेवले.

⁹And Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;

⁹लेआने असे पाहिले की, आता आपल्याला आणखी मुले होणार नाहीत; तेव्हा तिने आपली दासी जिल्पा हीला आपला नवरा याकोब याला उपपत्नी म्हणून दिली.

¹⁰and Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,

¹⁰नंतर जिल्पाला मुलगा झाला;

¹¹and Leah saith, `A troop is coming;` and she calleth his name Gad.

¹¹तेव्हा लेआ म्हणाली, “मी कितीतरी भाग्यवान आहे;” तेव्हा तिने त्याचे नाव गाद ठेवले.

¹²And Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,

¹²जिल्पाला आणखी एक मुलगा झाला;

¹³and Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;` and she calleth his name Asher.

¹³तेव्हा लेआ म्हणाली, “आता मला खूप आनंद झाला आहे! इतर स्त्रिया मला धन्य म्हणतील” मग तिने त्याचे नाव आशेर ठेवले.

¹⁴And Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.`

¹⁴गव्हाच्या हंगामाच्या दिवसात रुबेन शेतात गेला असता त्याला काही विशेष प्रकारची फुले सांपडली त्याने ती फुले आपली आई लेआ हिच्याकडे आणून दिली; परंतु राहेल लेआला म्हणाली, “तुझा मुलगा रुबेन याने आणलेल्या पुत्रदात्रीच्या फुलातून काही फुले कृपा करुन मला दे.”

¹⁵And she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?` and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son`s love-apples.`

¹⁵लेआने उत्तर दिले, “अगोदरच तू माझा नवरा घेतलास तर घेतलास, आणि आता माझ्या मुलाने आणलेली पुत्रदात्रीची फुलेही तू माझ्याकडून घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करतेस काय?” परंतु राहेल म्हणाली, “जर तुझ्या मुलाने आणलेली पुत्रदात्रीची फुले मला देशील तर त्यांच्या मोबदल्यात आज रात्री तुला याकोबापाशी निजावयाला मिळेल.”

¹⁶And Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son`s love-apples;` and he lieth with her during that night.

¹⁶याकोब शेतावरुन त्या रात्री घरी आला; लेआने त्याला पाहिले व ती त्याला भेटावयास बाहेर गेली; व ती म्हणाली, “आज रात्री तुम्ही माझ्याजवळ निजणार आहात कारण माझ्या मुलाने आणलेली पुत्रदात्रीची फुले राहेलीस देऊन मी त्यांचा मोबदला भरुन दिला आहे.” तेव्हा याकोब त्या रात्रीं लेआपाशी निजला.

¹⁷And God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,

¹⁷तेव्हा देवाने लेआची कूस फलदायी केली व ती पुन्हा गर्भवती होऊन तिला पाचवा मुलगा झाला;

¹⁸and Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;` and she calleth his name Issachar.

¹⁸लेआ म्हणाली, “देवाने माझ्या कृत्याचे मला बक्षीस दिले आहे कारण मी माझी दासी माझ्या नवऱ्याला दिली.” तेव्हा लेआने आपल्या मुलाचे नाव इस्साखार ठेवले.

¹⁹And conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,

¹⁹लेआ पुन्हा गरोदर राहिली व तिला सहावा मुलगा झाला.

²⁰and Leah saith, `God hath endowed me — a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;` and she calleth his name Zebulun;

²⁰ती म्हणाली, “देवाने मला उत्तम देणगी दिली आहे; आता मात्र माझा नवरा प्रेमाने माझा स्वीकार करील कारण मी त्याला सहा मुलगे दिले आहेत;” म्हणून लेआने त्याचे नाव जबुलून ठेवले.

²¹and afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.

²¹त्यानंतर लेआला एक मुलगी झाली; तिने तिचे नाव दीना ठेवले

²²And God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,

²²मग देवाने राहेलीची प्रार्थना ऐकली; देवाने तिला मुल होणे शक्य केले;

²³and she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;`

²³म्हणून राहेल गर्भवती झाली व तिला मुलगा झाला;

²⁴and she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.`

²⁴राहेल म्हणाली, “देवाने माझी लाजीरवाणी स्थिती दूर करुन मला मुलगा दिला आहे.” म्हणून राहेलीने त्याचे नाव योसेफ ठेवले.

²⁵And it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;

²⁵मग योसेफाच्या जन्मानंतर याकोब लाबानाला म्हणाला, “आता मला माझ्या स्वत:च्या घरी जाऊ द्या.

²⁶give up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou — thou hast known my service which I have served thee.`

²⁶मला माझ्या बायका व माझी मुले द्या; मी कष्टाने तुमची सेवाचाकरी करुन ती मिळवली आहेस, मी चौदा वर्षे तुमची चांगली सेवा केली आहे हे तुम्ही जाणता.”

²⁷And Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes — I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.`

²⁷लाबान म्हणाला, “थांब, तुझी इच्छा असेल तर मला थोडे बोलू दे. परमेश्वराने केवळ तुझ्यामुळे मला आशीर्वादित केले आहे हे मी जाणतो.

²⁸He saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.`

²⁸तर मी तुला काय वेतन देऊ हे मला सांग म्हणजे ते मी तुला देईन.”

²⁹And he saith unto him, `Thou — thou hast known that which I have served thee [in], and that which thy substance was with me;

²⁹याकोबाने उत्तर दिले, “मी अतिशय कष्टाने तुमची सेवाचाकारी केली आहे हे तुम्ही जाणता; आजपर्यंत मी काळजी घेतल्यामुळे तुमचे कळप वाढले आहेत व ते चांगले पोसलेले आहेत;

³⁰for [it is] little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?`

³⁰मी जेव्हा तुमच्याकडे आलो तेव्हा तुम्हापाशी फार थोडी शेरडेमेंढरे होती; परंतु आता तुम्हापाशी किती तरी कळप आहेत; ज्या ज्या वेळी मी तुमच्यासाठी काही केले त्या प्रत्येक वेळी परमेश्वराने तुम्हाला आशीर्वादित केले आहे. आता मात्र मी स्वत:साठी काही करण्याची व माझ्यासाठी घर बांधण्याची वेळ आली आहे.

³¹And he saith, `What do I give to thee?` And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;

³¹लाबानेने विचारले, “तर मग मी तुला काय देऊ?” याकोबाने उत्तर दिले, “तुम्ही मला काही द्यावे असे मला नको आहे. मला फक्त मी केलेल्या सेवाचाकरीचा मोबदला पाहिजे; एकढी एकच गोष्ट करा, म्हणजे मग मी पूर्वीप्रमाणे आपले कळप चारीन व सांभाळीन;

³²I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats — and it hath been my hire;

³²परंतु आजच मला तुमच्या सगळ्या कळपात जाऊ द्या म्हणजे त्यांच्यात फिरुन त्यातील मेंढरापैकी ठिबकेदार व पट्टे असलेली मेंढरे व बकरे आणि काळ्या रंगाची मेंढरे तसेच शेरडांपैकी ठिबकेदार व पट्टे असलेली शेरडे मी बाजूला करीन; हेच माझे वेतन असेल.

³³and my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; — every one which is not speckled and spotted among [my] goats, and brown among [my] lambs — it is stolen with me.`

³³त्यानंतर कधीही तुम्ही पाहाल तर मी प्रामाणिक आहे किंवा नाही हे सहज तुम्हाला दिसेल, तुम्ही कधीही येवून माझे कळप पाहू शकात; जर त्यात तुम्हाला ठिबकेदार व पट्टे नसलेली शेरडे व काळी नसलेली मेंढरे आढळली तर ती मी चोरली असे तुम्हाला समजेल.”

³⁴And Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;`

³⁴लाबानाने उत्तर दिले, “ठीक आहे, हे मी मान्य करतो; तू म्हणतोस तसे आपण करु;”

³⁵and he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that [hath] white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,

³⁵परंतु त्याच दिवशी लाबानाने ठिबकेदार व बांडे एडके तसेच ठिबकेदार व बांड्या शेळ्या आणि मेंढरापैकी काळी मेंढरे कळपातून काढून लपवली; गुपचूप ती आपल्या मुलांच्या हवाली केली व त्यांवर लक्ष ठेवून त्यांना सांभाळण्यास सांगितले;

³⁶and setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.

³⁶तेव्हा त्याच्या मुलांनी ती ठिबकेदार व पट्टे असलेली सर्व जनावरे घेऊन मजला करीत तीन दिवसांच्या अंतरावरील दुसऱ्या जागी नेली; याकोब मात्र मागे राहून उरलेली म्हणजे ठिबके पट्टे व काळी नसलेली जनावरे सांभाळीत राहिला.

³⁷And Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that [is] on the rods,

³⁷मग याकोबाने हिवर व बदाम या झाडांच्या हिरव्या कोवळ्या फांद्या कापून घेतल्या; त्याने त्यांच्या साली, त्याचे आतील पांढरे पट्टे दिसेपर्यंत त्या सोलून काढल्या;

³⁸and setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;

³⁸त्याने त्या पांढऱ्या काळ्या किंवा पांढरे फोक कळपांच्या समोर पाणी पिण्याच्या पन्हाळात व कुंड्यात ठेवले जेव्हा शेळ्या मेंढ्या पाणी पिण्यास तेथे येत तेव्हा त्यांच्यावर त्याचे नर उडत व त्या फळत

³⁹and the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.

³⁹तेव्हा त्यांना ठिबकेदार, पांढऱ्या पट्टयांची किंवा काळी करडे कोकरे होत असत.

⁴⁰And the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban`s flock.

⁴⁰याकोब कळपातील इतर जनावरातून ठिबकेदार, पांढऱ्या पट्टयांची व काळी करडे कोंकरे लाबानाच्या कळपापासून वेगळी करुन ठेवत असे.

⁴¹And it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,

⁴¹जेव्हा जेव्हा कळपातील चांगली पोसलेली जनावरे फळत असत तेव्हा तेव्हा याकोब त्या पांढऱ्या फांद्या त्यांच्या नजरे समोर ठेवी आणि मग ती जनावरे त्या फांद्या समोर फळत;

⁴²and when the flock is feeble, he doth not set [them]; and the feeble ones have been Laban`s, and the strong ones Jacob`s.

⁴²परंतु जेव्हा दुर्बल, अशक्त जनावरे फळत तेव्हा याकोब त्यांच्या नजरे समोर त्या झाडांच्या फांद्या ठेवत नसे; म्हणून मग अशक्त नरमाद्यापासून झालेली करडी कोंकरे लाबानाची होत; आणि सशक्त नरमाद्यापासून झालेली करडी कोंकरे लाबानाची होत;

⁴³And the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.

⁴³अशा प्रकारे याकोब अतिशय श्रीमंत झाला; त्याच्यापाशी शेरडेमेंढरे, उंट, गाढवे व दासदासी हे सर्व भरपूर होते.
