1Man, born of woman! Of few days, and full of trouble!
1ईयोब म्हणाला: “आपण सर्व मनुष्यप्राणी आहोत. आपले आयुष्य अगदी कमी आणि कष्टांनी भरलेले आहे.
2As a flower he hath gone forth, and is cut off, And he fleeth as a shadow and standeth not.
2माणसाचे आयुष्य फुलासारखे आहे. तो लवकर वाढतो आणि मरुन जातो. माणसाचे आयुष्य छायेसारखे आहे. ती थोडा वेळ असते आणि नंतर नाहीशी होते.
3Also — on this Thou hast opened Thine eyes, And dost bring me into judgment with Thee.
3ते खरे आहे पण देवा, माझ्याकडे एका माणसाकडे तू लक्ष देशील का? आणि तू माझ्याबरोबर न्यायालयात येशील का? आपण दोघेही आपापली मते मांडू या का?
4Who giveth a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
4“परंतु एखाद्या घाणेरड्या वस्तूचे स्वच्छ वस्तूशी काय साम्य असू शकते काहीच नाही.
5If determined are his days, The number of his months [are] with Thee, His limit Thou hast made, And he passeth not over;
5माणसाचे आयुष्य मर्यादित आहे देवा, माणसाने किती जगायचे ते तूच ठरवतोस. तूच त्याची मर्यादा निश्र्चित करतोस आणि ती कुणीही बदलू शकत नाही.
6Look away from off him that he may cease, Till he enjoy as an hireling his day.
6देवा, म्हणून तू आमच्यावर नजर ठेवणे बंद कर. आम्हाला एकटे सोड. आमची वेळ संपेपर्यंत आमचे हे कष्टप्रद आयुष्य आम्हाला भोगू दे.
7For there is of a tree hope, if it be cut down, That again it doth change, That its tender branch doth not cease.
7“वृक्षाला तोडून टाकले तरी त्याच्याबाबतीत आशा असते. ते पुन्हा वाढू शकते त्याला नवीन फांद्या फुटतच राहतात.
8If its root becometh old in the earth, And its stem doth die in the dust,
8त्याची मुळे जरी जमिनीत जुनी झाली आणि त्याचे खोड जमिनीत मरुन गेले.
9From the fragrance of water it doth flourish, And hath made a crop as a plant.
9तरी ते पाण्यामुळे पुन्हा जिवंत होते. आणि त्याला नवीन रोपासारख्या फांद्या फुटतात.
10And a man dieth, and becometh weak, And man expireth, and where [is] he?
10परंतु माणूस जेव्हा मरतो तेव्हा तो संपतो. माणूस मरतो तेव्हा तो कायमचा जातो.
11Waters have gone away from a sea, And a river becometh waste and dry.
11नद्या सुकून जाईपर्यंत तुम्ही समुद्रातील पाणी घेऊ शकता. तरीही माणूस मरुन जातो.
12And man hath lain down, and riseth not, Till the wearing out of the heavens they awake not, Nor are roused from their sleep.
12माणूस मरतो तेव्हा तो झोपतो आणि पुन्हा कधीही उठत नाही. आकाश नाहीसे होईपर्यंत मेलेला माणूस उठणार नाही. मनुष्यप्राणी त्या झोपेतून कधीच जागा होत नाही.
13O that in Sheol Thou wouldst conceal me, Hide me till the turning of Thine anger, Set for me a limit, and remember me.
13“तू मला माझ्या थडग्यात लपवावेस असे मला वाटते. तुझा राग निवळेपर्यंत तू मला तिथे लपवावेस. नंतर तू तुझ्या सोयीने माझी आठवण करु शकतोस.
14If a man dieth — doth he revive? All days of my warfare I wait, till my change come.
14मेलेला माणूस पुन्हा जिवंत होऊ शकतो का? मी माझी सुटका होईपर्यंत वाट बघत राहीन.
15Thou dost call, and I — I answer Thee; To the work of Thy hands Thou hast desire.
15देवा तू मला हाक मारशील आणि मी तुला उत्तर देईन. मग जे तू मला निर्माण केलेस तो मी तुला महत्वाचा वाटेन.
16But now, my steps Thou numberest, Thou dost not watch over my sin.
16तू माझी प्रत्येक हालचाल निरखशील. पण माझ्या पापांची तुला आठवण होणार नाही.
17Sealed up in a bag [is] my transgression, And Thou sewest up mine iniquity.
17तू माझी पापे एखाद्या पिशवीत बांधून ठेवावीस अंसे मला वाटते. ती पिशवी मोहोरबंद कर आणि फेकून दे.
18And yet, a falling mountain wasteth away, And a rock is removed from its place.
18“डोंगर पडतात आणि नष्ट होतात. मोठमोठे खडक फुटतात आणि त्यांच्या ठिकऱ्या होतात.
19Stones have waters worn away, Their outpourings wash away the dust of earth, And the hope of man Thou hast destroyed.
19खडकावरुन वाहणारे पाणी त्यांची झीज करते. पुरामुळे जमिनीवरची माती वाहून जाते. त्याचप्रमाणे देवा, तू माणसाची आशा नष्ट करतोस.
20Thou prevailest [over] him for ever, and he goeth, He is changing his countenance, And Thou sendest him away.
20तू त्याचा संपूर्ण पराभव करतोस आणि मग तू तेथून निघून जातोस. तू त्याला दु:खी करतोस आणि त्याला नेहमीसाठी मृत्यूलोकात पाठवून देतोस.
21Honoured are his sons, and he knoweth not; And they are little, and he attendeth not to them.
21त्यांच्या मुलांना मानसन्मान प्राप्त झाला तर ते त्याला कळत नाही. त्याच्या मुलांनी काही चुका केल्या तर त्या त्याला कधी दिसत नाहीत.
22Only — his flesh for him is pained, And his soul for him doth mourn.`
22त्या माणसाला फक्त त्याच्या स्वत:च्या शारीरिक दु:खाची जाणीव असते. आणि तो केवळ स्वत:साठीच रडतो.”
