¹And Job answereth and saith: —

¹मग ईयोब उत्तरा दाखल म्हणाला:

²Truly I have known that [it is] so, And what — is man righteous with God?

²“तू जे काही म्हणत आहेस ते खरे असल्याची जाणीव मला आहे, परंतु देवापुढे माणूस कसा बरोबर ठरेल?

³If he delight to strive with Him — He doth not answer him one of a thousand.

³मनुष्य देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. देव हजार प्रश्र्न विचारु शकतो आणि माणसाला त्याच्या एकाही प्रश्र्नाचे उत्तर देता येत नाही.

⁴Wise in heart and strong in power — Who hath hardened toward Him and is at peace?

⁴देव खूप विद्वान आहे आणि त्याची शक्ती अमर्याद आहे. देवाशी युध्द करु शकणारा माणूस जखमी झाल्याशिवाय कसा राहील?

⁵Who is removing mountains, And they have not known, Who hath overturned them in His anger.

⁵देव क्रोधित झाला की पर्वत हलवतो आणि लोकांना ते कळत देखील नाही.

⁶Who is shaking earth from its place, And its pillars move themselves.

⁶पृथ्वीचा थरकाप करण्यासाठी देव भूकंप पाठवतो. देव पृथ्वीचा पायाच हलवून टाकतो.

⁷Who is speaking to the sun, and it riseth not, And the stars He sealeth up.

⁷देव सूर्याशी बोलू शकतो आणि त्याला उगवू देत नाही. ताऱ्यांनी चमकू नये म्हणून देव त्यांना लपवू शकतो.

⁸Stretching out the heavens by Himself, And treading on the heights of the sea,

⁸देवाने एकट्याने आकाश निर्माण केले. तो सागराच्या लाटांवर चालतो.

⁹Making Osh, Kesil, and Kimah, And the inner chambers of the south.

⁹[This verse may not be a part of this translation]

¹⁰Doing great things till there is no searching, And wonderful, till there is no numbering.

¹⁰लोकांना न कळणाऱ्या आश्र्चर्यकारक गोष्टीही देवानेच निर्मिल्या. देवाच्या अद्भुत कृत्यांची सीमा नाही.

¹¹Lo, He goeth over by me, and I see not, And He passeth on, and I attend not to it.

¹¹देव जेव्हा माझ्या जवळून जातो तेव्हा मी त्याला बघू शकत नाही. तो जातो तरी त्याची महानता माझ्या लक्षात येत नाही.

¹²Lo, He snatches away, who bringeth it back? Who saith unto Him, `What dost Thou?`

¹²देवाने जरी काही घेतले तरी त्याला कोणीही अडवू शकत नाही. ‘तू काय करीत आहेस?’ असे त्याला कुणी विचारु शकत नाही.

¹³God doth not turn back His anger, Under Him bowed have proud helpers.

¹³देव त्याचा क्रोध काबूत ठेवणार नाही. राहाबाचे मदतनीससुध्दा देवाला घाबरतात.”

¹⁴How much less do I — I answer Him? Choose out my words with Him?

¹⁴म्हणून मी देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. त्याच्याशी काय बोलावे ते मला सुचणार नाही.

¹⁵Whom, though I were righteous, I answer not, For my judgment I make supplication.

¹⁵मी निष्याप आहे, पण मी त्याला उत्तर देऊ शकणार नाही. मी केवळ माझ्या देवाची कृपादृष्टी मिळावी म्हणून याचना करु शकतो.

¹⁶Though I had called and He answereth me, I do not believe that He giveth ear [to] my voice.

¹⁶मी हाक मारल्यानंतर त्याने ओ दिली तरी तो माझे ऐकतो यावर मी विश्वास ठेवणार नाही.

¹⁷Because with a tempest He bruiseth me, And hath multiplied my wounds for nought.

¹⁷देव मला चिरडण्यासाठी वादळे पाठवील. काहीही कारण नसताना तो मला जखमा देईल.

¹⁸He permitteth me not to refresh my spirit, But filleth me with bitter things.

¹⁸देव मला माझा श्वास परत घेऊ देणार नाही. तो मला अधिक कष्ट देईल.

¹⁹If of power, lo, the Strong One; And if of judgment — who doth convene me?

¹⁹मी देवाचा पराभव करु शकत नाही. तो सर्वशक्तिमान आहे. मी त्याला न्यायालयात खेचू शकत नाही आणि त्याला माझ्या बाबतीत न्यायी बनवू शकत नाही. देवाला न्यायालयात नेण्यासाठी बळांचा वापर कोण करेल?

²⁰If I be righteous, Mine mouth doth declare me wicked, Perfect I am! — it declareth me perverse.

²⁰मी निष्पाप असलो तरी, माझे बोलणेच मला अपराधी बनवते. मी निष्पाप आहे, पण मी बोलल्यावर माझे तोंडच मला अपराधी शाबीत करते.

²¹Perfect I am! — I know not my soul, I despise my life.

²¹मी निष्पाप आहे, पण काय विचार करावा ते मला कळत नाही. मी माझ्याच आयुष्याचा धिक्कार करतो.

²²It is the same thing, therefore I said, `The perfect and the wicked He is consuming.`

²²मी स्वत:शीच म्हणतो: ‘सगळ्याच्याच बाबतीत हे घडते. पापी लोकांसारखेच निष्पाप लोकही मरतात. देवच सगळ्यांचे जीवन संपवतो.’

²³If a scourge doth put to death suddenly, At the trial of the innocent He laugheth.

²³काही तरी भयानक घडते आणि निष्पाप माणूस मरतो तेव्हा देव त्याला फक्त हसतो का?

²⁴Earth hath been given Into the hand of the wicked one. The face of its judges he covereth, If not — where, who [is] he?

²⁴एखादा वाईट माणूस सत्ता बळकावतो तेव्हा देव पुढाऱ्यांना जे घडते आहे ते बघण्यापासून दूर ठेवतो का? हे जर खरे असेल तर देव म्हणजे आहे तरी कोण?

²⁵My days have been swifter than a runner, They have fled, they have not seen good,

²⁵“माझे दिवस एखाद्या धावपटू पेक्षाही वेगाने धावतात. माझे दिवस उडून जातात आणि त्यात सुखाचा लवलेशही नसतो.

²⁶They have passed on with ships of reed, As an eagle darteth on food.

²⁶भूर्जपत्रापासून बनवलेली जहाज जशी वेगात जाते तसे माझे दिवस वेगात सरतात. गरुडाने आपल्या भक्ष्यावर झडप घालावी त्या प्रमाणे माझे दिवस अतिशय वेगात जातात.

²⁷Though I say, `I forget my talking, I forsake my corner, and I brighten up!`

²⁷“मी जरी म्हणालो, ‘की मी तक्रार करणार नाही, माझे दु:ख विसरेन, मी चेहऱ्यावर हास्य आणेन.

²⁸I have been afraid of all my griefs, I have known that Thou dost not acquit me.

²⁸तरी त्यामुळे काहीही बदल होणार नाही. दु:खाचे मला अजूनही भय वाटते.

²⁹I — I am become wicked; why [is] this? [In] vain I labour.

²⁹मी आधीच अपराधी ठरवला गेलो आहे. मग प्रयत्न तरी कशाला करायचे? मी म्हणतो, ‘विसरुन जा सारे!’

³⁰If I have washed myself with snow-water, And purified with soap my hands,

³⁰मी माझे अंग बफर्ाने धुतले आणि हात साबणाने स्वच्छ केले.

³¹Then in corruption Thou dost dip me, And my garments have abominated me.

³¹तरीही देव मला घाणीच्या खड्ड्यात ढकलेल. नंतर माझे स्वत:चे कपडे देखील माझा तिरस्कार करतील.

³²But if a man like myself — I answer him, We come together into judgment.

³²देव माझ्यासारखा माणूस नाही. म्हणूनच मी त्याला उत्तर देऊ शकत नाही. आम्ही न्यायालयात एकमेकांना भेटू शकणार नाही.

³³If there were between us an umpire, He doth place his hand on us both.

³³दोन्ही बाजू ऐकून घेणारा कुणी मध्यस्थ असावा असे मला वाटते. मध्यस्थ आम्हा दोघांना सारख्याच न्यायाने तोलणारा असावा.

³⁴He doth turn aside from off me his rod, And His terror doth not make me afraid,

³⁴देवाच्या शिक्षेची छडी दूर करणारा कुणी असावा असे मला वाटते. त्यामुळे देव मला भीती घालू शकणार नाही.

³⁵I speak, and do not fear Him, But I am not right with myself.

³⁵नंतर देवाला न घाबरता मला जे काही म्हणायचे आहे ते मी म्हणू शकेन. परंतु आता मात्र मी तसे करु शकत नाही.
