1And in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar — Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother, tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene —

2Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests — there came a word of God unto John the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness,
2ਅਨਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਕਯਾਫ਼ਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ, ਉਜਾਡ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।
3and he came to all the region round the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of reformation — to remission of sins,

4as it hath been written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths;
4ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਨਬੀ ਦੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ: “ਉਜਾਡ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਹੋਕਾ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ: ‘ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਧਾ ਕਰੋ।
5every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straightness, and the rough become smooth ways;
5ਹਰ ਘਾਟੀ ਭਰੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਹਰ ਪਹਾਡ਼ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਬ੍ਬਾ ਪਧਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਟੇਢੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਧਿਆਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਤਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
6and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.`
6ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”‘ਯਸਾਯਾਹ 40:3-5
7Then said he to the multitudes coming forth to be baptised by him, `Brood of vipers! who did prompt you to flee from the coming wrath?
7ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਭੀਡ਼ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਆਈ ਸੀ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਨਾਗਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਰੋਪੀ ਤੋਂ ਭੱਜਣਾ ਕਿਸਨੇ ਦਸਿਆ?
8make, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have a father — Abraham; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to Abraham;
8ਤ੍ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਹਨ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਆਖੋ ‘ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ।’ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਾਲਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
9and already also the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree, therefore, not making good fruit is cut down, and to fire it is cast.`
9ਕੁਲਹਾਡ਼ਾ ਹੁਣ ਬਿਰਖ ਵੱਢਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹਡ਼ਾ ਵੀ ਬਿਰਖ ਚੰਗੇ ਫ਼ਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਢਕੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਟਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”
10And the multitudes were questioning him, saying, `What, then, shall we do?`
10ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ?”
11and he answering saith to them, `He having two coats — let him impart to him having none, and he having victuals — in like manner let him do.`
11ਉਸਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਜੇਕਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੋਲ ਦੋ ਕਮੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿਉ ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੋਜਨ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਿਉ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”
12And there came also tax-gatherers to be baptised, and they said unto him, `Teacher, what shall we do?`
12ਮਸੂਲੀਏ ਵੀ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ?”
13and he said unto them, `Exact no more than that directed you.`
13ਉਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਜਿੰਨੇ ਦਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਵਧ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।”
14And questioning him also were those warring, saying, `And we, what shall we do?` and he said unto them, `Do violence to no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.`
14ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ?” ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਜਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਸਾ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਕਿਸੇ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਲਾਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਲਵੋ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ ਰਹੋ।”
15And the people are looking forward, and all are reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether or not he may be the Christ;
15ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਮਸੀਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਡੀਕ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ “ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੋਵੇ।”
16John answered, saying to all, `I indeed with water do baptise you, but he cometh who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the latchet of his sandals — he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire;
16ਫ਼ਿਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਜਿਹਡ਼ਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਜੁਤੀ ਦਾ ਤਸਮਾ ਖੋਲਣ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ। ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
17whose winnowing shovel [is] in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather the wheat to his storehouse, and the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.`
17ਉਸਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਤੰਗਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਗਾਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਉਹ ਕਣਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਦਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੂਡ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਲੱਗ ਕਰਕੇ, ਉਸ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਹਡ਼ੀ ਕਿ ਕਦੇ ਬੁਝਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”
18And, therefore, indeed with many other things, exhorting, he was proclaiming good news to the people,
18ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ ਖਬਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ।
19and Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, and concerning all the evils that Herod did,
19ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਝਿਡ਼ਕਿਆ।
20added also this to all, that he shut up John in the prison.
20ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨੀ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ।
21And it came to pass, in all the people being baptised, Jesus also being baptised, and praying, the heaven was opened,
21ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ,
22and the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily appearance, as if a dove, upon him, and a voice came out of heaven, saying, `Thou art My Son — the Beloved, in thee I did delight.`
22ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਘੁੱਗੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੇਰ ਸੁਰਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਈ, “ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ।”
23And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, son of Joseph,

24the [son] of Eli, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Janna, the [son] of Joseph,

25the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Amos, the [son] of Naum, the [son] of Esli,
25ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਮਤਿੱਥਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਤਿਥ੍ਥਯਾਹ ਅਮੋਸ਼ ਦਾ। ਅਮੋਸ਼ ਨਹੂਮ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਹੂਮ ਹਸਲੀ ਦਾ।
26the [son] of Naggai, the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semei, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Juda,
26ਹਸਲੀ ਨਗ੍ਗਈ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ। ਅਤੇ ਨਗ੍ਗਈ ਮਾਹੱਥ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਹੱਥ ਮਤਿਥਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਮਤਿਥਯਾਹ ਸ਼ਿਮਈ ਦਾ। ਸ਼ਿਮਈ ਯੋਸੇਕ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਯੋਸੇਕ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
27the [son] of Joanna, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel,
27ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਰੇਸਹ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਸ਼ ਜ਼ਰੁੱਬਾਬਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੁੱਬਾਬਲ ਸ਼ਅਲਤੀਏਲ ਦਾ।
28the [son] of Neri, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Addi, the [son] of Cosam, the [son] of Elmodam, the [son] of Er,
28ਸ਼ਾਲਤੀਏਲ ਨੇਰੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਰੀ ਮਲਕੀ ਦਾ, ਮਲਕੀ ਅਦੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਦੀ ਕੋਸਾਮ ਦਾ। ਕੋਸਾਮ ਅਲਮੋਦਾਮ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਲਮੋਦਾਮ ਏਰ ਦਾ।
29the [son] of Jose, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat,

30the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Simeon, the [son] of Juda, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Jonan, the [son] of Eliakim,
30ਲੇਵੀ ਸਿਮਓਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਓਨ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦਾ। ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਯੋਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੋਨਾਨ ਅਲਯਾਕੀਮ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
31the [son] of Melea, the [son] of Mainan, the [son] of Mattatha, the [son] of Nathan,
31ਅਲਯਾਕੀਮ ਮਲ੍ਲਯੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਮਲ੍ਲਯੇ ਮੈਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨਾਨ ਮਤਥੇ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਮਤਥੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
32the [son] of David, the [son] of Jesse, the [son] of Obed, the [son] of Booz, the [son] of Salmon, the [son] of Nahshon,
32ਦਾਊਦ ਯੱਸੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਯੱਸੀ ਓਬੇਦ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਓਬੇਦ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਅਜ਼ ਸਲਮੋਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਲਮੋਨ ਨਹਸ਼ੋਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
33the [son] of Amminadab, the [son] of Aram, the [son] of Esrom, the [son] of Pharez,

36ਸ਼ਲਹ ਕੇਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਕੇਨਾਨ ਅਰਪਕਸ਼ਾਦ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸ਼ੇਮ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਸ਼ੇਮ ਨੂੰਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨੂੰਹ ਲਾਮਕ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।

37ਲਾਮਕ ਮਥੂਸਲਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਮਥੂਸਲਹ ਹਨੌਕ ਦਾ, ਹਨੌਕ ਯਰਦ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਰਦ ਮਹਲਲੇਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ, ਮਹਲਲੇਲ ਕੇਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।
