¹The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all they that know the truth;

¹Ang anciano alang sa señora nga pinili ug sa iyang mga anak, nga gihigugma ko diha sa kamatuoran; ug dili kay ako lamang, kondili ang tanan usab nga nakaila sa kamatuoran;

²for the truth's sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever:

²Tungod sa kamatuoran nga nagapabilin dinhi kanato ug kini magauban kanato sa walay katapusan:

³Grace, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

³Ang gracia, ang kalooy, ug ang pakigdait nga gikan sa Dios nga Amahan, ug gikan sa Ginoong Jesucristo, nga Anak sa Amahan, magauban kanato sa kamatuoran ug sa gugma.

⁴I rejoice greatly that I have found [certain] of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father.

⁴Nalipay ako ug daku gayud nga hingkaplagan ko nga may pipila sa imong mga anak nga nagalakaw sa kamatuoran, ingon sa sugo nga atong nadawat gikan sa Amahan.

⁵And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

⁵Ug karon nagapakilooy ako kanimo, señora, dili ingon nga nagasulat ako kanimo ug usa ka bag-ong sugo, kondili kadtong ato nga nabatonan sukad sa sinugdan, nga maghigugmaay kita ang usa ug usa.

⁶And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it.

⁶Ug kini mao ang gugma, nga pagagawion nato sumala sa iyang mga sugo. Kini mao ang sugo: nga maggawi kamo niini ingon sa hingdunggan ninyo sukad sa sinugdan.

⁷For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, [even] they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

⁷Kay daghang mga malimbongon nga nanungha sa kalibutan, nga wala sila magsugid nga si Jesucristo nagaanhi sulod sa unod. Mao kini ang malimbongon ug ang anticristo.

⁸Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward.

⁸Magmatngon kamo tungod sa inyong kaugalingon, aron dili ninyo pag-usikan ang mga butang nga atong gihagoan, kondili aron makadawat kamo sa tumbas nga hingpit.

⁹Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son.

⁹Bisan kinsa nga nagauna ug dili magapabilin diha sa pagtolon-an ni Cristo, siya wala magbaton sa Dios: siya nga nagapabilin diha sa pagtolon-an ni Cristo, anaa man kaniya ang Amahan ug ang Anak usab.

¹⁰If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into [your] house, and give him no greeting:

¹⁰Kong may moabut kaninyo ug wala magadala niini nga pagtolon-an, dili ninyo siya pagdawaton sa inyong balay, ayaw siya pangumostaha.

¹¹for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.

¹¹Kay ang magpangumosta kaniya, makaambit sa iyang mga buhat nga dautan.

¹²Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write them] with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be made full.

¹²Sanglit adunay daghang mga butang nga igasulat kaninyo, dili ako magsulat niini pinaagi sa papel ug sa tinta; kondili ginapaabut ko ang pag-anha kaninyo, ug pagpakigsulti sa inatubangay, aron ang inyong kalipay mamahingpit.

¹³The children of thine elect sister salute thee.

¹³Ang mga anak sa imong igsoong babaye nga pinili nangumosta kanimo.
