¹The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.

²Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

²Hinigugma, ginaampo ko nga magauswag ka sa tanang mga butang ug may maayong panglawas maingon nga nagauswag ang imong kalag.

³For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth.

³Kay nalipay ako ug daku, diha nga ang mga igsoon nangabut ug nagpamatuod sa imong kamatuoran, ingon nga nagalakat ka sa kamatuoran.

⁴Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

⁴Wala akoy kalipay nga labaw niini: ang pagpatalinghug nga ang akong mga anak nagalakat diha sa kamatuoran.

⁵Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and strangers withal;

⁵Hinigugma, nagabuhat ka sa matinumanon gayud sa tanan nga buhat, nga ginabuhat mo sa mga igsoon, ug sa mga dumuloong;

⁶who bare witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God:

⁶Nga nagpamatuod mahitungod sa imong gugma sa atubangan sa iglesia; nga maoy labing maayo nimong mabuhat ang pagpagikan kanila sa ilang panaw nga mahimong takus sa Dios.

⁷because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

⁷Kay tungod sa Ngalan, sila minglakat nga walay pagdawat bisan unsa gikan sa mga Gentil.

⁸We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth.

⁸Busa, kinahanglan kita magadawat kanila, aron mahimo kitang masigkamagbubuhat alang sa kamatuoran.

⁹I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

⁹May gisulat ako sa iglesia; apan si Diotrefes, nga nahagugma nga magbaton sa pagkapangulo sa taliwala nila, wala modawat kanamo.

¹⁰Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth [them] out of the church.

¹⁰Tungod niini, kong moabut ako, pagahinumduman ko ang iyang mga buhat nga gibuhat niya, nga nagayamyam sa dautang mga pulong batok kanamo; ug sa wala pa matagbaw niini, wala siya modawat sa mga igsoon, ug gipugngan niya ang mga buot modawat, ug sila gihinginlan niya sa iglesia.

¹¹Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

¹¹Hinigugma, dili mo pag-awaton ang dautan, kondili ang maayo. Ang nagabuhat ug maayo, iya sa Dios: apan ang nagabuhat ug dautan, dili makakita sa Dios.

¹²Demetrius hath the witness of all [men], and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness: and thou knowest that our witness is true.

¹²Si Demetrio adunay pagpamatuod gikan sa tanang mga tawo, ug gikan sa kamatuoran gayud; Oo, kami usab nagapamatuod, ug ikaw nahibalo nga ang among pagpamatuod matuod.

¹³I had many things to write unto thee, but I am unwilling to write [them] to thee with ink and pen:

¹³Ako may daghang mga butang nga igasulat unta kanimo apan dili ako buot nga kini igasulat kanimo sa tinta ug pluma;

¹⁴but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face.

¹⁴Apan ginapaabut ko ang pagpakigkita kanimo sa madali, ug magasinultihay kita sa nawong ug nawong. Ang pakigdait kanimo. Ang mga abyan nangumosta kanimo. Pangumostaha ang mga abyan sumala sa tagsatagsa nila ka ngalan.

¹⁵Peace [be] unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
