¹Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

²and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

³opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom, [said he,] I proclaim unto you, is the Christ.

⁴And some of them were persuaded, and consorted with Paul and Silas, and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

⁵But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people.

⁶And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

⁶Ug sa wala nila hikit-i sila, giguyod nila si Jason ug ang uban nga mga igsoon ngadto sa atubangan sa mga punoan sa ciudad, nga nagasinggit: Kining mga nagabalit-ad sa kalibutan, mianhi usab dinhi.

⁷whom Jason hath received: and these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, [one] Jesus.

⁷Nga gidawat ni Jason; ug kining tanan nagabuhat supak sa mga sugo ni Cesar, nga nagaingon nga adunay lain nga hari, usa nga si Jesus.

⁸And they troubled the multitude and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

⁹And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

⁹Ug sa nadawat nila ang pasalig ni Jason ug sa kauban, ilang gibuhian sila.

¹⁰And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

¹⁰Ug ang mga igsoon gilayon nagpadala kang Pablo ug kang Silas sa kagabhion ngadto sa Berea; nga sa pag-abut nila didto, mingsulod sila sa sinagoga sa mga Judio.

¹¹Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

¹¹Ug kini sila labi pang mabuot kay sa mga taga-Tesalonica, kay gidawat nila ang pulong sa bug-os nga kaabtik sa hunahuna, nga ginasusi nila sa matag-adlaw ang mga Kasulatan, kong matuod ba kining mga butanga.

¹²Many of them therefore believed; also of the Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few.

¹²Busa daghan kanila ang mingtoo; ingon man usab sa mga dungganang babaye nga Greciahanon, ug sa mga lalake, dili diyutay.

¹³But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed of Paul at Beroea also, they came thither likewise, stirring up and troubling the multitudes.

¹³Ug sa hingbaloan sa mga Judio sa Tesalonica, nga si Pablo nagmantala usab sa pulong sa Dios sa Berea sa maong pagkaagi, nangadto sila sa pagpagubot sa mga panon sa katawohan.

¹⁴And then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul to go as far as to the sea: and Silas and Timothy abode there still.

¹⁴Ug unya si Pablo gipagikan gilayon sa mga igsoon padulong sa dagat, ug napabilin didto si Silas ug si Timoteo.

¹⁵But they that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.

¹⁵Apan ang mga naghatud kang Pablo, nagdala kaniya hangtud sa Atenas; ug sa pagkadawat nila ug sugo alang kang Silas ug kang Timoteo, nga sila paadtoon kaniya sa labing madali, nanggikan sila.

¹⁶Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheld the city full of idols.

¹⁶Karon samtang si Pablo naghulat kanila sa Atenas, nasamok ang iyang espiritu sa sulod niya sa pagtan-aw niya nga ang ciudad napuno sa mga larawan.

¹⁷So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him.

¹⁷Busa nangatarungan siya sa mga Judio, ug sa mga maampoon didto sa sinagoga, ug didto sa tiyanggihan sa matag-adlaw uban niadtong mga nakigkita kaniya.

¹⁸And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

¹⁸Ug ang ubang mga filosopo nga mga Epicureo ug mga Estoico nagpakiglalis kaniya. Ug ang uban nagaingon: Unsa bay buot nga igasulti niining tabian? Ug ang uban: Siya daw nagamantala sa mga dumuloong nga mga dios. Kay iyang ginamantala kanila ang Maayong Balita ni Jesus ug ang pagkabanhaw.

¹⁹And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee?

¹⁹Ug siya gidala nila ug gihatud nila sa Areopago, nga nagaingon: Mahimo ba nga kami magpakisayud kong unsa kining bag-ong pagtolon-an nga imong ginasulti?

²⁰For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

²⁰Kay nagadala ka sa among igdulungog ug laing mga butang nga katingalahan; busa buot unta namo hisayran kong unsa ang kahulogan niining mga butanga.

²¹(Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

²¹(Karon ang tanang mga taga-Atenas ug ang mga pumoluyo nga dumuloong, nagagamit sa ilang panahon sa walay lain, kondili ang pagsulti, kun, pagpatalinghug sa ubang bag-ong butang.

²²And Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Ye men of Athens, in all things, I perceive that ye are very religious.

²²Ug si Pablo mitindog sa taliwala sa Areopago, ug miingon: Mga tawo nga Atenasnon, himatngonan ko nga sa tanang mga butang kamo maampoon da kaayo.

²³For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore ye worship in ignorance, this I set forth unto you.

²³Kay sa giagian ug gipaniiran ko ang inyong mga ginasimba, hingkit-an ko usab ang usa ka halaran nga sinulatan niini: Alang SA USA KA DIOS NGA WALA HI-ILHI. Busa kadtong ginasimba nga wala ninyo hiilhi, mao kini ang ginamantala ko kaninyo.

²⁴The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

²⁴Ang Dios nga nagbuhat sa kalibutan, ug sa tanan nga mga butang nga anaa niini, siya, tungod kay siya Ginoo sa langit ug sa yuta, wala magpuyo sa mga templo nga binuhat sa mga kamot.

²⁵neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

²⁵Dili usab siya pagaalagaran sa mga kamot sa mga tawo, ingon sa nagkinahanglan pa siya sa bisan unsang butang, sa nakita nga siya gayud ang nagahatag sa tanan sa kinabuhi, ug sa gininhawa, ug sa tanang mga butang.

²⁶and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined [their] appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation;

²⁶Ug sa usa gibuhat niya ang tanan nga nasud sa katawohan aron sa pagpuyo sa tibook, nga nawong sa yuta; ug kanila gitagana nga daan ang pagpasunodsunod sa mga panahon, ug ang mga utlanan sa ilang puloy-anan;

²⁷that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us:

²⁷Aron pagapangitaon nila ang Dios, basin da nga mahikapan siya ug ilang hikit-an siya; bisan dili siya halayo sa tagsatagsa kanato.

²⁸for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

²⁸Kay kaniya nabuhi kita, ug nagalihok kita, ug nagabaton sa atong pagkamao; sumala usab sa giingon sa uban sa inyong kaugalingong mga magbabalak: Kay kaliwat usab kita niya.

²⁹Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man.

²⁹Busa kay kita kaliwat sa Dios, dili angay nga maghunahuna kita nga ang pagkadios sama sa bulawan, kun sa salapi kun sa bato, nga kinulit tungod sa kabatid ug paglalang sa mga tawo.

³⁰The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent:

³⁰Busa gisayloan sa Dios ang panahon sa pagkaburong, apan karon siya nagasugo sa mga tawo sa tanang dapit, nga maghinulsol sila.

³¹inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

³¹Ingon nga may gitagal siya nga usa ka adlaw, nga iyang paghukman ang kalibutan sa katarungan, pinaagi niadtong tawo nga iyang gitiman-an; nga iyang gihatag ang pasalig sa tanang mga tawo sa pagkaagi nga siya nagbanhaw kaniya gikan sa mga minatay.

³²Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We will hear thee concerning this yet again.

³²Karon sa pagkadungog nila mahitungod sa pagkabanhaw sa mga minatay, ang uban nagyubit; apan ang uban nanag-ingon: Pagapatalinghugan kanamo pag-usab mahatungod niini.

³³Thus Paul went out from among them.

³³Busa si Pablo mipahawa gikan sa ilang taliwala.

³⁴But certain men clave unto him, and believed: among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

³⁴Apan may mga tawo nga ming-uyon kaniya ug mingtoo; uban kanila usab si Dionisio nga Areopagohanon, ug usa ka babaye nga ginganlan si Damaris, ug may mga uban pa nga kauban nila.
