¹Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the [powers] that be are ordained of God.

¹Kinahanglan ang tanan nga kalag pasakup ninyo sa mga labawng kagamhanan; kay walay gahum nga dili gikan sa Dios; ug ang mga kagamhanan karon, gitukod sa Dios.

²Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment.

²Busa ang nagabatok sa kagamhanan, nagabatok sa ginapatuman sa Dios. Ug ang mga nagabatok kaniya, magadawat ug hukom sa silot sa ilang kaugalingon.

³For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same:

³Kay ang mga punoan dili angay kahadlokan sa mga nagabuhat ug maayo, kondili sa mga dautan. Busa buot ka ba nga dili magakahadlok sa kagamhanan? Buhata ang maayo, ug magadawat ka ug pagdayeg gikan niini:

⁴for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil.

⁴Kay siya alagad sa Dios alang sa imong kaayohan; apan kong magbuhat ka ug dautan, magkahadlok ka; kay ang pagdala niya sa espada dili sa walay pulos; kay alagad siya sa Dios, ang magpapanimalos nga sa kaligutgut batok niadtong nagabuhat ug dautan.

⁵Wherefore [ye] must needs be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake.

⁵Tungod niini, kinahanglan nga magpasakup kamo, dili lamang tungod sa kaligutgut, kondili tungod usab sa kaisipan.

⁶For this cause ye pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God's service, attending continually upon this very thing.

⁶Kay tungod niini nga hinungdan magabayad usab kamo ug buhis; kay mga alagad sila sa Dios, nga nanagsingkamot gihapon niini nga tuyo.

⁷Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

⁷Panghatag kamo sa tanan nga gipabayran nila: ang buhis, maghatag ug buhis sa angay hatagan sa buhis; sa alcabala, magbayad sa angay pagabayran; magkahadlok, sa angay kahadlokan, ug magtahud, sa angay pagatahuron.

⁸Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the law.

⁸Dili kamo mangutang sa bisan unsa kang bisan kinsa, gawas sa paghigug maay sa usa ug usa; kay ang nahigugma sa iyang isigkatawo, nagtuman sa Kasugoan.

⁹For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

⁹Kay kini: Dili ka manapaw; dili ka magpatay; dili ka mangawat; dili ka magbakak; dili ka maibug; ug kong may uban pa nga laing sugo, ania natingub niini nga mga pulong, nga mao: Higugmaon mo ang imong isigkatawo ingon sa imong kaugalingon.

¹⁰Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfilment of the law.

¹⁰Ang gugma walay pagbuhat ug dautan sa isigkatawo; busa ang gugma mao ang katumanan sa Kasugoan.

¹¹And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep: for now is salvation nearer to us than when we [first] believed.

¹¹Ug kini, sa hingsayran ang panahon, nga takna na gayud nga igmamata ninyo gikan sa pagkatulog; kay karon ang atong kaluwasan haduol na kay sa sinugdan sa atong pagtoo.

¹²The night is far spent, and the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

¹²Ang kagabhion miagi na, ug nag-singabut na ang adlaw. Busa isalikway ta ang mga buhat sa kangitngit, ug isul-ob ta ang mga hinagiban sa kahayag.

¹³Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy.

¹³Magkinabuhi kita sa kaugdang, ingon nga sa adlaw; dili sa kaulit ug bisan sa paghuboghubog; dili sa kaulag, ug sa kalaw-ayan; dili sa pagkabahinbahin, bisan sa pangabugho.

¹⁴But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

¹⁴Kondili isul-ob ninyo ang Ginoong Jesucristo, ug dili kamo managtagana alang sa unod sa pagtagbaw sa mga kailibgon niini.
