1Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and [such] we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1 Gwelwch pa fath gariad y mae'r Tad wedi ei ddangos tuag atom: cawsom ein galw yn blant Duw, a dyna ydym. Y rheswm nad yw'r byd yn ein hadnabod ni yw nad oedd yn ei adnabod ef.
2Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is.
2 Gyfeillion annwyl, yn awr yr ydym yn blant Duw, ac nid amlygwyd eto beth a fyddwn. Yr ydym yn gwybod, pan fydd ef yn ymddangos, y byddwn yn debyg iddo, oherwydd cawn ei weld ef fel y mae.
3And every one that hath this hope [set] on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3 Ac y mae pob un y mae'r gobaith hwn ganddo, yn ei buro ei hun, fel y mae Crist yn bur.
4Every one that doeth sin doeth also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
4 Y mae pob un sy'n cyflawni pechod yn gwneud anghyfraith hefyd; anghyfraith yw pechod.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away sins; and in him is no sin.
5 Yr ydych yn gwybod bod Crist wedi ymddangos er mwyn cymryd ymaith bechodau; ac ynddo ef nid oes pechod.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither knoweth him.
6 Nid oes neb sy'n aros ynddo ef yn pechu; nid yw'r sawl sy'n pechu wedi ei weld ef na'i adnabod ef.
7[My] little children, let no man lead you astray: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous:
7 Blant, peidiwch � gadael i neb eich arwain ar gyfeiliorn. Y mae'r sawl sy'n gwneud cyfiawnder yn gyfiawn, fel y mae ef yn gyfiawn.
8he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
8 o'r diafol y mae'r sawl sy'n cyflawni pechod, oherwydd y mae'r diafol yn pechu o'r dechreuad. I ddinistrio gweithredoedd y diafol yr ymddangosodd Mab Duw.
9Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.
9 Nid oes neb sydd wedi ei eni o Dduw yn cyflawni pechod, oherwydd y mae had Duw yn aros ynddo; ac ni all bechu, oherwydd ei fod wedi ei eni o Dduw.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
10 Dyma sut y mae'n amlwg pwy yw plant Duw a phwy yw plant y diafol: pob un nad yw'n gwneud cyfiawnder, nid yw o Dduw, na'r hwn nad yw'n caru ei gydaelod.
11For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:
11 Oherwydd hon yw'r genadwri a glywsoch chwi o'r dechrau: ein bod i garu ein gilydd.
12not as Cain was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
12 Nid fel Cain, a oedd o'r Un drwg ac a laddodd ei frawd. A pham y lladdodd ef? Oherwydd fod ei weithredoedd ef yn ddrwg, a gweithredoedd ei frawd yn gyfiawn.
13Marvel not, brethren, if the world hateth you.
13 Peidiwch � synnu, gyfeillion, os yw'r byd yn eich cas�u chwi.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death.
14 Yr ydym ni'n gwybod ein bod wedi croesi o farwolaeth i fywyd, am ein bod yn caru ein cydaelodau; y mae'r sawl nad yw'n caru yn aros mewn marwolaeth.
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
15 Llofrudd yw pob un sy'n cas�u ei gydaelod, ac yr ydych yn gwybod nad oes gan unrhyw lofrudd fywyd tragwyddol yn aros ynddo.
16Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
16 Dyma sut yr ydym yn gwybod beth yw cariad: am iddo ef roi ei einioes drosom ni. Ac fe ddylem ninnau roi ein heinioes dros ein cydaelodau.
17But whoso hath the world's goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?
17 Pwy bynnag sydd � meddiannau'r byd ganddo, ac yn gweld ei gydaelod mewn angen, ac eto'n cau ei galon yn ei erbyn, sut y mae cariad Duw yn aros ynddo?
18[My] Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.
18 Fy mhlant, gadewch inni garu, nid ar air nac ar dafod ond mewn gweithred a gwirionedd.
19Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him:
19 Dyma sut y cawn wybod ein bod o'r gwirionedd, a sicrhau ein calonnau yn ei u373?ydd ef
20because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
20 pryd bynnag y bydd ein calon yn ein condemnio; oherwydd y mae Duw yn fwy na'n calon, ac y mae'n gwybod pob peth.
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God;
21 Gyfeillion annwyl, os nad yw'n calon yn ein condemnio, y mae gennym hyder gerbron Duw,
22and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
22 ac yr ydym yn derbyn ganddo ef bob dim yr ydym yn gofyn amdano, am ein bod yn cadw ei orchmynion ac yn gwneud y pethau sydd wrth ei fodd.
23And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.
23 Dyma ei orchymyn: ein bod i gredu yn enw ei Fab ef, Iesu Grist, a charu'n gilydd, yn union fel y rhoddodd ef orchymyn inni.
24And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
24 Y mae'r sawl sy'n cadw ei orchmynion ef yn aros ynddo ef, ac ef ynddo yntau. Dyma sut yr ydym yn gwybod ei fod ef yn aros ynom ni: trwy'r Ysbryd a roddodd ef inni.
