¹Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

²The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

²Episkopo do devas esti neriprocxebla, edzo de unu edzino, sobra, moderema, ordema, gastama, instruema,

³no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;

³ne vindrinkema, ne batema; sed mildanima, ne disputema, ne monamanto;

⁴one that ruleth well his own house, having [his] children in subjection with all gravity;

⁴reganta bone sian propran domanaron, tenante siajn gefilojn sub regado kun cxia seriozeco

⁵(but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

⁵(sed se iu ne scias regi sian propran domon, kiel li zorgos pri la eklezio de Dio?);

⁶not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

⁶ne novico, por ke li ne sxvelu per fiereco kaj ne falu en la kondamnon de la diablo.

⁷Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

⁷Krom tio li devas havi bonan ateston de la eksteruloj, por ke li ne falu en riprocxon kaj kaptilon de la diablo.

⁸Deacons in like manner [must be] grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

⁸Tiel same diakonoj devas esti seriozaj, ne duflanke parolantaj, ne tro amantaj vinon, ne avidantaj malhonoran gajnon;

⁹holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

⁹tenantaj la misteron de la fido en pura konscienco.

¹⁰And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.

¹⁰Kaj tiuj ankaux estu unue provitaj; poste ili servu kiel diakonoj, se ili estos neriprocxeblaj.

¹¹Women in like manner [must be] grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹¹Virinoj ankaux devas esti seriozaj, ne kalumniantoj, sobraj, fidelaj pri cxio.

¹²Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling [their] children and their own houses well.

¹²La diakonoj estu edzoj de po unu edzino, regantaj bone siajn gefilojn kaj siajn proprajn domojn.

¹³For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹³CXar tiuj, kiuj bone servadis kiel diakonoj, akiras al si bonan gradon kaj grandan kuragxon en la fido, kiu estas en Kristo Jesuo.

¹⁴These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly;

¹⁴CXi tion mi skribas al vi, esperante veni al vi baldaux,

¹⁵but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

¹⁵sed se mi prokrastos, por ke vi komprenu, kiel oni devas konduti en la domo de Dio, kiu estas la eklezio de la vivanta Dio, la kolono kaj bazo de la vero.

¹⁶And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.

¹⁶Kaj laux konsento, granda estas la mistero de pieco:Tiu, kiu elmontrigxis en la karno, pravigxis en la spirito, estis vidita de angxeloj, pripredikita cxe la nacioj, prikredita en la mondo, prenita supren en gloro.
