¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

¹Aga vilistid sõdisid Iisraeli vastu; ja Iisraeli mehed põgenesid vilistite eest ning langesid mahalööduina Gilboa mäele.

²And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

²Ja vilistid ajasid taga Sauli ja tema poegi, ja vilistid lõid maha Joonatani, Abinaadabi ja Malkisuua, Sauli pojad.

³And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

³Ja taplus Sauli vastu oli raske; kui ammukütid tema leidsid, siis nad haavasid teda raskelt.

⁴Then said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

⁴Ja Saul ütles oma sõjariistade kandjale: 'Tõmba oma mõõk välja ja pista mind sellega läbi, et need ümberlõikamatud ei tuleks ega teeks minuga nurjatust!' Aga tema sõjariistade kandja ei tahtnud seda teha, sest ta kartis väga. Siis võttis Saul ise mõõga ja kukutas ennast selle otsa.

⁵And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

⁵Ja kui tema sõjariistade kandja nägi, et Saul oli surnud, siis kukutas ka tema ennast mõõga otsa ja suri.

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

⁶Nõnda surid Saul ja tema kolm poega ja kogu ta sugu; nad surid ühekorraga.

⁷And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁷Kui kõik orus olevad Iisraeli mehed nägid, et põgeneti ja et Saul ja tema pojad olid surnud, siis jätsid nad oma linnad maha ja põgenesid, ja vilistid tulid ning asusid neisse.

⁸And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁸Ja kui vilistid teisel päeval tulid mahalööduid paljaks riisuma, siis leidsid nad Sauli ja tema pojad langenuina Gilboa mäel.

⁹And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

⁹Ja nad riisusid ta paljaks ja võtsid ta pea ja ta sõjariistad ning läkitasid neid ringi mööda vilistite maad, kuulutama rõõmusõnumit oma ebajumalaile ja rahvale.

¹⁰And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

¹⁰Ja nad panid tema sõjariistad oma jumalate kotta, aga tema pealuu nad lõid Daagoni koja külge.

¹¹And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹¹Kui kogu Gileadi Jaabes kuulis kõike seda, mida vilistid Sauliga olid teinud,

¹²all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹²siis nad tõusid, kõik vahvad mehed, võtsid Sauli laiba ja tema poegade laibad ning tõid need Jaabesisse. Nad matsid nende luud tamme alla Jaabesis ja paastusid seitse päeva.

¹³So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire [thereby],

¹³Nõnda suri Saul oma truudusetuse pärast, mida ta oli osutanud Issanda vastu, sellepärast et ta ei olnud tähele pannud Issanda sõna, samuti sellepärast, et ta oli nõu küsinud surnu vaimult

¹⁴and inquired not of Jehovah: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴ega olnud nõu küsinud Issandalt. Seepärast laskis ta tema surra ja andis kuningriigi Taavetile, Iisai pojale.
