1Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you.

2Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
2Teie rikkus on pehkinud ja teie rõivad koitanud,
3Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last days.
3teie kuld ja hõbe on roostes ning nende rooste saab tunnistuseks teie vastu ja sööb teie liha nagu tuli. Te olete kogunud tagavara viimseil päevil.
4Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
4Vaata, tööliste palk, mille te olete jätnud oma põldudel lõikajatele maksmata, kisendab, ja viljakoristajate karjed on tunginud vägede Issanda kõrvu.
5Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter.
5Te olete priisanud ja prassinud maa peal, nuumanud end tapapäeval,
6Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous [one]; he doth not resist you.
6te olete hukka mõistnud õige ja ta mõrvanud. Tema ju ei hakka teile vastu.
7Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.
7Olge nüüd pika meelega, vennad, Issanda tulemiseni! Vaata, põllumees ootab kallist põlluvilja pika meelega, kuni ta saab varase ja hilise vihma.
8Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
8Olge siis teiegi pika meelega, kinnitage oma südant, sest Issanda tulemine on lähedal!
9Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors.
9Vennad, ärge nurisege üksteise vastu, et teie üle ei mõistetaks kohut! Vaata, kohtunik seisab ukse ees!
10Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord.
10Vennad, võtke prohveteid, kes on rääkinud Issanda nimel, kurja kannatamise ja pika meele eeskujuks.
11Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful.
11Vaata, me kiidame õndsaks kannatlikke. Te olete kuulnud Iiobi kannatlikkusest ja näinud Issanda antud elulõppu, sest Issand on halastav ja armuline.
12But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not under judgment.
12Aga ennekõike, mu vennad, ärge vanduge ei taeva ega maa juures ega mingit muud vannet. Teie 'jah' olgu 'jah' ja 'ei' olgu 'ei', et te ei langeks kohtu alla.
13Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise.
13Kui keegi teie seast kannatab kurja, siis ta palvetagu! Kui kellelgi on hea meel, siis ta laulgu tänulaule!
14Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
14Kui keegi teie seast on haige, siis ta kutsugu kogudusevanemad enese juurde ja need palvetagu tema kohal teda õliga võides Issanda nimel.
15and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.
15Ja usupalve päästab tõbise ja Issand tõstab ta üles, ja kui ta on pattu teinud, siis antakse talle andeks.
16Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.
16Tunnistage siis üksteisele patud üles ja palvetage üksteise eest, et te saaksite terveks! Õige inimese mõjuvõimas eestpalve saadab palju korda.
17Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.
17Eelija oli meiesugune inimene, ent ta palvetas püsivalt, et ei sajaks vihma, ning kolm aastat ja kuus kuud ei sadanud piiskagi vihma maa peale.
18And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
18Siis ta palvetas taas ja taevas andis vihma ning maa laskis tärgata oma viljal.
19My brethren, if any among you err from the truth, and one convert him;
19Mu vennad, kui keegi teist on ära eksinud tõest ning keegi pöörab ta tagasi,
20let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.
20siis ta teadku: see, kes patuse pöörab ta eksiteelt, päästab tema hinge surmast ja katab kinni pattude hulga.
