1My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1Mes petits enfants, je vous écris ces choses, afin que vous ne péchiez point. Et si quelqu'un a péché, nous avons un avocat auprès du Père, Jésus-Christ le juste.
1בני הנני כתב אליכם את זאת לבלתי תחטאו ואם יחטא איש יש לנו מליץ לפני אבינו ישוע המשיח הצדיק׃
2and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
2Il est lui-même une victime expiatoire pour nos péchés, non seulement pour les nôtres, mais aussi pour ceux du monde entier.
2והוא כפרה על חטאתינו ולא על חטאתינו לבד כי גם על חטאת כל העולם׃
3And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
3Si nous gardons ses commandements, par là nous savons que nous l'avons connu.
3ובזאת נדע כי הכרנו אותו אם נשמר את מצותיו׃
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
4Celui qui dit: Je l'ai connu, et qui ne garde pas ses commandements, est un menteur, et la vérité n'est point en lui.
4האמר הכרתיו ואת מצותיו לא ישמר כזב הוא והאמת אין בו׃
5but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him:
5Mais celui qui garde sa parole, l'amour de Dieu est véritablement parfait en lui: par là nous savons que nous sommes en lui.
5אבל השמר את דברו בו נשלמה באמת אהבת אלהים ובזאת נדע כי בו אנחנו׃
6he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.
6Celui qui dit qu'il demeure en lui doit marcher aussi comme il a marché lui-même.
6האמר כי בו יעמד עליו להתהלך בדרך אשר גם הוא הלך׃
7Beloved, no new commandment write I unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: the old commandment is the word which ye heard.
7Bien-aimés, ce n'est pas un commandement nouveau que je vous écris, mais un commandement ancien que vous avez eu dès le commencement; ce commandement ancien, c'est la parole que vous avez entendue.
7אחי אינני כתב לכם מצוה חדשה כי אם מצוה ישנה אשר היתה לכם מראש והמצוה הישנה היא הדבר אשר שמעתם מראש׃
8Again, a new commandment write I unto you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shineth.
8Toutefois, c'est un commandement nouveau que je vous écris, ce qui est vrai en lui et en vous, car les ténèbres se dissipent et la lumière véritable paraît déjà.
8ועוד מצוה חדשה אני כתב לכם אשר היא אמת גם בו גם בכם כי החשך עבר והאור האמתי כבר זורח׃
9He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother, is in the darkness even until now.
9Celui qui dit qu'il est dans la lumière, et qui hait son frère, est encore dans les ténèbres.
9האומר כי ישנו באור והוא שנא את אחיו עודנו בחשך׃
10He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.
10Celui qui aime son frère demeure dans la lumière, et aucune occasion de chute n'est en lui.
10האהב את אחיו יעמד באור ומכשול אין בו׃
11But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.
11Mais celui qui hait son frère est dans les ténèbres, il marche dans les ténèbres, et il ne sait où il va, parce que les ténèbres ont aveuglé ses yeux.
11והשנא את אחיו בחשך הוא ובחשך יתהלך ולא ידע אנה הוא הלך כי החשך עור את עיניו׃
12I write unto you, [my] little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
12Je vous écris, petits enfants, parce que vos péchés vous sont pardonnés à cause de son nom.
12הנני כתב אליכם הבנים יען כי נסלחו לכם חטאתיכם למען שמו׃
13I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father.
13Je vous écris, pères, parce que vous avez connu celui qui est dès le commencement. Je vous écris, jeunes gens, parce que vous avez vaincu le malin. Je vous ai écrit, petits enfants, parce que vous avez connu le Père.
13כתב אני אליכם האבות יען כי הכרתם אתו אשר הוא מראש כתב אני אליכם הבחורים יען כי התגברתם על הרע כתב אני אליכם הילדים יען כי הכרתם את האב׃
14I have written unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the evil one.
14Je vous ai écrit, pères, parce que vous avez connu celui qui est dès le commencement. Je vous ai écrit, jeunes gens, parce que vous êtes forts, et que la parole de Dieu demeure en vous, et que vous avez vaincu le malin.
14כתבתי אליכם האבות יען כי הכרתם אתו אשר הוא מראש כתבתי אליכם הבחורים יען כי חזקתם ודבר האלהים שכן בקרבכם והתגברתם על הרע׃
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
15N'aimez point le monde, ni les choses qui sont dans le monde. Si quelqu'un aime le monde, l'amour du Père n'est point en lui;
15אל תאהבו את החלד ואת דברי החלד אם יאהב איש את החלד אין בו אהבת האב׃
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
16car tout ce qui est dans le monde, la convoitise de la chair, la convoitise des yeux, et l'orgueil de la vie, ne vient point du Père, mais vient du monde.
16כי כל אשר בחלד תאות הבשר ותאות העינים וגאות ההון איננו מן אבינו כי אם מן החלד׃
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
17Et le monde passe, et sa convoitise aussi; mais celui qui fait la volonté de Dieu demeure éternellement.
17והחלד עבור יעבר עם תאותיו והעשה רצון אלהים יעמד לעד׃
18Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour.
18Petits enfants, c'est la dernière heure, et comme vous avez appris qu'un antéchrist vient, il y a maintenant plusieurs antéchrists: par là nous connaissons que c'est la dernière heure.
18ילדי הנה השעה האחרונה באה וכאשר שמעתם כי יבא צר המשיח כן עתה רבו צרי המשיח ובזאת נדע כי היא השעה האחרונה׃
19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest that they all are not of us.
19Ils sont sortis du milieu de nous, mais ils n'étaient pas des nôtres; car s'ils eussent été des nôtres, ils seraient demeurés avec nous, mais cela est arrivé afin qu'il fût manifeste que tous ne sont pas des nôtres.
19מאתנו יצאו אך לא משלנו היו כי אלו היו משלנו כי אז היו עמדים עמנו אבל למען יגלו כי לא כלם משלנו המה׃
20And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all the things.
20Pour vous, vous avez reçu l'onction de la part de celui qui est saint, et vous avez tous de la connaissance.
20ואתם המשחה לכם מאת הקדוש וידעתם הכל׃
21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
21Je vous ai écrit, non que vous ne connaissiez pas la vérité, mais parce que vous la connaissez, et parce qu'aucun mensonge ne vient de la vérité.
21לא כתבתי אליכם יען כי לא ידעתם את האמת אך יען כי ידעתם אתה ואשר כל כזב איננו מן האמת׃
22Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, [even] he that denieth the Father and the Son.
22Qui est menteur, sinon celui qui nie que Jésus est le Christ? Celui-là est l'antéchrist, qui nie le Père et le Fils.
22מי הוא הכזב אם לא המכחש בישוע לאמר כי איננו המשיח זה הוא צר המשיח המכחש באב ובבן׃
23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also.
23Quiconque nie le Fils n'a pas non plus le Père; quiconque confesse le Fils a aussi le Père.
23כל המכחש בבן גם האב אין לו׃
24As for you, let that abide in you which ye heard from the beginning. If that which ye heard from the beginning abide in you, ye also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father.
24Que ce que vous avez entendu dès le commencement demeure en vous. Si ce que vous avez entendu dès le commencement demeure en vous, vous demeurerez aussi dans le Fils et dans le Père.
24ואתם יקם נא בכם הדבר אשר שמעתם מראש ואם יקום בכם אשר שמעתם מראש אז גם אתם תקומו בבן ובאב׃
25And this is the promise which he promised us, [even] the life eternal.
25Et la promesse qu'il nous a faite, c'est la vie éternelle.
25וההבטחה אשר הבטיחנו היא חיי עולמים׃
26These things have I written unto you concerning them that would lead you astray.
26Je vous ai écrit ces choses au sujet de ceux qui vous égarent.
26זאת כתבתי אליכם מפני המתעים אתכם׃
27And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you; concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.
27Pour vous, l'onction que vous avez reçue de lui demeure en vous, et vous n'avez pas besoin qu'on vous enseigne; mais comme son onction vous enseigne toutes choses, et qu'elle est véritable et qu'elle n'est point un mensonge, demeurez en lui selon les enseignements qu'elle vous a donnés.
27ואתם המשחה אשר קבלתם מאתו עמדת בכם ולא תצטרכו לאיש אשר ילמדכם כי אם כאשר תלמד אתכם המשחה בכל דבר היא האמת ואיננה כזב וכאשר למדה אתכם כן תעמדו בו׃
28And now, [my] little children, abide in him; that, if he shall be manifested, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
28Et maintenant, petits enfants, demeurez en lui, afin que, lorsqu'il paraîtra, nous ayons de l'assurance, et qu'à son avènement nous ne soyons pas confus et éloignés de lui.
28ועתה בנים עמדו בו למען יאמץ לבנו בהראותו ולא נבוש מפניו בבואו׃
29If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness is begotten of him.
29Si vous savez qu'il est juste, reconnaissez que quiconque pratique la justice est né de lui.
29אם ידעתם כי צדיק הוא דעו כי כל עשה צדקה נולד ממנו׃
