¹At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

¹Dans ce temps-là, Abija, fils de Jéroboam, devint malade.

²And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who spake concerning me that I should be king over this people.

²Et Jéroboam dit à sa femme: Lève-toi, je te prie, et déguise-toi pour qu'on ne sache pas que tu es la femme de Jéroboam, et va à Silo. Voici, là est Achija, le prophète; c'est lui qui m'a dit que je serais roi de ce peuple.

²ויאמר ירבעם לאשתו קומי נא והשתנית ולא ידעו כי אתי אשת ירבעם והלכת שלה הנה שם אחיה הנביא הוא דבר עלי למלך על העם הזה׃

³And take with thee ten loaves, and cakes, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he will tell thee what shall become of the child.

³Prends avec toi dix pains, des gâteaux et un vase de miel, et entre chez lui; il te dira ce qui arrivera à l'enfant.

³ולקחת בידך עשרה לחם ונקדים ובקבק דבש ובאת אליו הוא יגיד לך מה יהיה לנער׃

⁴And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

⁴La femme de Jéroboam fit ainsi; elle se leva, alla à Silo, et entra dans la maison d'Achija. Achija ne pouvait plus voir, car il avait les yeux fixes par suite de la vieillesse.

⁴ותעש כן אשת ירבעם ותקם ותלך שלה ותבא בית אחיה ואחיהו לא יכל לראות כי קמו עיניו משיבו׃

⁵And Jehovah said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to inquire of thee concerning her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her; for it will be, when she cometh in, that she will feign herself to be another woman.

⁵L'Eternel avait dit à Achija: La femme de Jéroboam va venir te consulter au sujet de son fils, parce qu'il est malade. Tu lui parleras de telle et de telle manière. Quand elle arrivera, elle se donnera pour une autre.

⁵ויהוה אמר אל אחיהו הנה אשת ירבעם באה לדרש דבר מעמך אל בנה כי חלה הוא כזה וכזה תדבר אליה ויהי כבאה והיא מתנכרה׃

⁶And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

⁶Lorsque Achija entendit le bruit de ses pas, au moment où elle franchissait la porte, il dit: Entre, femme de Jéroboam; pourquoi veux-tu te donner pour une autre? Je suis chargé de t'annoncer des choses dures.

⁶ויהי כשמע אחיהו את קול רגליה באה בפתח ויאמר באי אשת ירבעם למה זה את מתנכרה ואנכי שלוח אליך קשה׃

⁷Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over my people Israel,

⁷Va, dis à Jéroboam: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Je t'ai élevé du milieu du peuple, je t'ai établi chef de mon peuple d'Israël,

⁷לכי אמרי לירבעם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל יען אשר הרימתיך מתוך העם ואתנך נגיד על עמי ישראל׃

⁸and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee; and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes,

⁸j'ai arraché le royaume de la maison de David et je te l'ai donné. Et tu n'as pas été comme mon serviteur David, qui a observé mes commandements et qui a marché après moi de tout son coeur, ne faisant que ce qui est droit à mes yeux.

⁸ואקרע את הממלכה מבית דוד ואתנה לך ולא היית כעבדי דוד אשר שמר מצותי ואשר הלך אחרי בכל לבבו לעשות רק הישר בעיני׃

⁹but hast done evil above all that were before thee, and hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

⁹Tu as agi plus mal que tous ceux qui ont été avant toi, tu es allé te faire d'autres dieux, et des images de fonte pour m'irriter, et tu m'as rejeté derrière ton dos!

⁹ותרע לעשות מכל אשר היו לפניך ותלך ותעשה לך אלהים אחרים ומסכות להכעיסני ואתי השלכת אחרי גוך׃

¹⁰therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every man-child, him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweepeth away dung, till it be all gone.

¹⁰Voilà pourquoi je vais faire venir le malheur sur la maison de Jéroboam; j'exterminerai quiconque appartient à Jéroboam, celui qui est esclave et celui qui est libre en Israël, et je balaierai la maison de Jéroboam comme on balaie les ordures, jusqu'à ce qu'elle ait disparu.

¹⁰לכן הנני מביא רעה אל בית ירבעם והכרתי לירבעם משתין בקיר עצור ועזוב בישראל ובערתי אחרי בית ירבעם כאשר יבער הגלל עד תמו׃

¹¹Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat: for Jehovah hath spoken it.

¹¹Celui de la maison de Jéroboam qui mourra dans la ville sera mangé par les chiens, et celui qui mourra dans les champs sera mangé par les oiseaux du ciel. Car l'Eternel a parlé.

¹¹המת לירבעם בעיר יאכלו הכלבים והמת בשדה יאכלו עוף השמים כי יהוה דבר׃

¹²Arise thou therefore, get thee to thy house: [and] when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

¹²Et toi, lève-toi, va dans ta maison. Dès que tes pieds entreront dans la ville, l'enfant mourra.

¹²ואת קומי לכי לביתך בבאה רגליך העירה ומת הילד׃

¹³And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

¹³Tout Israël le pleurera, et on l'enterrera; car il est le seul de la maison de Jéroboam qui sera mis dans un sépulcre, parce qu'il est le seul de la maison de Jéroboam en qui se soit trouvé quelque chose de bon devant l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

¹³וספדו לו כל ישראל וקברו אתו כי זה לבדו יבא לירבעם אל קבר יען נמצא בו דבר טוב אל יהוה אלהי ישראל בבית ירבעם׃

¹⁴Moreover Jehovah will raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.

¹⁴L'Eternel établira sur Israël un roi qui exterminera la maison de Jéroboam ce jour-là. Et n'est-ce pas déjà ce qui arrive?

¹⁴והקים יהוה לו מלך על ישראל אשר יכרית את בית ירבעם זה היום ומה גם עתה׃

¹⁵For Jehovah will smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking Jehovah to anger.

¹⁵L'Eternel frappera Israël, et il en sera de lui comme du roseau qui est agité dans les eaux; il arrachera Israël de ce bon pays qu'il avait donné à leurs pères, et il les dispersera de l'autre côté du fleuve, parce qu'ils se sont fait des idoles, irritant l'Eternel.

¹⁵והכה יהוה את ישראל כאשר ינוד הקנה במים ונתש את ישראל מעל האדמה הטובה הזאת אשר נתן לאבותיהם וזרם מעבר לנהר יען אשר עשו את אשריהם מכעיסים את יהוה׃

¹⁶And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he hath sinned, and wherewith he hath made Israel to sin.

¹⁶Il livrera Israël à cause des péchés que Jéroboam a commis et qu'il a fait commettre à Israël.

¹⁶ויתן את ישראל בגלל חטאות ירבעם אשר חטא ואשר החטיא את ישראל׃

¹⁷And Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: [and] as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.

¹⁷La femme de Jéroboam se leva, et partit. Elle arriva à Thirtsa; et, comme elle atteignait le seuil de la maison, l'enfant mourut.

¹⁷ותקם אשת ירבעם ותלך ותבא תרצתה היא באה בסף הבית והנער מת׃

¹⁸And all Israel buried him, and mourned for him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

¹⁸On l'enterra, et tout Israël le pleura, selon la parole que l'Eternel avait dite par son serviteur Achija, le prophète.

¹⁸ויקברו אתו ויספדו לו כל ישראל כדבר יהוה אשר דבר ביד עבדו אחיהו הנביא׃

¹⁹And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

¹⁹Le reste des actions de Jéroboam, comment il fit la guerre et comment il régna, cela est écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël.

¹⁹ויתר דברי ירבעם אשר נלחם ואשר מלך הנם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל׃

²⁰And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

²⁰Jéroboam régna vingt-deux ans, puis il se coucha avec ses pères. Et Nadab, son fils, régna à sa place.

²⁰והימים אשר מלך ירבעם עשרים ושתים שנה וישכב עם אבתיו וימלך נדב בנו תחתיו׃

²¹And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

²¹Roboam, fils de Salomon, régna sur Juda. Il avait quarante et un ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que l'Eternel avait choisie sur toutes les tribus d'Israël pour y mettre son nom. Sa mère s'appelait Naama, l'Ammonite.

²¹ורחבעם בן שלמה מלך ביהודה בן ארבעים ואחת שנה רחבעם במלכו ושבע עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם העיר אשר בחר יהוה לשום את שמו שם מכל שבטי ישראל ושם אמו נעמה העמנית׃

²²And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.

²²Juda fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel; et, par les péchés qu'ils commirent, ils excitèrent sa jalousie plus que ne l'avaient jamais fait leurs pères.

²²ויעש יהודה הרע בעיני יהוה ויקנאו אתו מכל אשר עשו אבתם בחטאתם אשר חטאו׃

²³For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree;

²³Ils se bâtirent, eux aussi, des hauts lieux avec des statues et des idoles sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert.

²³ויבנו גם המה להם במות ומצבות ואשרים על כל גבעה גבהה ותחת כל עץ רענן׃

²⁴and there were also sodomites in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Jehovah drove out before the children of Israel.

²⁴Il y eut même des prostitués dans le pays. Ils imitèrent toutes les abominations des nations que l'Eternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.

²⁴וגם קדש היה בארץ עשו ככל התועבת הגוים אשר הוריש יהוה מפני בני ישראל׃

²⁵And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;

²⁵La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Schischak, roi d'Egypte, monta contre Jérusalem.

²⁵ויהי בשנה החמישית למלך רחבעם עלה שושק מלך מצרים על ירושלם׃

²⁶and he took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

²⁶Il prit les trésors de la maison de l'Eternel et les trésors de la maison du roi, il prit tout. Il prit tous les boucliers d'or que Salomon avait faits.

²⁶ויקח את אצרות בית יהוה ואת אוצרות בית המלך ואת הכל לקח ויקח את כל מגני הזהב אשר עשה שלמה׃

²⁷And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.

²⁷Le roi Roboam fit à leur place des boucliers d'airain, et il les remit aux soins des chefs des coureurs, qui gardaient l'entrée de la maison du roi.

²⁷ויעש המלך רחבעם תחתם מגני נחשת והפקיד על יד שרי הרצים השמרים פתח בית המלך׃

²⁸And it was so, that, as oft as the king went into the house of Jehovah, the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.

²⁸Toutes les fois que le roi allait à la maison de l'Eternel, les coureurs les portaient; puis ils les rapportaient dans la chambre des coureurs.

²⁸ויהי מדי בא המלך בית יהוה ישאום הרצים והשיבום אל תא הרצים׃

²⁹Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²⁹Le reste des actions de Roboam, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?

²⁹ויתר דברי רחבעם וכל אשר עשה הלא המה כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃

³⁰And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

³⁰Il y eut toujours guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam.

³⁰ומלחמה היתה בין רחבעם ובין ירבעם כל הימים׃

³¹And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.

³¹Roboam se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Sa mère s'appelait Naama, l'Ammonite. Et Abijam, son fils, régna à sa place.

³¹וישכב רחבעם עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דוד ושם אמו נעמה העמנית וימלך אבים בנו תחתיו׃
