¹Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

¹Les Philistins livrèrent bataille à Israël, et les hommes d'Israël prirent la fuite devant les Philistins et tombèrent morts sur la montagne de Guilboa.

¹ופלשתים נלחמים בישראל וינסו אנשי ישראל מפני פלשתים ויפלו חללים בהר הגלבע׃

²And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

²Les Philistins poursuivirent Saül et ses fils, et tuèrent Jonathan, Abinadab et Malkischua, fils de Saül.

²וידבקו פלשתים את שאול ואת בניו ויכו פלשתים את יהונתן ואת אבינדב ואת מלכי שוע בני שאול׃

³And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers.

³L'effort du combat porta sur Saül; les archers l'atteignirent, et le blessèrent grièvement.

³ותכבד המלחמה אל שאול וימצאהו המורים אנשים בקשת ויחל מאד מהמורים׃

⁴Then said Saul to his armorbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

⁴Saül dit alors à celui qui portait ses armes: Tire ton épée, et m'en transperce, de peur que ces incirconcis ne viennent me percer et me faire subir leurs outrages. Celui qui portait ses armes ne voulut pas, car il était saisi de crainte. Et Saül prit son épée, et se jeta dessus.

⁴ויאמר שאול לנשא כליו שלף חרבך ודקרני בה פן יבואו הערלים האלה ודקרני והתעללו בי ולא אבה נשא כליו כי ירא מאד ויקח שאול את החרב ויפל עליה׃

⁵And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died with him.

⁵Celui qui portait les armes de Saül, le voyant mort, se jeta aussi sur son épée, et mourut avec lui.

⁵וירא נשא כליו כי מת שאול ויפל גם הוא על חרבו וימת עמו׃

⁶So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armorbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

⁶Ainsi périrent en même temps, dans cette journée, Saül et ses trois fils, celui qui portait ses armes, et tous ses gens.

⁶וימת שאול ושלשת בניו ונשא כליו גם כל אנשיו ביום ההוא יחדו׃

⁷And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

⁷Ceux d'Israël qui étaient de ce côté de la vallée et de ce côté du Jourdain, ayant vu que les hommes d'Israël s'enfuyaient et que Saül et ses fils étaient morts, abandonnèrent leurs villes pour prendre aussi la fuite. Et les Philistins allèrent s'y établir.

⁷ויראו אנשי ישראל אשר בעבר העמק ואשר בעבר הירדן כי נסו אנשי ישראל וכי מתו שאול ובניו ויעזבו את הערים וינסו ויבאו פלשתים וישבו בהן׃

⁸And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

⁸Le lendemain, les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, et ils trouvèrent Saül et ses trois fils tombés sur la montagne de Guilboa.

⁸ויהי ממחרת ויבאו פלשתים לפשט את החללים וימצאו את שאול ואת שלשת בניו נפלים בהר הגלבע׃

⁹And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto the house of their idols, and to the people.

⁹Ils coupèrent la tête de Saül, et enlevèrent ses armes. Puis ils firent annoncer ces bonnes nouvelles par tout le pays des Philistins dans les maisons de leurs idoles et parmi le peuple.

⁹ויכרתו את ראשו ויפשיטו את כליו וישלחו בארץ פלשתים סביב לבשר בית עצביהם ואת העם׃

¹⁰And they put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

¹⁰Ils mirent les armes de Saül dans la maison des Astartés, et ils attachèrent son cadavre sur les murs de Beth-Schan.

¹⁰וישמו את כליו בית עשתרות ואת גויתו תקעו בחומת בית שן׃

¹¹And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard concerning him that which the Philistines had done to Saul,

¹¹Lorsque les habitants de Jabès en Galaad apprirent comment les Philistins avaient traité Saül,

¹¹וישמעו אליו ישבי יביש גלעד את אשר עשו פלשתים לשאול׃

¹²all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

¹²tous les vaillants hommes se levèrent, et, après avoir marché toute la nuit, ils arrachèrent des murs de Beth-Schan le cadavre de Saül et ceux de ses fils. Puis ils revinrent à Jabès, où ils les brûlèrent;

¹²ויקומו כל איש חיל וילכו כל הלילה ויקחו את גוית שאול ואת גוית בניו מחומת בית שן ויבאו יבשה וישרפו אתם שם׃

¹³And they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk-tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

¹³ils prirent leurs os, et les enterrèrent sous le tamarisc à Jabès. Et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.

¹³ויקחו את עצמתיהם ויקברו תחת האשל ביבשה ויצמו שבעת ימים׃
