¹Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;

¹פולוס שליח ישוע המשיח כמצות האלהים מושיענו והאדון ישוע המשיח תקותנו׃

²unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

²Timothée, mon enfant légitime en la foi: que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix, te soient données de la part de Dieu le Père et de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur!

²אל טימותיוס בנו האמתי באמונה חסד ורחמים ושלום מאת אלהים אבינו והמשיח ישוע אדנינו׃

³As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,

³Je te rappelle l'exhortation que je te fis, à mon départ pour la Macédoine, lorsque je t'engageai à rester à Ephèse, afin de recommander à certaines personnes de ne pas enseigner d'autres doctrines,

³הנה בלכתי למקדוניא בקשתי ממך לשבת באפסוס למען תזהיר מקצת אנשים שלא יורו תורה זרה׃

⁴neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; [so do I now].

⁴et de ne pas s'attacher à des fables et à des généalogies sans fin, qui produisent des discussions plutôt qu'elles n'avancent l'oeuvre de Dieu dans la foi.

⁴ולא ישימו לבם להגדות וללמודי תולדות אין קץ המביאים יותר לשאלות מלבנות בית אלהים באמונה׃

⁵But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:

⁵Le but du commandement, c'est une charité venant d'un coeur pur, d'une bonne conscience, et d'une foi sincère.

⁵כי תכלית המצוה היא האהבה בלב טהור וברוח טובה ובאמונה לא צבועה׃

⁶from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;

⁶Quelques-uns, s'étant détournés de ces choses, se sont égarés dans de vains discours;

⁶יש אשר תעו ממנה ויפנו אחרי למודי תהו׃

⁷desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.

⁷ils veulent être docteurs de la loi, et ils ne comprennent ni ce qu'ils disent, ni ce qu'ils affirment.

⁷בחשבם להיות מורי תורה ואינם מבינים מה הם אמרים ומה הם מחליטים׃

⁸But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,

⁸Nous n'ignorons pas que la loi est bonne, pourvu qu'on en fasse un usage légitime,

⁸אבל ידענו כי התורה טובה היא אם יתנהג בה האדם כתורה׃

⁹as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

⁹sachant bien que la loi n'est pas faite pour le juste, mais pour les méchants et les rebelles, les impies et les pécheurs, les irréligieux et les profanes, les parricides, les meurtriers,

⁹בדעתו זאת כי חק לא הושם בעבור הצדיק אלא בעבור הסוררים והמרדים הרשעים והחטאים עשי זמה ונבלה מכי אב ומכי אם ומרצחים׃

¹⁰for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;

¹⁰les impudiques, les infâmes, les voleurs d'hommes, les menteurs, les parjures, et tout ce qui est contraire à la saine doctrine, -

¹⁰וזנים ושכבים את זכר וגנבי נפש וכזבים ונשבעים לשקר וכל מעשה הפך מן הלקח הבריא׃

¹¹according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

¹¹conformément à l'Evangile de la gloire du Dieu bienheureux, Evangile qui m'a été confié.

¹¹כפי בשורת כבוד האל המברך אשר פקדה עלי׃

¹²I thank him that enabled me, [even] Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to [his] service;

¹²Je rends grâces à celui qui m'a fortifié, à Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur, de ce qu'il m'a jugé fidèle, en m'établissant dans le ministère,

¹²והנני מודה לישוע המשיח אדנינו המאזרני חיל כי חשבני נאמן וישימני למשרת לו׃

¹³though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;

¹³moi qui étais auparavant un blasphémateur, un persécuteur, un homme violent. Mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde, parce que j'agissais par ignorance, dans l'incrédulité;

¹³אתי אשר מלפנים הייתי מגדף ומרדף ומחרף אבל רחמתי כי עשיתי מבלי דעת באין אמונה׃

¹⁴and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴et la grâce de notre Seigneur a surabondé, avec la foi et la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ.

¹⁴ויגדל עלי במאד מאד חסד אדנינו עם האמונה והאהבה במשיח ישוע׃

¹⁵Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:

¹⁵C'est une parole certaine et entièrement digne d'être reçue, que Jésus-Christ est venu dans le monde pour sauver les pécheurs, dont je suis le premier.

¹⁵נאמן הדבר וראוי להתקבל על כל כי המשיח ישוע בא לעולם להושיע את החטאים אשר אנכי הגדול בהם׃

¹⁶howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

¹⁶Mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde, afin que Jésus-Christ fît voir en moi le premier toute sa longanimité, pour que je servisse d'exemple à ceux qui croiraient en lui pour la vie éternelle.

¹⁶ובעבור זאת רחמתי למען אשר יראה ישוע המשיח בי בראשונה את כל ארך רוחו להיותי למופת לכל אשר יבאו להאמין בו לחיי עולם׃

¹⁷Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, [be] honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁷Au roi des siècles, immortel, invisible, seul Dieu, soient honneur et gloire, aux siècles des siècles! Amen!

¹⁷ולמלך עולמים לאלהים הקים לעד והנעלם מעין והחכם לבדו לו הכבוד וההדר לעולמי עולמים אמן׃

¹⁸This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;

¹⁸Le commandement que je t'adresse, Timothée, mon enfant, selon les prophéties faites précédemment à ton sujet, c'est que, d'après elles, tu combattes le bon combat,

¹⁸את המצוה הזאת אני מצוך בני טימותיוס כפי הנבואות הקדמות עליך שתלחם לפיהן המלחמה הטובה׃

¹⁹holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:

¹⁹en gardant la foi et une bonne conscience. Cette conscience, quelques-uns l'ont perdue, et ils ont fait naufrage par rapport à la foi.

¹⁹לאחז באמונה וברוח הטובה אשר יש מאסים בה ותשבר אנית אמונתם׃

²⁰of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.

²⁰De ce nombre sont Hyménée et Alexandre, que j'ai livrés à Satan, afin qu'ils apprennent à ne pas blasphémer.

²⁰ומהם הומניוס ואלכסנדר אשר מסרתים לשטן למען יוסרו לבלתי גדף עוד׃
