¹And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

¹Roboam, arrivé à Jérusalem, rassembla la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes d'élite propres à la guerre, pour qu'ils combattissent contre Israël afin de le ramener sous la domination de Roboam.

¹ויבא רחבעם ירושלם ויקהל את בית יהודה ובנימן מאה ושמונים אלף בחור עשה מלחמה להלחם עם ישראל להשיב את הממלכה לרחבעם׃

²But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

²Mais la parole de l'Eternel fut ainsi adressée à Schemaeja, homme de Dieu:

²ויהי דבר יהוה אל שמעיהו איש האלהים לאמר׃

³Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

³Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout Israël en Juda et en Benjamin. Et dis-leur:

³אמר אל רחבעם בן שלמה מלך יהודה ואל כל ישראל ביהודה ובנימן לאמר׃

⁴Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

⁴Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Ne montez point, et ne faites pas la guerre à vos frères! Que chacun de vous retourne dans sa maison, car c'est de par moi que cette chose est arrivée. Ils obéirent aux paroles de l'Eternel, et ils s'en retournèrent, renonçant à marcher contre Jéroboam.

⁴כה אמר יהוה לא תעלו ולא תלחמו עם אחיכם שובו איש לביתו כי מאתי נהיה הדבר הזה וישמעו את דברי יהוה וישבו מלכת אל ירבעם׃

⁵And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

⁵Roboam demeura à Jérusalem, et il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda.

⁵וישב רחבעם בירושלם ויבן ערים למצור ביהודה׃

⁶He built Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁶Il bâtit Bethléhem, Etham, Tekoa,

⁶ויבן את בית לחם ואת עיטם ואת תקוע׃

⁷And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

⁷Beth-Tsur, Soco, Adullam,

⁷ואת בית צור ואת שוכו ואת עדלם׃

⁸and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁸Gath, Maréscha, Ziph,

⁸ואת גת ואת מרשה ואת זיף׃

⁹and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

⁹Adoraïm, Lakis, Azéka,

⁹ואת אדורים ואת לכיש ואת עזקה׃

¹⁰and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

¹⁰Tsorea, Ajalon et Hébron, qui étaient en Juda et en Benjamin, et il en fit des villes fortes.

¹⁰ואת צרעה ואת אילון ואת חברון אשר ביהודה ובבנימן ערי מצרות׃

¹¹And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine.

¹¹Il les fortifia, et y établit des commandants, et des magasins de vivres, d'huile et de vin.

¹¹ויחזק את המצרות ויתן בהם נגידים ואצרות מאכל ושמן ויין׃

¹²And in every city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

¹²Il mit dans chacune de ces villes des boucliers et des lances, et il les rendit très fortes. Juda et Benjamin étaient à lui.

¹²ובכל עיר ועיר צנות ורמחים ויחזקם להרבה מאד ויהי לו יהודה ובנימן׃

¹³And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.

¹³Les sacrificateurs et les Lévites qui se trouvaient dans tout Israël quittèrent leurs demeures pour se rendre auprès de lui;

¹³והכהנים והלוים אשר בכל ישראל התיצבו עליו מכל גבולם׃

¹⁴For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office unto Jehovah;

¹⁴car les Lévites abandonnèrent leurs banlieues et leurs propriétés et vinrent en Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam et ses fils les empêchèrent de remplir leurs fonctions comme sacrificateurs de l'Eternel.

¹⁴כי עזבו הלוים את מגרשיהם ואחזתם וילכו ליהודה ולירושלם כי הזניחם ירבעם ובניו מכהן ליהוה׃

¹⁵and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.

¹⁵Jéroboam établit des sacrificateurs pour les hauts lieux, pour les boucs, et pour les veaux qu'il avait faits.

¹⁵ויעמד לו כהנים לבמות ולשעירים ולעגלים אשר עשה׃

¹⁶And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

¹⁶Ceux de toutes les tribus d'Israël qui avaient à coeur de chercher l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, suivirent les Lévites à Jérusalem pour sacrifier à l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.

¹⁶ואחריהם מכל שבטי ישראל הנתנים את לבבם לבקש את יהוה אלהי ישראל באו ירושלם לזבוח ליהוה אלהי אבותיהם׃

¹⁷So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

¹⁷Ils donnèrent ainsi de la force au royaume de Juda, et affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans; car ils marchèrent pendant trois ans dans la voie de David et de Salomon.

¹⁷ויחזקו את מלכות יהודה ויאמצו את רחבעם בן שלמה לשנים שלוש כי הלכו בדרך דויד ושלמה לשנים שלוש׃

¹⁸And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

¹⁸Roboam prit pour femme Mahalath, fille de Jerimoth, fils de David et d'Abichaïl, fille d'Eliab, fils d'Isaï.

¹⁸ויקח לו רחבעם אשה את מחלת בן ירימות בן דויד אביהיל בת אליאב בן ישי׃

¹⁹and she bare him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

¹⁹Elle lui enfanta des fils: Jeusch, Schemaria et Zaham.

¹⁹ותלד לו בנים את יעוש ואת שמריה ואת זהם׃

²⁰And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

²⁰Après elle, il prit Maaca, fille d'Absalom. Elle lui enfanta Abija, Attaï, Ziza et Schelomith.

²⁰ואחריה לקח את מעכה בת אבשלום ותלד לו את אביה ואת עתי ואת זיזא ואת שלמית׃

²¹And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.)

²¹Roboam aimait Maaca, fille d'Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines; car il eut dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et il engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.

²¹ויאהב רחבעם את מעכה בת אבשלום מכל נשיו ופילגשיו כי נשים שמונה עשרה נשא ופילגשים ששים ויולד עשרים ושמונה בנים וששים בנות׃

²²And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, [even] the prince among his brethren; for [he was minded] to make him king.

²²Roboam donna le premier rang à Abija, fils de Maaca, et l'établit chef parmi ses frères, car il voulait le faire roi.

²²ויעמד לראש רחבעם את אביה בן מעכה לנגיד באחיו כי להמליכו׃

²³And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he sought [for them] many wives.

²³Il agit avec habileté en dispersant tous ses fils dans toutes les contrées de Juda et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortes; il leur fournit des vivres en abondance, et demanda pour eux une multitude de femmes.

²³ויבן ויפרץ מכל בניו לכל ארצות יהודה ובנימן לכל ערי המצרות ויתן להם המזון לרב וישאל המון נשים׃
