¹And it came to pass, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, that he forsook the law of Jehovah, and all Israel with him.

¹Lorsque Roboam se fut affermi dans son royaume et qu'il eut acquis de la force, il abandonna la loi de l'Eternel, et tout Israël l'abandonna avec lui.

¹ויהי כהכין מלכות רחבעם וכחזקתו עזב את תורת יהוה וכל ישראל עמו׃

²And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Jehovah,

²La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Schischak, roi d'Egypte, monta contre Jérusalem, parce qu'ils avaient péché contre l'Eternel.

²ויהי בשנה החמישית למלך רחבעם עלה שישק מלך מצרים על ירושלם כי מעלו ביהוה׃

³with twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen. And the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.

³Il avait mille deux cents chars et soixante mille cavaliers; et il vint d'Egypte avec lui un peuple innombrable, des Libyens, des Sukkiens et des Ethiopiens.

³באלף ומאתים רכב ובששים אלף פרשים ואין מספר לעם אשר באו עמו ממצרים לובים סכיים וכושים׃

⁴And he took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah, and came unto Jerusalem.

⁴Il prit les villes fortes qui appartenaient à Juda, et arriva jusqu'à Jérusalem.

⁴וילכד את ערי המצרות אשר ליהודה ויבא עד ירושלם׃

⁵Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Ye have forsaken me, therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

⁵Alors Schemaeja, le prophète, se rendit auprès de Roboam et des chefs de Juda qui s'étaient retirés dans Jérusalem à l'approche de Schischak, et il leur dit: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Vous m'avez abandonné; je vous abandonne aussi, et je vous livre entre les mains de Schischak.

⁵ושמעיה הנביא בא אל רחבעם ושרי יהודה אשר נאספו אל ירושלם מפני שישק ויאמר להם כה אמר יהוה אתם עזבתם אתי ואף אני עזבתי אתכם ביד שישק׃

⁶Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, Jehovah is righteous.

⁶Les chefs d'Israël et le roi s'humilièrent et dirent: L'Eternel est juste!

⁶ויכנעו שרי ישראל והמלך ויאמרו צדיק יהוה׃

⁷And when Jehovah saw that they humbled themselves, the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves: I will not destroy them; but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

⁷Et quand l'Eternel vit qu'ils s'humiliaient, la parole de l'Eternel fut ainsi adressée à Schemaeja: Ils se sont humiliés, je ne les détruirai pas, je ne tarderai pas à les secourir, et ma colère ne se répandra pas sur Jérusalem par Schischak;

⁷ובראות יהוה כי נכנעו היה דבר יהוה אל שמעיה לאמר נכנעו לא אשחיתם ונתתי להם כמעט לפליטה ולא תתך חמתי בירושלם ביד שישק׃

⁸Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

⁸mais ils lui seront assujettis, et ils sauront ce que c'est que me servir ou servir les royaumes des autres pays.

⁸כי יהיו לו לעבדים וידעו עבודתי ועבודת ממלכות הארצות׃

⁹So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king's house: he took all away: he took away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

⁹Schischak, roi d'Egypte, monta contre Jérusalem. Il prit les trésors de la maison de l'Eternel et les trésors de la maison du roi, il prit tout. Il prit les boucliers d'or que Salomon avait faits.

⁹ויעל שישק מלך מצרים על ירושלם ויקח את אצרות בית יהוה ואת אצרות בית המלך את הכל לקח ויקח את מגני הזהב אשר עשה שלמה׃

¹⁰And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, that kept the door of the king's house.

¹⁰Le roi Roboam fit à leur place des boucliers d'airain, et il les remit aux soins des chefs des coureurs, qui gardaient l'entrée de la maison du roi.

¹⁰ויעש המלך רחבעם תחתיהם מגני נחשת והפקיד על יד שרי הרצים השמרים פתח בית המלך׃

¹¹And it was so, that, as oft as the king entered into the house of Jehovah, the guard came and bare them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.

¹¹Toutes les fois que le roi allait à la maison de l'Eternel, les coureurs venaient et les portaient; puis ils les rapportaient dans la chambre des coureurs.

¹¹ויהי מדי בוא המלך בית יהוה באו הרצים ונשאום והשבום אל תא הרצים׃

¹²And when he humbled himself, the wrath of Jehovah turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether: and moreover in Judah there were good things [found].

¹²Comme Roboam s'était humilié, l'Eternel détourna de lui sa colère et ne le détruisit pas entièrement. Et il y avait encore de bonnes choses en Juda.

¹²ובהכנעו שב ממנו אף יהוה ולא להשחית לכלה וגם ביהודה היה דברים טובים׃

¹³So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

¹³Le roi Roboam s'affermit dans Jérusalem et régna. Il avait quarante et un ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que l'Eternel avait choisie sur toutes les tribus d'Israël pour y mettre son nom. Sa mère s'appelait Naama, l'Ammonite.

¹³ויתחזק המלך רחבעם בירושלם וימלך כי בן ארבעים ואחת שנה רחבעם במלכו ושבע עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם העיר אשר בחר יהוה לשום את שמו שם מכל שבטי ישראל ושם אמו נעמה העמנית׃

¹⁴And he did that which was evil, because he set not his heart to seek Jehovah.

¹⁴Il fit le mal, parce qu'il n'appliqua pas son coeur à chercher l'Eternel.

¹⁴ויעש הרע כי לא הכין לבו לדרוש את יהוה׃

¹⁵Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the histories of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, after the manner of genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

¹⁵Les actions de Roboam, les premières et les dernières, ne sont-elles pas écrites dans les livres de Schemaeja, le prophète et d'Iddo, le prophète, parmi les registres généalogiques? Il y eut toujours guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam.

¹⁵ודברי רחבעם הראשנים והאחרונים הלא הם כתובים בדברי שמעיה הנביא ועדו החזה להתיחש ומלחמות רחבעם וירבעם כל הימים׃

¹⁶And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁶Roboam se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David. Et Abija, son fils, régna à sa place.

¹⁶וישכב רחבעם עם אבתיו ויקבר בעיר דויד וימלך אביה בנו תחתיו׃
