¹And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

¹Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Et Joram, son fils, régna à sa place.

¹וישכב יהושפט עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דויד וימלך יהורם בנו תחתיו׃

²And he had brethren, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

²Joram avait des frères, fils de Josaphat: Azaria, Jehiel, Zacharie, Azaria, Micaël et Schephathia, tous fils de Josaphat, roi d'Israël.

²ולו אחים בני יהושפט עזריה ויחיאל וזכריהו ועזריהו ומיכאל ושפטיהו כל אלה בני יהושפט מלך ישראל׃

³And their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the first-born.

³Leur père leur avait donné des présents considérables en argent, en or, et en objets précieux, avec des villes fortes en Juda; mais il laissa le royaume à Joram, parce qu'il était le premier-né.

³ויתן להם אביהם מתנות רבות לכסף ולזהב ולמגדנות עם ערי מצרות ביהודה ואת הממלכה נתן ליהורם כי הוא הבכור׃

⁴Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.

⁴Lorsque Joram eut pris possession du royaume de son père et qu'il se fut fortifié, il fit mourir par l'épée tous ses frères et quelques-uns aussi des chefs d'Israël.

⁴ויקם יהורם על ממלכת אביו ויתחזק ויהרג את כל אחיו בחרב וגם משרי ישראל׃

⁵Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

⁵Joram avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.

⁵בן שלשים ושתים שנה יהורם במלכו ושמונה שנים מלך בירושלם׃

⁶And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah.

⁶Il marcha dans la voie des rois d'Israël, comme avait fait la maison d'Achab, car il avait pour femme une fille d'Achab, et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel.

⁶וילך בדרך מלכי ישראל כאשר עשו בית אחאב כי בת אחאב היתה לו אשה ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה׃

⁷Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children alway.

⁷Mais l'Eternel ne voulut point détruire la maison de David, à cause de l'alliance qu'il avait traitée avec David et de la promesse qu'il avait faite de lui donner toujours une lampe, à lui et à ses fils.

⁷ולא אבה יהוה להשחית את בית דויד למען הברית אשר כרת לדויד וכאשר אמר לתת לו ניר ולבניו כל הימים׃

⁸In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

⁸De son temps, Edom se révolta contre l'autorité de Juda, et se donna un roi.

⁸בימיו פשע אדום מתחת יד יהודה וימליכו עליהם מלך׃

⁹Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots.

⁹Joram partit avec ses chefs et tous ses chars; s'étant levé de nuit, il battit les Edomites qui l'entouraient et les chefs des chars.

⁹ויעבר יהורם עם שריו וכל הרכב עמו ויהי קם לילה ויך את אדום הסובב אליו ואת שרי הרכב׃

¹⁰So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day: then did Libnah revolt at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Jehovah, the God of his fathers.

¹⁰La rébellion d'Edom contre l'autorité de Juda a duré jusqu'à ce jour. Libna se révolta dans le même temps contre son autorité, parce qu'il avait abandonné l'Eternel, le Dieu de ses pères.

¹⁰ויפשע אדום מתחת יד יהודה עד היום הזה אז תפשע לבנה בעת ההיא מתחת ידו כי עזב את יהוה אלהי אבתיו׃

¹¹Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, and led Judah astray.

¹¹Joram fit même des hauts lieux dans les montagnes de Juda; il poussa les habitants de Jérusalem à la prostitution, et il séduisit Juda.

¹¹גם הוא עשה במות בהרי יהודה ויזן את ישבי ירושלם וידח את יהודה׃

¹²And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

¹²Il lui vint un écrit du prophète Elie, disant: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu de David, ton père: Parce que tu n'as pas marché dans les voies de Josaphat, ton père, et dans les voies d'Asa, roi de Juda,

¹²ויבא אליו מכתב מאליהו הנביא לאמר כה אמר יהוה אלהי דויד אביך תחת אשר לא הלכת בדרכי יהושפט אביך ובדרכי אסא מלך יהודה׃

¹³but hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the harlot, like as the house of Ahab did, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, who were better than thyself:

¹³mais que tu as marché dans la voie des rois d'Israël; parce que tu as entraîné à la prostitution Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, comme l'a fait la maison d'Achab à l'égard d'Israël; et parce que tu as fait mourir tes frères, meilleurs que toi, la maison même de ton père; -

¹³ותלך בדרך מלכי ישראל ותזנה את יהודה ואת ישבי ירושלם כהזנות בית אחאב וגם את אחיך בית אביך הטובים ממך הרגת׃

¹⁴behold, Jehovah will smite with a great plague thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance;

¹⁴voici, l'Eternel frappera ton peuple d'une grande plaie, tes fils, tes femmes, et tout ce qui t'appartient;

¹⁴הנה יהוה נגף מגפה גדולה בעמך ובבניך ובנשיך ובכל רכושך׃

¹⁵and thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.

¹⁵et toi, il te frappera d'une maladie violente, d'une maladie d'entrailles, qui augmentera de jour en jour jusqu'à ce que tes entrailles sortent par la force du mal.

¹⁵ואתה בחליים רבים במחלה מעיך עד יצאו מעיך מן החלי ימים על ימים׃

¹⁶And Jehovah stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians that are beside the Ethiopians:

¹⁶Et l'Eternel excita contre Joram l'esprit des Philistins et des Arabes qui sont dans le voisinage des Ethiopiens.

¹⁶ויער יהוה על יהורם את רוח הפלשתים והערבים אשר על יד כושים׃

¹⁷and they came up against Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

¹⁷Ils montèrent contre Juda, y firent une invasion, pillèrent toutes les richesses qui se trouvaient dans la maison du roi, et emmenèrent ses fils et ses femmes, de sorte qu'il ne lui resta d'autre fils que Joachaz, le plus jeune de ses fils.

¹⁷ויעלו ביהודה ויבקעוה וישבו את כל הרכוש הנמצא לבית המלך וגם בניו ונשיו ולא נשאר לו בן כי אם יהואחז קטן בניו׃

¹⁸And after all this Jehovah smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

¹⁸Après tout cela, l'Eternel le frappa d'une maladie d'entrailles qui était sans remède;

¹⁸ואחרי כל זאת נגפו יהוה במעיו לחלי לאין מרפא׃

¹⁹And it came to pass, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

¹⁹elle augmenta de jour en jour, et sur la fin de la seconde année les entrailles de Joram sortirent par la force de son mal. Il mourut dans de violentes souffrances; et son peuple ne brûla point de parfums en son honneur, comme il l'avait fait pour ses pères.

¹⁹ויהי לימים מימים וכעת צאת הקץ לימים שנים יצאו מעיו עם חליו וימת בתחלאים רעים ולא עשו לו עמו שרפה כשרפת אבתיו׃

²⁰Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years: and he departed without being desired; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

²⁰Il avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem. Il s'en alla sans être regretté, et on l'enterra dans la ville de David, mais non dans les sépulcres des rois.

²⁰בן שלשים ושתים היה במלכו ושמונה שנים מלך בירושלם וילך בלא חמדה ויקברהו בעיר דויד ולא בקברות המלכים׃
