¹And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

¹La septième année, Jehojada s'anima de courage, et traita alliance avec les chefs de centaines, Azaria, fils de Jerocham, Ismaël, fils de Jochanan, Azaria, fils d'Obed, Maaséja, fils d'Adaja, et Elischaphath, fils de Zicri.

¹ובשנה השבעית התחזק יהוידע ויקח את שרי המאות לעזריהו בן ירחם ולישמעאל בן יהוחנן ולעזריהו בן עובד ואת מעשיהו בן עדיהו ואת אלישפט בן זכרי עמו בברית׃

²And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' [houses] of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

²Ils parcoururent Juda, et ils rassemblèrent les Lévites de toutes les villes de Juda et les chefs de famille d'Israël; et ils vinrent à Jérusalem.

²ויסבו ביהודה ויקבצו את הלוים מכל ערי יהודה וראשי האבות לישראל ויבאו אל ירושלם׃

³And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as Jehovah hath spoken concerning the sons of David.

³Toute l'assemblée traita alliance avec le roi dans la maison de Dieu. Et Jehojada leur dit: Voici, le fils du roi régnera, comme l'Eternel l'a déclaré à l'égard des fils de David.

³ויכרת כל הקהל ברית בבית האלהים עם המלך ויאמר להם הנה בן המלך ימלך כאשר דבר יהוה על בני דויד׃

⁴This is the thing that ye shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the thresholds;

⁴Voici ce que vous ferez. Le tiers qui parmi vous entre en service le jour du sabbat, sacrificateurs et Lévites, fera la garde des seuils,

⁴זה הדבר אשר תעשו השלשית מכם באי השבת לכהנים וללוים לשערי הספים׃

⁵and a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of Jehovah.

⁵un autre tiers se tiendra dans la maison du roi, et un tiers à la porte de Jesod. Tout le peuple sera dans les parvis de la maison de l'Eternel.

⁵והשלשית בבית המלך והשלשית בשער היסוד וכל העם בחצרות בית יהוה׃

⁶But let none come into the house of Jehovah, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall come in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the charge of Jehovah.

⁶Que personne n'entre dans la maison de l'Eternel, excepté les sacrificateurs et les Lévites de service: ils entreront, car ils sont saints. Et tout le peuple fera la garde de l'Eternel.

⁶ואל יבוא בית יהוה כי אם הכהנים והמשרתים ללוים המה יבאו כי קדש המה וכל העם ישמרו משמרת יהוה׃

⁷And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever cometh into the house, let him be slain: and be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

⁷Les Lévites entoureront le roi de toutes parts, chacun les armes à la main, et l'on donnera la mort à quiconque entrera dans la maison: vous serez près du roi quand il entrera et quand il sortira.

⁷והקיפו הלוים את המלך סביב איש וכליו בידו והבא אל הבית יומת והיו את המלך בבאו ובצאתו׃

⁸So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath; with those that were to go out on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

⁸Les Lévites et tout Juda exécutèrent tous les ordres qu'avait donnés le sacrificateur Jehojada. Ils prirent chacun leurs gens, ceux qui entraient en service et ceux qui sortaient de service le jour du sabbat; car le sacrificateur Jehojada n'avait exempté aucune des divisions.

⁸ויעשו הלוים וכל יהודה ככל אשר צוה יהוידע הכהן ויקחו איש את אנשיו באי השבת עם יוצאי השבת כי לא פטר יהוידע הכהן את המחלקות׃

⁹And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.

⁹Le sacrificateur Jehojada remit aux chefs de centaines les lances et les boucliers, grands et petits, qui provenaient du roi David, et qui se trouvaient dans la maison de Dieu.

⁹ויתן יהוידע הכהן לשרי המאות את החניתים ואת המגנות ואת השלטים אשר למלך דויד אשר בית האלהים׃

¹⁰And he set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, by the king round about.

¹⁰Il fit entourer le roi en plaçant tout le peuple, chacun les armes à la main, depuis le côté droit jusqu'au côté gauche de la maison, près de l'autel et près de la maison.

¹⁰ויעמד את כל העם ואיש שלחו בידו מכתף הבית הימנית עד כתף הבית השמאלית למזבח ולבית על המלך סביב׃

¹¹Then they brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and [gave him] the testimony, and made him king: and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him; and they said, [Long] live the king.

¹¹On fit avancer le fils du roi, on mit sur lui le diadème et le témoignage, et on l'établit roi. Et Jehojada et ses fils l'oignirent, et ils dirent: Vive le roi!

¹¹ויוציאו את בן המלך ויתנו עליו את הנזר ואת העדות וימליכו אתו וימשחהו יהוידע ובניו ויאמרו יחי המלך׃

¹²And when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of Jehovah:

¹²ותשמע עתליהו את קול העם הרצים והמהללים את המלך ותבוא אל העם בית יהוה׃

¹³and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets; the singers also [played] on instruments of music, and led the singing of praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason! treason!

Et voici, le roi se tenait sur son estrade à l'entrée; les chefs et les trompettes étaient près du roi; tout le peuple du pays était dans la joie, et l'on sonnait des trompettes, et les chantres avec les instruments de musique dirigeaient les chants de louanges. Athalie déchira ses vêtements, et dit: Conspiration! conspiration!

¹³ותרא והנה המלך עומד על עמודו במבוא והשרים והחצצרות על המלך וכל עם הארץ שמח ותוקע בחצצרות והמשוררים בכלי השיר ומודיעים להלל ותקרע עתליהו את בגדיה ותאמר קשר קשר׃

¹⁴And Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth between the ranks; and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword: for the priest said, Slay her not in the house of Jehovah.

¹⁴Alors le sacrificateur Jehojada, faisant approcher les chefs de centaines qui étaient à la tête de l'armée, leur dit: Faites-la sortir en dehors des rangs, et que l'on tue par l'épée quiconque la suivra. Car le sacrificateur avait dit: Ne la mettez pas à mort dans la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁴ויוצא יהוידע הכהן את שרי המאות פקודי החיל ויאמר אלהם הוציאוה אל מבית השדרות והבא אחריה יומת בחרב כי אמר הכהן לא תמיתוה בית יהוה׃

¹⁵So they made way for her; and she went to the entrance of the horse gate to the king's house: and they slew her there.

¹⁵On lui fit place, et elle se rendit à la maison du roi par l'entrée de la porte des chevaux: c'est là qu'ils lui donnèrent la mort.

¹⁵וישימו לה ידים ותבוא אל מבוא שער הסוסים בית המלך וימיתוה שם׃

¹⁶And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and the king, that they should be Jehovah's people.

¹⁶Jehojada traita entre lui, tout le peuple et le roi, une alliance par laquelle ils devaient être le peuple de l'Eternel.

¹⁶ויכרת יהוידע ברית בינו ובין כל העם ובין המלך להיות לעם ליהוה׃

¹⁷And all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

¹⁷Tout le peuple entra dans la maison de Baal, et ils la démolirent; ils brisèrent ses autels et ses images, et ils tuèrent devant les autels Matthan, prêtre de Baal.

¹⁷ויבאו כל העם בית הבעל ויתצהו ואת מזבחתיו ואת צלמיו שברו ואת מתן כהן הבעל הרגו לפני המזבחות׃

¹⁸And Jehoiada appointed the officers of the house of Jehovah under the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of Jehovah, to offer the burnt-offerings of Jehovah, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David.

¹⁸Jehojada remit les fonctions de la maison de l'Eternel entre les mains des sacrificateurs, des Lévites, que David avait distribués dans la maison de l'Eternel pour qu'ils offrissent des holocaustes à l'Eternel, comme il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, au milieu des réjouissances et des chants, d'après les ordonnances de David.

¹⁸וישם יהוידע פקדת בית יהוה ביד הכהנים הלוים אשר חלק דויד על בית יהוה להעלות עלות יהוה ככתוב בתורת משה בשמחה ובשיר על ידי דויד׃

¹⁹And he set the porters at the gates of the house of Jehovah, that none that was unclean in anything should enter in.

¹⁹Il plaça les portiers aux portes de la maison de l'Eternel, afin qu'il n'entrât aucune personne souillée de quelque manière que ce fût.

¹⁹ויעמד השוערים על שערי בית יהוה ולא יבא טמא לכל דבר׃

²⁰And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of Jehovah: and they came through the upper gate unto the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

²⁰Il prit les chefs de centaines, les hommes considérés, ceux qui avaient autorité parmi le peuple, et tout le peuple du pays, et il fit descendre le roi de la maison de l'Eternel. Ils entrèrent dans la maison du roi par la porte supérieure, et ils firent asseoir le roi sur le trône royal.

²⁰ויקח את שרי המאות ואת האדירים ואת המושלים בעם ואת כל עם הארץ ויורד את המלך מבית יהוה ויבאו בתוך שער העליון בית המלך ויושיבו את המלך על כסא הממלכה׃

²¹So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. And Athaliah they had slain with the sword.

²¹Tout le peuple du pays se réjouissait, et la ville était tranquille. On avait fait mourir Athalie par l'épée.

²¹וישמחו כל עם הארץ והעיר שקטה ואת עתליהו המיתו בחרב׃
