¹And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

¹ויקחו כל עם יהודה את עזיהו והוא בן שש עשרה שנה וימליכו אתו תחת אביו אמציהו׃

²He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

²Ozias rebâtit Eloth et la fit rentrer sous la puissance de Juda, après que le roi fut couché avec ses pères.

²הוא בנה את אילות וישיבה ליהודה אחרי שכב המלך עם אבתיו׃

³Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jechiliah, of Jerusalem.

³Ozias avait seize ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Jecolia, de Jérusalem.

³בן שש עשרה שנה עזיהו במלכו וחמשים ושתים שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו יכיליה מן ירושלם׃

⁴And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

⁴Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, entièrement comme avait fait Amatsia, son père.

⁴ויעש הישר בעיני יהוה ככל אשר עשה אמציהו אביו׃

⁵And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper.

⁵Il s'appliqua à rechercher Dieu pendant la vie de Zacharie, qui avait l'intelligence des visions de Dieu; et dans le temps où il rechercha l'Eternel, Dieu le fit prospérer.

⁵ויהי לדרש אלהים בימי זכריהו המבין בראת האלהים ובימי דרשו את יהוה הצליחו האלהים׃

⁶And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in [the country of] Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

⁶Il se mit en guerre contre les Philistins; et il abattit les murs de Gath, les murs de Jabné, et les murs d'Asdod, et construisit des villes dans le territoire d'Asdod, et parmi les Philistins.

⁶ויצא וילחם בפלשתים ויפרץ את חומת גת ואת חומת יבנה ואת חומת אשדוד ויבנה ערים באשדוד ובפלשתים׃

⁷And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Meunim.

⁷Dieu l'aida contre les Philistins, contre les Arabes qui habitaient à Gur-Baal, et contre les Maonites.

⁷ויעזרהו האלהים על פלשתים ועל הערביים הישבים בגור בעל והמעונים׃

⁸And the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt; for he waxed exceeding strong.

⁸Les Ammonites faisaient des présents à Ozias, et sa renommée s'étendit jusqu'aux frontières de l'Egypte, car il devint très puissant.

⁸ויתנו העמונים מנחה לעזיהו וילך שמו עד לבוא מצרים כי החזיק עד למעלה׃

⁹Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning [of the wall], and fortified them.

⁹Ozias bâtit des tours à Jérusalem sur la porte de l'angle, sur la porte de la vallée, et sur l'angle, et il les fortifia.

⁹ויבן עזיהו מגדלים בירושלם על שער הפנה ועל שער הגיא ועל המקצוע ויחזקם׃

¹⁰And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plain: [and he had] husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved husbandry.

¹⁰Il bâtit des tours dans le désert, et il creusa beaucoup de citernes, parce qu'il avait de nombreux troupeaux dans les vallées et dans la plaine, et des laboureurs et des vignerons dans les montagnes et au Carmel, car il aimait l'agriculture.

¹⁰ויבן מגדלים במדבר ויחצב ברות רבים כי מקנה רב היה לו ובשפלה ובמישור אכרים וכרמים בהרים ובכרמל כי אהב אדמה היה׃

¹¹Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning made by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.

¹¹Ozias avait une armée de soldats qui allaient à la guerre par bandes, comptées d'après le dénombrement qu'en firent le secrétaire Jeïel et le commissaire Maaséja, et placées sous les ordres de Hanania, l'un des chefs du roi.

¹¹ויהי לעזיהו חיל עשה מלחמה יוצאי צבא לגדוד במספר פקדתם ביד יעואל הסופר ומעשיהו השוטר על יד חנניהו משרי המלך׃

¹²The whole number of the heads of fathers' [houses], even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred.

¹²Le nombre total des chefs de maisons paternelles, des vaillants guerriers, était de deux mille six cents.

¹²כל מספר ראשי האבות לגבורי חיל אלפים ושש מאות׃

¹³And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

¹³Ils commandaient à une armée de trois cent sept mille cinq cents soldats capables de soutenir le roi contre l'ennemi.

¹³ועל ידם חיל צבא שלש מאות אלף ושבעת אלפים וחמש מאות עושי מלחמה בכח חיל לעזר למלך על האויב׃

¹⁴And Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging.

¹⁴Ozias leur procura pour toute l'armée des boucliers, des lances, des casques, des cuirasses, des arcs et des frondes.

¹⁴ויכן להם עזיהו לכל הצבא מגנים ורמחים וכובעים ושרינות וקשתות ולאבני קלעים׃

¹⁵And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and upon the battlements, wherewith to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

¹⁵Il fit faire à Jérusalem des machines inventées par un ingénieur, et destinées à être placées sur les tours et sur les angles, pour lancer des flèches et de grosses pierres. Sa renommée s'étendit au loin, car il fut merveilleusement soutenu jusqu'à ce qu'il devînt puissant.

¹⁵ויעש בירושלם חשבנות מחשבת חושב להיות על המגדלים ועל הפנות לירוא בחצים ובאבנים גדלות ויצא שמו עד למרחוק כי הפליא להעזר עד כי חזק׃

¹⁶But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against Jehovah his God; for he went into the temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

¹⁶Mais lorsqu'il fut puissant, son coeur s'éleva pour le perdre. Il pécha contre l'Eternel, son Dieu: il entra dans le temple de l'Eternel pour brûler des parfums sur l'autel des parfums.

¹⁶וכחזקתו גבה לבו עד להשחית וימעל ביהוה אלהיו ויבא אל היכל יהוה להקטיר על מזבח הקטרת׃

¹⁷And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of Jehovah, that were valiant men:

¹⁷Le sacrificateur Azaria entra après lui, avec quatre-vingts sacrificateurs de l'Eternel, hommes courageux,

¹⁷ויבא אחריו עזריהו הכהן ועמו כהנים ליהוה שמונים בני חיל׃

¹⁸and they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It pertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto Jehovah, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honor from Jehovah God.

¹⁸qui s'opposèrent au roi Ozias et lui dirent: Tu n'as pas le droit, Ozias, d'offrir des parfums à l'Eternel! Ce droit appartient aux sacrificateurs, fils d'Aaron, qui ont été consacrés pour les offrir. Sors du sanctuaire, car tu commets un péché! Et cela ne tournera pas à ton honneur devant l'Eternel Dieu.

¹⁸ויעמדו על עזיהו המלך ויאמרו לו לא לך עזיהו להקטיר ליהוה כי לכהנים בני אהרן המקדשים להקטיר צא מן המקדש כי מעלת ולא לך לכבוד מיהוה אלהים׃

¹⁹Then Uzziah was wroth; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy brake forth in his forehead before the priests in the house of Jehovah, beside the altar of incense.

¹⁹La colère s'empara d'Ozias, qui tenait un encensoir à la main. Et comme il s'irritait contre les sacrificateurs, la lèpre éclata sur son front, en présence des sacrificateurs, dans la maison de l'Eternel, près de l'autel des parfums.

¹⁹ויזעף עזיהו ובידו מקטרת להקטיר ובזעפו עם הכהנים והצרעת זרחה במצחו לפני הכהנים בבית יהוה מעל למזבח הקטרת׃

²⁰And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out quickly from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because Jehovah had smitten him.

²⁰Le souverain sacrificateur Azaria et tous les sacrificateurs portèrent les regards sur lui, et voici, il avait la lèpre au front. Ils le mirent précipitamment dehors, et lui-même se hâta de sortir, parce que l'Eternel l'avait frappé.

²⁰ויפן אליו עזריהו כהן הראש וכל הכהנים והנה הוא מצרע במצחו ויבהלוהו משם וגם הוא נדחף לצאת כי נגעו יהוה׃

²¹And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of Jehovah: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.

²¹Le roi Ozias fut lépreux jusqu'au jour de sa mort, et il demeura dans une maison écartée comme lépreux, car il fut exclu de la maison de l'Eternel. Et Jotham, son fils, était à la tête de la maison du roi et jugeait le peuple du pays.

²¹ויהי עזיהו המלך מצרע עד יום מותו וישב בית החפשות מצרע כי נגזר מבית יהוה ויותם בנו על בית המלך שופט את עם הארץ׃

²²Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

²²Le reste des actions d'Ozias, les premières et les dernières, a été écrit par Esaïe, fils d'Amots, le prophète.

²²ויתר דברי עזיהו הראשנים והאחרנים כתב ישעיהו בן אמוץ הנביא׃

²³So Uzziah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

²³Ozias se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra avec ses pères dans le champ de la sépulture des rois, car on disait: Il est lépreux. Et Jotham, son fils, régna à sa place.

²³וישכב עזיהו עם אבתיו ויקברו אתו עם אבתיו בשדה הקבורה אשר למלכים כי אמרו מצורע הוא וימלך יותם בנו תחתיו׃
