¹Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.

²But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, even him and his nurse, [and put them] in the bedchamber; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain;

²Mais Joschéba, fille du roi Joram, soeur d'Achazia, prit Joas, fils d'Achazia, et l'enleva du milieu des fils du roi, quand on les fit mourir: elle le mit avec sa nourrice dans la chambre des lits. Il fut ainsi dérobé aux regards d'Athalie, et ne fut point mis à mort.

²ותקח יהושבע בת המלך יורם אחות אחזיהו את יואש בן אחזיה ותגנב אתו מתוך בני המלך הממותתים אתו ואת מינקתו בחדר המטות ויסתרו אתו מפני עתליהו ולא הומת׃

³And he was with her hid in the house of Jehovah six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.

³Il resta six ans caché avec Joschéba dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et c'était Athalie qui régnait dans le pays.

³ויהי אתה בית יהוה מתחבא שש שנים ועתליה מלכת על הארץ׃

⁴And in the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of Jehovah; and he made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Jehovah, and showed them the king's son.

⁴La septième année, Jehojada envoya chercher les chefs de centaines des Kéréthiens et des coureurs, et il les fit venir auprès de lui dans la maison de l'Eternel. Il traita alliance avec eux et les fit jurer dans la maison de l'Eternel, et il leur montra le fils du roi.

⁴ובשנה השביעית שלח יהוידע ויקח את שרי המאיות לכרי ולרצים ויבא אתם אליו בית יהוה ויכרת להם ברית וישבע אתם בבית יהוה וירא אתם את בן המלך׃

⁵And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king's house;

⁵Puis il leur donna ses ordres, en disant: Voici ce que vous ferez. Parmi ceux de vous qui entrent en service le jour du sabbat, un tiers doit monter la garde à la maison du roi,

⁵ויצום לאמר זה הדבר אשר תעשון השלשית מכם באי השבת ושמרי משמרת בית המלך׃

⁶And a third part shall be at the gate Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.

⁶un tiers à la porte de Sur, et un tiers à la porte derrière les coureurs: vous veillerez à la garde de la maison, de manière à en empêcher l'entrée.

⁶והשלשית בשער סור והשלשית בשער אחר הרצים ושמרתם את משמרת הבית מסח׃

⁷And the two companies of you, even all that go forth on the sabbath, shall keep the watch of the house of Jehovah about the king.

⁷Vos deux autres divisions, tous ceux qui sortent de service le jour du sabbat feront la garde de la maison de l'Eternel auprès du roi:

⁷ושתי הידות בכם כל יצאי השבת ושמרו את משמרת בית יהוה אל המלך׃

⁸And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that cometh within the ranks, let him be slain: and be ye with the king when he goeth out, and when he cometh in.

⁸vous entourerez le roi de toutes parts, chacun les armes à la main, et l'on donnera la mort à quiconque s'avancera dans les rangs; vous serez près du roi quand il sortira et quand il entrera.

⁸והקפתם על המלך סביב איש וכליו בידו והבא אל השדרות יומת והיו את המלך בצאתו ובבאו׃

⁹And the captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with those that were to go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

⁹Les chefs de centaines exécutèrent tous les ordres qu'avait donnés le sacrificateur Jehojada. Ils prirent chacun leurs gens, ceux qui entraient en service et ceux qui sortaient de service le jour du sabbat, et ils se rendirent vers le sacrificateur Jehojada.

⁹ויעשו שרי המאיות ככל אשר צוה יהוידע הכהן ויקחו איש את אנשיו באי השבת עם יצאי השבת ויבאו אל יהוידע הכהן׃

¹⁰And the priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been king David's, which were in the house of Jehovah.

¹⁰Le sacrificateur remit aux chefs de centaines les lances et les boucliers qui provenaient du roi David, et qui se trouvaient dans la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁰ויתן הכהן לשרי המאיות את החנית ואת השלטים אשר למלך דוד אשר בבית יהוה׃

¹¹And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, by the king round about.

¹¹Les coureurs, chacun les armes à la main, entourèrent le roi, en se plaçant depuis le côté droit jusqu'au côté gauche de la maison, près de l'autel et près de la maison.

¹¹ויעמדו הרצים איש וכליו בידו מכתף הבית הימנית עד כתף הבית השמאלית למזבח ולבית על המלך סביב׃

¹²Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and [gave him] the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, [Long] live the king.

¹²Le sacrificateur fit avancer le fils du roi, et il mit sur lui le diadème et le témoignage. Ils l'établirent roi et l'oignirent, et frappant des mains, ils dirent: Vive le roi!

¹²ויוצא את בן המלך ויתן עליו את הנזר ואת העדות וימלכו אתו וימשחהו ויכו כף ויאמרו יחי המלך׃

¹³And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard [and of] the people, she came to the people into the house of Jehovah:

¹³Athalie entendit le bruit des coureurs et du peuple, et elle vint vers le peuple à la maison de l'Eternel.

¹³ותשמע עתליה את קול הרצין העם ותבא אל העם בית יהוה׃

¹⁴and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the manner was, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason! treason!

¹⁴Elle regarda. Et voici, le roi se tenait sur l'estrade, selon l'usage; les chefs et les trompettes étaient près du roi: tout le peuple du pays était dans la joie, et l'on sonnait des trompettes. Athalie déchira ses vêtements, et cria: Conspiration! conspiration!

¹⁴ותרא והנה המלך עמד על העמוד כמשפט והשרים והחצצרות אל המלך וכל עם הארץ שמח ותקע בחצצרות ותקרע עתליה את בגדיה ותקרא קשר קשר׃

¹⁵And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth between the ranks; and him that followeth her slay with the sword. For the priest said, Let her not be slain in the house of Jehovah.

¹⁵Alors le sacrificateur Jehojada donna cet ordre aux chefs de centaines, qui étaient à la tête de l'armée: Faites-la sortir en dehors des rangs, et tuez par l'épée quiconque la suivra. Car le sacrificateur avait dit: Qu'elle ne soit pas mise à mort dans la maison de l'Eternel!

¹⁵ויצו יהוידע הכהן את שרי המאיות פקדי החיל ויאמר אליהם הוציאו אתה אל מבית לשדרת והבא אחריה המת בחרב כי אמר הכהן אל תומת בית יהוה׃

¹⁶So they made way for her; and she went by the way of the horses' entry to the king's house: and there was she slain.

¹⁶On lui fit place, et elle se rendit à la maison du roi par le chemin de l'entrée des chevaux: c'est là qu'elle fut tuée.

¹⁶וישמו לה ידים ותבוא דרך מבוא הסוסים בית המלך ותומת שם׃

¹⁷And Jehoiada made a covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people, that they should be Jehovah's people; between the king also and the people.

¹⁷Jehojada traita entre l'Eternel, le roi et le peuple, l'alliance par laquelle ils devaient être le peuple de l'Eternel; il établit aussi l'alliance entre le roi et le peuple.

¹⁷ויכרת יהוידע את הברית בין יהוה ובין המלך ובין העם להיות לעם ליהוה ובין המלך ובין העם׃

¹⁸And all the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Jehovah.

¹⁸Tout le peuple du pays entra dans la maison de Baal, et ils la démolirent; ils brisèrent entièrement ses autels et ses images, et ils tuèrent devant les autels Matthan, prêtre de Baal. Le sacrificateur Jehojada mit des surveillants dans la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁸ויבאו כל עם הארץ בית הבעל ויתצהו את מזבחתו ואת צלמיו שברו היטב ואת מתן כהן הבעל הרגו לפני המזבחות וישם הכהן פקדות על בית יהוה׃

¹⁹And he took the captains over hundreds, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of Jehovah, and came by the way of the gate of the guard unto the king's house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

¹⁹Il prit les chefs de centaines, les Kéréthiens et les coureurs, et tout le peuple du pays; et ils firent descendre le roi de la maison de l'Eternel, et ils entrèrent dans la maison du roi par le chemin de la porte des coureurs. Et Joas s'assit sur le trône des rois.

¹⁹ויקח את שרי המאות ואת הכרי ואת הרצים ואת כל עם הארץ וירידו את המלך מבית יהוה ויבואו דרך שער הרצים בית המלך וישב על כסא המלכים׃

²⁰So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. And Athaliah they had slain with the sword at the king's house.

²⁰Tout le peuple du pays se réjouissait, et la ville était tranquille. On avait fait mourir Athalie par l'épée dans la maison du roi.

²⁰וישמח כל עם הארץ והעיר שקטה ואת עתליהו המיתו בחרב בית מלך׃

²¹Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

²¹Joas avait sept ans lorsqu'il devint roi.

²¹בן שבע שנים יהואש במלכו׃
