¹In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.

¹La septième année de Jéhu, Joas devint roi, et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Tsibja, de Beer-Schéba.

¹בשנת שבע ליהוא מלך יהואש וארבעים שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו צביה מבאר שבע׃

²And Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

²Joas fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel tout le temps qu'il suivit les directions du sacrificateur Jehojada.

²ויעש יהואש הישר בעיני יהוה כל ימיו אשר הורהו יהוידע הכהן׃

³Howbeit the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

³Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent point; le peuple offrait encore des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux.

³רק הבמות לא סרו עוד העם מזבחים ומקטרים בבמות׃

⁴And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the hallowed things that is brought into the house of Jehovah, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of Jehovah,

⁴Joas dit aux sacrificateurs: Tout l'argent consacré qu'on apporte dans la maison de l'Eternel, l'argent ayant cours, savoir l'argent pour le rachat des personnes d'après l'estimation qui en est faite, et tout l'argent qu'il vient au coeur de quelqu'un d'apporter à la maison de l'Eternel,

⁴ויאמר יהואש אל הכהנים כל כסף הקדשים אשר יובא בית יהוה כסף עובר איש כסף נפשות ערכו כל כסף אשר יעלה על לב איש להביא בית יהוה׃

⁵let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

⁵que les sacrificateurs le prennent chacun de la part des gens de sa connaissance, et qu'ils l'emploient à réparer la maison partout où il se trouvera quelque chose à réparer.

⁵יקחו להם הכהנים איש מאת מכרו והם יחזקו את בדק הבית לכל אשר ימצא שם בדק׃

⁶But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

⁶Mais il arriva que, la vingt-troisième année du roi Joas, les sacrificateurs n'avaient point réparé ce qui était à réparer à la maison.

⁶ויהי בשנת עשרים ושלש שנה למלך יהואש לא חזקו הכהנים את בדק הבית׃

⁷Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the [other] priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore take no [more] money from your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

⁷Le roi Joas appela le sacrificateur Jehojada et les autres sacrificateurs, et leur dit: Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas réparé ce qui est à réparer à la maison? Maintenant, vous ne prendrez plus l'argent de vos connaissances, mais vous le livrerez pour les réparations de la maison.

⁷ויקרא המלך יהואש ליהוידע הכהן ולכהנים ויאמר אלהם מדוע אינכם מחזקים את בדק הבית ועתה אל תקחו כסף מאת מכריכם כי לבדק הבית תתנהו׃

⁸And the priests consented that they should take no [more] money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.

⁸Les sacrificateurs convinrent de ne pas prendre l'argent du peuple, et de n'être pas chargés des réparations de la maison.

⁸ויאתו הכהנים לבלתי קחת כסף מאת העם ולבלתי חזק את בדק הבית׃

⁹But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of Jehovah: and the priests that kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah.

⁹Alors le sacrificateur Jehojada prit un coffre, perça un trou dans son couvercle, et le plaça à côté de l'autel, à droite, sur le passage par lequel on entrait à la maison de l'Eternel. Les sacrificateurs qui avaient la garde du seuil y mettaient tout l'argent qu'on apportait dans la maison de l'Eternel.

⁹ויקח יהוידע הכהן ארון אחד ויקב חר בדלתו ויתן אתו אצל המזבח בימין בבוא איש בית יהוה ונתנו שמה הכהנים שמרי הסף את כל הכסף המובא בית יהוה׃

¹⁰And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of Jehovah.

¹⁰Quand ils voyaient qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent dans le coffre, le secrétaire du roi montait avec le souverain sacrificateur, et ils serraient et comptaient l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁰ויהי כראותם כי רב הכסף בארון ויעל ספר המלך והכהן הגדול ויצרו וימנו את הכסף הנמצא בית יהוה׃

¹¹And they gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of Jehovah: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, that wrought upon the house of Jehovah,

¹¹Ils remettaient l'argent pesé entre les mains de ceux qui étaient chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et l'on employait cet argent pour les charpentiers et pour les ouvriers qui travaillaient à la maison de l'Eternel,

¹¹ונתנו את הכסף המתכן על יד עשי המלאכה הפקדים בית יהוה ויוציאהו לחרשי העץ ולבנים העשים בית יהוה׃

¹²and to the masons and the hewers of stone, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of Jehovah, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

¹²pour les maçons et les tailleurs de pierres, pour les achats de bois et de pierres de taille nécessaires aux réparations de la maison de l'Eternel, et pour toutes les dépenses concernant les réparations de la maison.

¹²ולגדרים ולחצבי האבן ולקנות עצים ואבני מחצב לחזק את בדק בית יהוה ולכל אשר יצא על הבית לחזקה׃

¹³But there were not made for the house of Jehovah cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah;

¹³Mais, avec l'argent qu'on apportait dans la maison de l'Eternel, on ne fit pour la maison de l'Eternel ni bassins d'argent, ni couteaux, ni coupes, ni trompettes, ni aucun ustensile d'or ou d'argent:

¹³אך לא יעשה בית יהוה ספות כסף מזמרות מזרקות חצצרות כל כלי זהב וכלי כסף מן הכסף המובא בית יהוה׃

¹⁴for they gave that to them that did the work, and repaired therewith the house of Jehovah.

¹⁴on le donnait à ceux qui faisaient l'ouvrage, afin qu'ils l'employassent à réparer la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁴כי לעשי המלאכה יתנהו וחזקו בו את בית יהוה׃

¹⁵Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to give to them that did the work; for they dealt faithfully.

¹⁵On ne demandait pas de compte aux hommes entre les mains desquels on remettait l'argent pour qu'ils le donnassent à ceux qui faisaient l'ouvrage, car ils agissaient avec probité.

¹⁵ולא יחשבו את האנשים אשר יתנו את הכסף על ידם לתת לעשי המלאכה כי באמנה הם עשים׃

¹⁶The money for the trespass-offerings, and the money for the sin-offerings, was not brought into the house of Jehovah: it was the priests'.

¹⁶L'argent des sacrifices de culpabilité et des sacrifices d'expiation n'était point apporté dans la maison de l'Eternel: il était pour les sacrificateurs.

¹⁶כסף אשם וכסף חטאות לא יובא בית יהוה לכהנים יהיו׃

¹⁷Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

¹⁷Alors Hazaël, roi de Syrie, monta et se battit contre Gath, dont il s'empara. Hazaël avait l'intention de monter contre Jérusalem.

¹⁷אז יעלה חזאל מלך ארם וילחם על גת וילכדה וישם חזאל פניו לעלות על ירושלם׃

¹⁸And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

¹⁸Joas, roi de Juda, prit toutes les choses consacrées, ce qui avait été consacré par Josaphat, par Joram et par Achazia, ses pères, rois de Juda, ce qu'il avait consacré lui-même, et tout l'or qui se trouvait dans les trésors de la maison de l'Eternel et de la maison du roi, et il envoya le tout à Hazaël, roi de Syrie, qui ne monta pas contre Jérusalem.

¹⁸ויקח יהואש מלך יהודה את כל הקדשים אשר הקדישו יהושפט ויהורם ואחזיהו אבתיו מלכי יהודה ואת קדשיו ואת כל הזהב הנמצא באצרות בית יהוה ובית המלך וישלח לחזאל מלך ארם ויעל מעל ירושלם׃

¹⁹Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

¹⁹Le reste des actions de Joas, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?

¹⁹ויתר דברי יואש וכל אשר עשה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃

²⁰And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and smote Joash at the house of Millo, [on the way] that goeth down to Silla.

²⁰Ses serviteurs se soulevèrent et formèrent une conspiration; ils frappèrent Joas dans la maison de Millo, qui est à la descente de Silla.

²⁰ויקמו עבדיו ויקשרו קשר ויכו את יואש בית מלא היורד סלא׃

²¹For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

²¹Jozacar, fils de Schimeath, et Jozabad, fils de Schomer, ses serviteurs, le frappèrent, et il mourut. On l'enterra avec ses pères, dans la ville de David. Et Amatsia, son fils, régna à sa place.

²¹ויוזבד בן שמעת ויהוזבד בן שמר עבדיו הכהו וימת ויקברו אתו עם אבתיו בעיר דוד וימלך אמציה בנו תחתיו׃
