1In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] seventeen years.
1La vingt-troisième année de Joas, fils d'Achazia, roi de Juda, Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, régna sur Israël à Samarie. Il régna dix-sept ans.
1בשנת עשרים ושלש שנה ליואש בן אחזיהו מלך יהודה מלך יהואחז בן יהוא על ישראל בשמרון שבע עשרה שנה׃
2And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
2Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel; il commit les mêmes péchés que Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël, et il ne s'en détourna point.
2ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה וילך אחר חטאת ירבעם בן נבט אשר החטיא את ישראל לא סר ממנה׃
3And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually.
3La colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et entre les mains de Ben-Hadad, fils de Hazaël, tout le temps que ces rois vécurent.
3ויחר אף יהוה בישראל ויתנם ביד חזאל מלך ארם וביד בן הדד בן חזאל כל הימים׃
4And Jehoahaz besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened unto him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how that the king of Syria oppressed them.
4Joachaz implora l'Eternel. L'Eternel l'exauça, car il vit l'oppression sous laquelle le roi de Syrie tenait Israël,
4ויחל יהואחז את פני יהוה וישמע אליו יהוה כי ראה את לחץ ישראל כי לחץ אתם מלך ארם׃
5(And Jehovah gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as beforetime.
5et l'Eternel donna un libérateur à Israël. Les enfants d'Israël échappèrent aux mains des Syriens, et ils habitèrent dans leurs tentes comme auparavant.
5ויתן יהוה לישראל מושיע ויצאו מתחת יד ארם וישבו בני ישראל באהליהם כתמול שלשום׃
6Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin, but walked therein: and there remained the Asherah also in Samaria.)
6Mais ils ne se détournèrent point des péchés de la maison de Jéroboam, qui avait fait pécher Israël; ils s'y livrèrent aussi, et même l'idole d'Astarté était debout à Samarie.
6אך לא סרו מחטאות בית ירבעם אשר החטי את ישראל בה הלך וגם האשרה עמדה בשמרון׃
7For he left not to Jehoahaz of the people save fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them, and made them like the dust in threshing.
7De tout le peuple de Joachaz l'Eternel ne lui avait laissé que cinquante cavaliers, dix chars, et dix mille hommes de pied; car le roi de Syrie les avait fait périr et les avait rendus semblables à la poussière qu'on foule aux pieds.
7כי לא השאיר ליהואחז עם כי אם חמשים פרשים ועשרה רכב ועשרת אלפים רגלי כי אבדם מלך ארם וישמם כעפר לדש׃
8Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
8Le reste des actions de Joachaz, tout ce qu'il a fait, et ses exploits, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?
8ויתר דברי יהואחז וכל אשר עשה וגבורתו הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל׃
9And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
9Joachaz se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra à Samarie. Et Joas, son fils, régna à sa place.
9וישכב יהואחז עם אבתיו ויקברהו בשמרון וימלך יואש בנו תחתיו׃
10In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] sixteen years.
10La trente-septième année de Joas, roi de Juda, Joas, fils de Joachaz, régna sur Israël à Samarie. Il régna seize ans.
10בשנת שלשים ושבע שנה ליואש מלך יהודה מלך יהואש בן יהואחז על ישראל בשמרון שש עשרה שנה׃
11And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; but he walked therein.
11Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel; il ne se détourna d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël, et il s'y livra comme lui.
11ויעשה הרע בעיני יהוה לא סר מכל חטאות ירבעם בן נבט אשר החטיא את ישראל בה הלך׃
12Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
12Le reste des actions de Joas, tout ce qu'il a fait, ses exploits, et la guerre qu'il eut avec Amatsia, roi de Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?
12ויתר דברי יואש וכל אשר עשה וגבורתו אשר נלחם עם אמציה מלך יהודה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל׃
13And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
13Joas se coucha avec ses pères. Et Jéroboam s'assit sur son trône. Joas fut enterré à Samarie avec les rois d'Israël.
13וישכב יואש עם אבתיו וירבעם ישב על כסאו ויקבר יואש בשמרון עם מלכי ישראל׃
14Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died: and Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over him, and said, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!
14Elisée était atteint de la maladie dont il mourut; et Joas, roi d'Israël, descendit vers lui, pleura sur son visage, et dit: Mon père! mon père! Char d'Israël et sa cavalerie!
14ואלישע חלה את חליו אשר ימות בו וירד אליו יואש מלך ישראל ויבך על פניו ויאמר אבי אבי רכב ישראל ופרשיו׃
15And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows; and he took unto him bow and arrows.
15Elisée lui dit: Prends un arc et des flèches. Et il prit un arc et des flèches.
15ויאמר לו אלישע קח קשת וחצים ויקח אליו קשת וחצים׃
16And he said to the king of Israel, Put thy hand upon the bow; and he put his hand [upon it]. And Elisha laid his hands upon the king's hands.
16Puis Elisée dit au roi d'Israël: Bande l'arc avec ta main. Et quand il l'eut bandé de sa main, Elisée mit ses mains sur les mains du roi,
16ויאמר למלך ישראל הרכב ידך על הקשת וירכב ידו וישם אלישע ידיו על ידי המלך׃
17And he said, Open the window eastward; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, Jehovah's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
17et il dit: Ouvre la fenêtre à l'orient. Et il l'ouvrit. Elisée dit: Tire. Et il tira. Elisée dit: C'est une flèche de délivrance de la part de l'Eternel, une flèche de délivrance contre les Syriens; tu battras les Syriens à Aphek jusqu'à leur extermination.
17ויאמר פתח החלון קדמה ויפתח ויאמר אלישע ירה ויור ויאמר חץ תשועה ליהוה וחץ תשועה בארם והכית את ארם באפק עד כלה׃
18And he said, Take the arrows; and he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground; and he smote thrice, and stayed.
18Elisée dit encore: Prends les flèches. Et il les prit. Elisée dit au roi d'Israël: Frappe contre terre. Et il frappa trois fois, et s'arrêta.
18ויאמר קח החצים ויקח ויאמר למלך ישראל הך ארצה ויך שלש פעמים ויעמד׃
19And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times: then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it, whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
19L'homme de Dieu s'irrita contre lui, et dit: Il fallait frapper cinq ou six fois; alors tu aurais battu les Syriens jusqu'à leur extermination; maintenant tu les battras trois fois.
19ויקצף עליו איש האלהים ויאמר להכות חמש או שש פעמים אז הכית את ארם עד כלה ועתה שלש פעמים תכה את ארם׃
20And Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
20Elisée mourut, et on l'enterra. L'année suivante, des troupes de Moabites pénétrèrent dans le pays.
20וימת אלישע ויקברהו וגדודי מואב יבאו בארץ בא שנה׃
21And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
21Et comme on enterrait un homme, voici, on aperçut une de ces troupes, et l'on jeta l'homme dans le sépulcre d'Elisée. L'homme alla toucher les os d'Elisée, et il reprit vie et se leva sur ses pieds.
21ויהי הם קברים איש והנה ראו את הגדוד וישליכו את האיש בקבר אלישע וילך ויגע האיש בעצמות אלישע ויחי ויקם על רגליו׃
22And Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
22Hazaël, roi de Syrie, avait opprimé Israël pendant toute la vie de Joachaz.
22וחזאל מלך ארם לחץ את ישראל כל ימי יהואחז׃
23But Jehovah was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
23Mais l'Eternel leur fit miséricorde et eut compassion d'eux, il tourna sa face vers eux à cause de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, il ne voulut pas les détruire, et jusqu'à présent il ne les a pas rejetés de sa face.
23ויחן יהוה אתם וירחמם ויפן אליהם למען בריתו את אברהם יצחק ויעקב ולא אבה השחיתם ולא השליכם מעל פניו עד עתה׃
24And Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.
24Hazaël, roi de Syrie, mourut, et Ben-Hadad, son fils, régna à sa place.
24וימת חזאל מלך ארם וימלך בן הדד בנו תחתיו׃
25And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash smite him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
25Joas, fils de Joachaz, reprit des mains de Ben-Hadad, fils de Hazaël, les villes enlevées par Hazaël à Joachaz, son père, pendant la guerre. Joas le battit trois fois, et il recouvra les villes d'Israël.
25וישב יהואש בן יהואחז ויקח את הערים מיד בן הדד בן חזאל אשר לקח מיד יהואחז אביו במלחמה שלש פעמים הכהו יואש וישב את ערי ישראל׃
