¹In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

¹בשנת שתים ליואש בן יואחז מלך ישראל מלך אמציהו בן יואש מלך יהודה׃

²He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

²Il avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Joaddan, de Jérusalem.

²בן עשרים וחמש שנה היה במלכו ועשרים ותשע שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו יהועדין מן ירושלם׃

³And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

³Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, non pas toutefois comme David, son père; il agit entièrement comme avait agi Joas, son père.

³ויעש הישר בעיני יהוה רק לא כדוד אביו ככל אשר עשה יואש אביו עשה׃

⁴Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

⁴Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent point; le peuple offrait encore des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux.

⁴רק הבמות לא סרו עוד העם מזבחים ומקטרים בבמות׃

⁵And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father:

⁵Lorsque la royauté fut affermie entre ses mains, il frappa ses serviteurs qui avaient tué le roi, son père.

⁵ויהי כאשר חזקה הממלכה בידו ויך את עבדיו המכים את המלך אביו׃

⁶but the children of the murderers he put not to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

⁶Mais il ne fit pas mourir les fils des meurtriers, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, où l'Eternel donne ce commandement: On ne fera point mourir les pères pour les enfants, et l'on ne fera point mourir les enfants pour les pères; mais on fera mourir chacun pour son péché.

⁶ואת בני המכים לא המית ככתוב בספר תורת משה אשר צוה יהוה לאמר לא יומתו אבות על בנים ובנים לא יומתו על אבות כי אם איש בחטאו ימות׃

⁷He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day.

⁷Il battit dix mille Edomites dans la vallée du sel; et durant la guerre, il prit Séla, et l'appela Joktheel, nom qu'elle a conservé jusqu'à ce jour.

⁷הוא הכה את אדום בגיא המלח עשרת אלפים ותפש את הסלע במלחמה ויקרא את שמה יקתאל עד היום הזה׃

⁸Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

⁸Alors Amatsia envoya des messagers à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël, pour lui dire: Viens, voyons-nous en face!

⁸אז שלח אמציה מלאכים אל יהואש בן יהואחז בן יהוא מלך ישראל לאמר לכה נתראה פנים׃

⁹And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.

⁹Et Joas, roi d'Israël, fit dire à Amatsia, roi de Juda: L'épine du Liban envoya dire au cèdre du Liban: Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils! Et les bêtes sauvages qui sont au Liban passèrent et foulèrent l'épine.

⁹וישלח יהואש מלך ישראל אל אמציהו מלך יהודה לאמר החוח אשר בלבנון שלח אל הארז אשר בלבנון לאמר תנה את בתך לבני לאשה ותעבר חית השדה אשר בלבנון ותרמס את החוח׃

¹⁰Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

¹⁰Tu as battu les Edomites, et ton coeur s'élève. Jouis de ta gloire, et reste chez toi. Pourquoi t'engager dans une malheureuse entreprise, qui amènerait ta ruine et celle de Juda?

¹⁰הכה הכית את אדום ונשאך לבך הכבד ושב בביתך ולמה תתגרה ברעה ונפלתה אתה ויהודה עמך׃

¹¹But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

¹¹Mais Amatsia ne l'écouta pas. Et Joas, roi d'Israël, monta; et ils se virent en face, lui et Amatsia, roi de Juda, à Beth-Schémesch, qui est à Juda.

¹¹ולא שמע אמציהו ויעל יהואש מלך ישראל ויתראו פנים הוא ואמציהו מלך יהודה בבית שמש אשר ליהודה׃

¹²And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

¹²Juda fut battu par Israël, et chacun s'enfuit dans sa tente.

¹²וינגף יהודה לפני ישראל וינסו איש לאהלו׃

¹³And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

¹³Joas, roi d'Israël, prit à Beth-Schémesch Amatsia, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d'Achazia. Il vint à Jérusalem, et fit une brèche de quatre cents coudées dans la muraille de Jérusalem, depuis la porte d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'angle.

¹³ואת אמציהו מלך יהודה בן יהואש בן אחזיהו תפש יהואש מלך ישראל בבית שמש ויבאו ירושלם ויפרץ בחומת ירושלם בשער אפרים עד שער הפנה ארבע מאות אמה׃

¹⁴And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

¹⁴Il prit tout l'or et l'argent et tous les vases qui se trouvaient dans la maison de l'Eternel et dans les trésors de la maison du roi; il prit aussi des otages, et il retourna à Samarie.

¹⁴ולקח את כל הזהב והכסף ואת כל הכלים הנמצאים בית יהוה ובאצרות בית המלך ואת בני התערבות וישב שמרונה׃

¹⁵Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

¹⁵Le reste des actions de Joas, ce qu'il a fait, ses exploits, et la guerre qu'il eut avec Amatsia, roi de Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

¹⁵ויתר דברי יהואש אשר עשה וגבורתו ואשר נלחם עם אמציהו מלך יהודה הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל׃

¹⁶And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁶Joas se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré à Samarie avec les rois d'Israël. Et Jéroboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

¹⁶וישכב יהואש עם אבתיו ויקבר בשמרון עם מלכי ישראל וימלך ירבעם בנו תחתיו׃

¹⁷And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

¹⁷Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël.

¹⁷ויחי אמציהו בן יואש מלך יהודה אחרי מות יהואש בן יהואחז מלך ישראל חמש עשרה שנה׃

¹⁸Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

¹⁸Le reste des actions d'Amatsia, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?

¹⁸ויתר דברי אמציהו הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃

¹⁹And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

¹⁹On forma contre lui une conspiration à Jérusalem, et il s'enfuit à Lakis; mais on le poursuivit à Lakis, où on le fit mourir.

¹⁹ויקשרו עליו קשר בירושלם וינס לכישה וישלחו אחריו לכישה וימתהו שם׃

²⁰And they brought him upon horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

²⁰On le transporta sur des chevaux, et il fut enterré à Jérusalem avec ses pères, dans la ville de David.

²⁰וישאו אתו על הסוסים ויקבר בירושלם עם אבתיו בעיר דוד׃

²¹And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

²¹Et tout le peuple de Juda prit Azaria, âgé de seize ans, et l'établit roi à la place de son père Amatsia.

²¹ויקחו כל עם יהודה את עזריה והוא בן שש עשרה שנה וימלכו אתו תחת אביו אמציהו׃

²²He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

²²Azaria rebâtit Elath et la fit rentrer sous la puissance de Juda, après que le roi fut couché avec ses pères.

²²הוא בנה את אילת וישבה ליהודה אחרי שכב המלך עם אבתיו׃

²³In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, [and reigned] forty and one years.

²³La quinzième année d'Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d'Israël, régna à Samarie. Il régna quarante et un ans.

²³בשנת חמש עשרה שנה לאמציהו בן יואש מלך יהודה מלך ירבעם בן יואש מלך ישראל בשמרון ארבעים ואחת שנה׃

²⁴And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

²⁴Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel; il ne se détourna d'aucun des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël.

²⁴ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה לא סר מכל חטאות ירבעם בן נבט אשר החטיא את ישראל׃

²⁵He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

²⁵Il rétablit les limites d'Israël depuis l'entrée de Hamath jusqu'à la mer de la plaine, selon la parole que l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, avait prononcée par son serviteur Jonas, le prophète, fils d'Amitthaï, de Gath-Hépher.

²⁵הוא השיב את גבול ישראל מלבוא חמת עד ים הערבה כדבר יהוה אלהי ישראל אשר דבר ביד עבדו יונה בן אמתי הנביא אשר מגת החפר׃

²⁶For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

²⁶Car l'Eternel vit l'affliction d'Israël à son comble et l'extrémité à laquelle se trouvaient réduits esclaves et hommes libres, sans qu'il y eût personne pour venir au secours d'Israël.

²⁶כי ראה יהוה את עני ישראל מרה מאד ואפס עצור ואפס עזוב ואין עזר לישראל׃

²⁷And Jehovah said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

²⁷Or l'Eternel n'avait point résolu d'effacer le nom d'Israël de dessous les cieux, et il les délivra par Jéroboam, fils de Joas.

²⁷ולא דבר יהוה למחות את שם ישראל מתחת השמים ויושיעם ביד ירבעם בן יואש׃

²⁸Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, [which had belonged] to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁸Le reste des actions de Jéroboam, tout ce qu'il a fait, ses exploits à la guerre, et comment il fit rentrer sous la puissance d'Israël Damas et Hamath qui avaient appartenu à Juda, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?

²⁸ויתר דברי ירבעם וכל אשר עשה וגבורתו אשר נלחם ואשר השיב את דמשק ואת חמת ליהודה בישראל הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל׃

²⁹And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.

²⁹Jéroboam se coucha avec ses pères, avec les rois d'Israël. Et Zacharie, son fils, régna à sa place.

²⁹וישכב ירבעם עם אבתיו עם מלכי ישראל וימלך זכריה בנו תחתיו׃
