1Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse saith, And the man who was raised on high saith, The anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweet psalmist of Israel:

1ואלה דברי דוד האחרנים נאם דוד בן ישי ונאם הגבר הקם על משיח אלהי יעקב ונעים זמרות ישראל׃
2The Spirit of Jehovah spake by me, And his word was upon my tongue.
2L'esprit de l'Eternel parle par moi, Et sa parole est sur ma langue.
2רוח יהוה דבר בי ומלתו על לשוני׃
3The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spake to me: One that ruleth over men righteously, That ruleth in the fear of God,
3Le Dieu d'Israël a parlé, Le rocher d'Israël m'a dit: Celui qui règne parmi les hommes avec justice, Celui qui règne dans la crainte de Dieu,
3אמר אלהי ישראל לי דבר צור ישראל מושל באדם צדיק מושל יראת אלהים׃
4[He shall be] as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, A morning without clouds, [When] the tender grass [springeth] out of the earth, Through clear shining after rain.
4Est pareil à la lumière du matin, quand le soleil brille Et que la matinée est sans nuages; Ses rayons après la pluie font sortir de terre la verdure.
4וכאור בקר יזרח שמש בקר לא עבות מנגה ממטר דשא מארץ׃
5Verily my house is not so with God; Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in all things, and sure: For it is all my salvation, and all [my] desire, Although he maketh it not to grow.
5N'en est-il pas ainsi de ma maison devant Dieu, Puisqu'il a fait avec moi une alliance éternelle, En tous points bien réglée et offrant pleine sécurité? Ne fera-t-il pas germer tout mon salut et tous mes désirs?
5כי לא כן ביתי עם אל כי ברית עולם שם לי ערוכה בכל ושמרה כי כל ישעי וכל חפץ כי לא יצמיח׃
6But the ungodly shall be all of them as thorns to be thrust away, Because they cannot be taken with the hand
6Mais les méchants sont tous comme des épines que l'on rejette, Et que l'on ne prend pas avec la main;
6ובליעל כקוץ מנד כלהם כי לא ביד יקחו׃
7But the man that toucheth them Must be armed with iron and the staff of a spear: And they shall be utterly burned with fire in [their] place
7Celui qui les touche s'arme d'un fer ou du bois d'une lance, Et on les brûle au feu sur place.
7ואיש יגע בהם ימלא ברזל ועץ חנית ובאש שרוף ישרפו בשבת׃
8These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite, against eight hundred slain at one time.
8Voici les noms des vaillants hommes qui étaient au service de David. Joscheb-Basschébeth, le Tachkemonite, l'un des principaux officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur huit cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois.
8אלה שמות הגברים אשר לדוד ישב בשבת תחכמני ראש השלשי הוא עדינו העצנו על שמנה מאות חלל בפעם אחד׃
9And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodai the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away.
9Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, fils d'Achochi. Il était l'un des trois guerriers qui affrontèrent avec David les Philistins rassemblés pour combattre, tandis que les hommes d'Israël se retiraient sur les hauteurs.
9ואחרו אלעזר בן דדי בן אחחי בשלשה גברים עם דוד בחרפם בפלשתים נאספו שם למלחמה ויעלו איש ישראל׃
10He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword; and Jehovah wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to take spoil.
10Il se leva, et frappa les Philistins jusqu'à ce que sa main fût lasse et qu'elle restât attachée à son épée. L'Eternel opéra une grande délivrance ce jour-là. Le peuple revint après Eléazar, seulement pour prendre les dépouilles.
10הוא קם ויך בפלשתים עד כי יגעה ידו ותדבק ידו אל החרב ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה ביום ההוא והעם ישבו אחריו אך לפשט׃
11And after him was Shammah the son of Agee a Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines.
11Après lui, Schamma, fils d'Agué, d'Harar. Les Philistins s'étaient rassemblés à Léchi. Il y avait là une pièce de terre remplie de lentilles; et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.
11ואחריו שמא בן אגא הררי ויאספו פלשתים לחיה ותהי שם חלקת השדה מלאה עדשים והעם נס מפני פלשתים׃
12But he stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah wrought a great victory.
12Schamma se plaça au milieu du champ, le protégea, et battit les Philistins. Et l'Eternel opéra une grande délivrance.
12ויתיצב בתוך החלקה ויצילה ויך את פלשתים ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה׃
13And three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
13Trois des trente chefs descendirent au temps de la moisson et vinrent auprès de David, dans la caverne d'Adullam, lorsqu'une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
13וירדו שלשים מהשלשים ראש ויבאו אל קציר אל דוד אל מערת עדלם וחית פלשתים חנה בעמק רפאים׃
14And David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.
14David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléhem.
14ודוד אז במצודה ומצב פלשתים אז בית לחם׃
15And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!
15David eut un désir, et il dit: Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem?
15ויתאוה דוד ויאמר מי ישקני מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער׃
16And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah.
16Alors les trois vaillants hommes passèrent au travers du camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléhem. Ils l'apportèrent et la présentèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas la boire, et il la répandit devant l'Eternel.
16ויבקעו שלשת הגברים במחנה פלשתים וישאבו מים מבאר בית לחם אשר בשער וישאו ויבאו אל דוד ולא אבה לשתותם ויסך אתם ליהוה׃
17And he said, Be it far from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: [shall I drink] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
17Il dit: Loin de moi, ô Eternel, la pensée de faire cela! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie? Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois vaillants hommes.
17ויאמר חלילה לי יהוה מעשתי זאת הדם האנשים ההלכים בנפשותם ולא אבה לשתותם אלה עשו שלשת הגברים׃
18And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.
18Abischaï, frère de Joab, fils de Tseruja, était le chef des trois. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, et les tua; et il eut du renom parmi les trois.
18ואבישי אחי יואב בן צרויה הוא ראש השלשי והוא עורר את חניתו על שלש מאות חלל ולו שם בשלשה׃
19Was he not most honorable of the three? therefore he was made their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the [first] three.
19Il était le plus considéré des trois, et il fut leur chef; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers.
19מן השלשה הכי נכבד ויהי להם לשר ועד השלשה לא בא׃
20And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two [sons of] Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.
20Benaja, fils de Jehojada, fils d'un homme de Kabtseel, rempli de valeur et célèbre par ses exploits. Il frappa les deux lions de Moab. Il descendit au milieu d'une citerne, où il frappa un lion, un jour de neige.
20ובניהו בן יהוידע בן איש חי רב פעלים מקבצאל הוא הכה את שני אראל מואב והוא ירד והכה את האריה בתוך הבאר ביום השלג׃
21And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
21Il frappa un Egyptien d'un aspect formidable et ayant une lance à la main; il descendit contre lui avec un bâton, arracha la lance de la main de l'Egyptien, et s'en servit pour le tuer.
21והוא הכה את איש מצרי אשר מראה וביד המצרי חנית וירד אליו בשבט ויגזל את החנית מיד המצרי ויהרגהו בחניתו׃
22These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.
22Voilà ce que fit Benaja, fils de Jehojada; et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants hommes.
22אלה עשה בניהו בן יהוידע ולו שם בשלשה הגברים׃
23He was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the [first] three. And David set him over his guard.
23Il était le plus considéré des trente; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers. David l'admit dans son conseil secret.
23מן השלשים נכבד ואל השלשה לא בא וישמהו דוד אל משמעתו׃
24Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem,
24Asaël, frère de Joab, du nombre des trente. Elchanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléhem.
24עשה אל אחי יואב בשלשים אלחנן בן דדו בית לחם׃
25Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,
25Schamma, de Harod. Elika, de Harod.
25שמה החרדי אליקא החרדי׃
26Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27Abiezer the Anathothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,
