¹And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest from all his enemies round about,

¹Lorsque le roi habita dans sa maison, et que l'Eternel lui eut donné du repos, après l'avoir délivré de tous les ennemis qui l'entouraient,

¹ויהי כי ישב המלך בביתו ויהוה הניח לו מסביב מכל איביו׃

²that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

²il dit à Nathan le prophète: Vois donc! j'habite dans une maison de cèdre, et l'arche de Dieu habite au milieu d'une tente.

²ויאמר המלך אל נתן הנביא ראה נא אנכי יושב בבית ארזים וארון האלהים ישב בתוך היריעה׃

³And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee.

³Nathan répondit au roi: Va, fais tout ce que tu as dans le coeur, car l'Eternel est avec toi.

³ויאמר נתן אל המלך כל אשר בלבבך לך עשה כי יהוה עמך׃

⁴And it came to pass the same night, that the word of Jehovah came unto Nathan, saying,

⁴La nuit suivante, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Nathan:

⁴ויהי בלילה ההוא ויהי דבר יהוה אל נתן לאמר׃

⁵Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?

⁵Va dire à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Est-ce toi qui me bâtirais une maison pour que j'en fasse ma demeure?

⁵לך ואמרת אל עבדי אל דוד כה אמר יהוה האתה תבנה לי בית לשבתי׃

⁶for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

⁶Mais je n'ai point habité dans une maison depuis le jour où j'ai fait monter les enfants d'Israël hors d'Egypte jusqu'à ce jour; j'ai voyagé sous une tente et dans un tabernacle.

⁶כי לא ישבתי בבית למיום העלתי את בני ישראל ממצרים ועד היום הזה ואהיה מתהלך באהל ובמשכן׃

⁷In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?

⁷Partout où j'ai marché avec tous les enfants d'Israël, ai-je dit un mot à quelqu'une des tribus d'Israël à qui j'avais ordonné de paître mon peuple d'Israël, ai-je dit: Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas une maison de cèdre?

⁷בכל אשר התהלכתי בכל בני ישראל הדבר דברתי את אחד שבטי ישראל אשר צויתי לרעות את עמי את ישראל לאמר למה לא בניתם לי בית ארזים׃

⁸Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel;

⁸Maintenant tu diras à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Je t'ai pris au pâturage, derrière les brebis, pour que tu fusses chef sur mon peuple, sur Israël;

⁸ועתה כה תאמר לעבדי לדוד כה אמר יהוה צבאות אני לקחתיך מן הנוה מאחר הצאן להיות נגיד על עמי על ישראל׃

⁹and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

⁹j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, j'ai exterminé tous tes ennemis devant toi, et j'ai rendu ton nom grand comme le nom des grands qui sont sur la terre;

⁹ואהיה עמך בכל אשר הלכת ואכרתה את כל איביך מפניך ועשתי לך שם גדול כשם הגדלים אשר בארץ׃

¹⁰And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first,

¹⁰j'ai donné une demeure à mon peuple, à Israël, et je l'ai planté pour qu'il y soit fixé et ne soit plus agité, pour que les méchants ne l'oppriment plus comme auparavant

¹⁰ושמתי מקום לעמי לישראל ונטעתיו ושכן תחתיו ולא ירגז עוד ולא יסיפו בני עולה לענותו כאשר בראשונה׃

¹¹and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house.

¹¹et comme à l'époque où j'avais établi des juges sur mon peuple d'Israël. Je t'ai accordé du repos en te délivrant de tous tes ennemis. Et l'Eternel t'annonce qu'il te créera une maison.

¹¹ולמן היום אשר צויתי שפטים על עמי ישראל והניחתי לך מכל איביך והגיד לך יהוה כי בית יעשה לך יהוה׃

¹²When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹²Quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu seras couché avec tes pères, j'élèverai ta postérité après toi, celui qui sera sorti de tes entrailles, et j'affermirai son règne.

¹²כי ימלאו ימיך ושכבת את אבתיך והקימתי את זרעך אחריך אשר יצא ממעיך והכינתי את ממלכתו׃

¹³He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

¹³Ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom, et j'affermirai pour toujours le trône de son royaume.

¹³הוא יבנה בית לשמי וכננתי את כסא ממלכתו עד עולם׃

¹⁴I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

¹⁴Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils. S'il fait le mal, je le châtierai avec la verge des hommes et avec les coups des enfants des hommes;

¹⁴אני אהיה לו לאב והוא יהיה לי לבן אשר בהעותו והכחתיו בשבט אנשים ובנגעי בני אדם׃

¹⁵but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

¹⁵mais ma grâce ne se retirera point de lui, comme je l'ai retirée de Saül, que j'ai rejeté devant toi.

¹⁵וחסדי לא יסור ממנו כאשר הסרתי מעם שאול אשר הסרתי מלפניך׃

¹⁶And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

¹⁶Ta maison et ton règne seront pour toujours assurés, ton trône sera pour toujours affermi.

¹⁶ונאמן ביתך וממלכתך עד עולם לפניך כסאך יהיה נכון עד עולם׃

¹⁷According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

¹⁷Nathan rapporta à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette vision.

¹⁷ככל הדברים האלה וככל החזיון הזה כן דבר נתן אל דוד׃

¹⁸Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

¹⁸Et le roi David alla se présenter devant l'Eternel, et dit: Qui suis-je, Seigneur Eternel, et quelle est ma maison, pour que tu m'aies fait parvenir où je suis?

¹⁸ויבא המלך דוד וישב לפני יהוה ויאמר מי אנכי אדני יהוה ומי ביתי כי הביאתני עד הלם׃

¹⁹And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this [too] after the manner of men, O Lord Jehovah!

¹⁹C'est encore peu de chose à tes yeux, Seigneur Eternel; tu parles aussi de la maison de ton serviteur pour les temps à venir. Et tu daignes instruire un homme de ces choses, Seigneur Eternel!

¹⁹ותקטן עוד זאת בעיניך אדני יהוה ותדבר גם אל בית עבדך למרחוק וזאת תורת האדם אדני יהוה׃

²⁰And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord Jehovah.

²⁰Que pourrait te dire de plus David? Tu connais ton serviteur, Seigneur Eternel!

²⁰ומה יוסיף דוד עוד לדבר אליך ואתה ידעת את עבדך אדני יהוה׃

²¹For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it.

²¹A cause de ta parole, et selon ton coeur, tu as fait toutes ces grandes choses pour les révéler à ton serviteur.

²¹בעבור דברך וכלבך עשית את כל הגדולה הזאת להודיע את עבדך׃

²²Wherefore thou art great, O Jehovah God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

²²Que tu es donc grand, Eternel Dieu! car nul n'est semblable à toi, et il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que toi, d'après tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.

²²על כן גדלת אדני יהוה כי אין כמוך ואין אלהים זולתך בכל אשר שמענו באזנינו׃

²³And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, whom thou redeemest to thee out of Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods?

²³Est-il sur la terre une seule nation qui soit comme ton peuple, comme Israël, que Dieu est venu racheter pour en former son peuple, pour se faire un nom et pour accomplir en sa faveur, en faveur de ton pays, des miracles et des prodiges, en chassant devant ton peuple, que tu as racheté d'Egypte, des nations et leurs dieux?

²³ומי כעמך כישראל גוי אחד בארץ אשר הלכו אלהים לפדות לו לעם ולשום לו שם ולעשות לכם הגדולה ונראות לארצך מפני עמך אשר פדית לך ממצרים גוים ואלהיו׃

²⁴And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.

²⁴Tu as affermi ton peuple d'Israël, pour qu'il fût ton peuple à toujours; et toi, Eternel, tu es devenu son Dieu.

²⁴ותכונן לך את עמך ישראל לך לעם עד עולם ואתה יהוה היית להם לאלהים׃

²⁵And now, O Jehovah God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

²⁵Maintenant, Eternel Dieu, fais subsister jusque dans l'éternité la parole que tu as prononcée sur ton serviteur et sur sa maison, et agis selon ta parole.

²⁵ועתה יהוה אלהים הדבר אשר דברת על עבדך ועל ביתו הקם עד עולם ועשה כאשר דברת׃

²⁶And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee.

²⁶Que ton nom soit à jamais glorifié, et que l'on dise: L'Eternel des armées est le Dieu d'Israël! Et que la maison de ton serviteur David soit affermie devant toi!

²⁶ויגדל שמך עד עולם לאמר יהוה צבאות אלהים על ישראל ובית עבדך דוד יהיה נכון לפניך׃

²⁷For thou, O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

²⁷Car toi-même, Eternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël, tu t'es révélé à ton serviteur, en disant: Je te fonderai une maison! C'est pourquoi ton serviteur a pris courage pour t'adresser cette prière.

²⁷כי אתה יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל גליתה את אזן עבדך לאמר בית אבנה לך על כן מצא עבדך את לבו להתפלל אליך את התפלה הזאת׃

²⁸And now, O Lord Jehovah, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

²⁸Maintenant, Seigneur Eternel, tu es Dieu, et tes paroles sont vérité, et tu as annoncé cette grâce à ton serviteur.

²⁸ועתה אדני יהוה אתה הוא האלהים ודבריך יהיו אמת ותדבר אל עבדך את הטובה הזאת׃

²⁹now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord Jehovah, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

²⁹Veuille donc bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu'elle subsiste à toujours devant toi! Car c'est toi, Seigneur Eternel, qui as parlé, et par ta bénédiction la maison de ton serviteur sera bénie éternellement.

²⁹ועתה הואל וברך את בית עבדך להיות לעולם לפניך כי אתה אדני יהוה דברת ומברכתך יברך בית עבדך לעולם׃
