¹And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹ויהי אחרי כן ויך דוד את פלשתים ויכניעם ויקח דוד את מתג האמה מיד פלשתים׃

²And he smote Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

²Il battit les Moabites, et il les mesura avec un cordeau, en les faisant coucher par terre; il en mesura deux cordeaux pour les livrer à la mort, et un plein cordeau pour leur laisser la vie. Et les Moabites furent assujettis à David, et lui payèrent un tribut.

²ויך את מואב וימדדם בחבל השכב אותם ארצה וימדד שני חבלים להמית ומלא החבל להחיות ותהי מואב לדוד לעבדים נשאי מנחה׃

³David smote also Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at the River.

³David battit Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba, lorsqu'il alla rétablir sa domination sur le fleuve de l'Euphrate.

³ויך דוד את הדדעזר בן רחב מלך צובה בלכתו להשיב ידו בנהר׃

⁴And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.

⁴David lui prit mille sept cents cavaliers et vingt mille hommes de pied; il coupa les jarrets à tous les chevaux de trait, et ne conserva que cent attelages.

⁴וילכד דוד ממנו אלף ושבע מאות פרשים ועשרים אלף איש רגלי ויעקר דוד את כל הרכב ויותר ממנו מאה רכב׃

⁵And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succor Hadadezer king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

⁵Les Syriens de Damas vinrent au secours d'Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba, et David battit vingt-deux mille Syriens.

⁵ותבא ארם דמשק לעזר להדדעזר מלך צובה ויך דוד בארם עשרים ושנים אלף איש׃

⁶Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

⁶David mit des garnisons dans la Syrie de Damas. Et les Syriens furent assujettis à David, et lui payèrent un tribut. L'Eternel protégeait David partout où il allait.

⁶וישם דוד נצבים בארם דמשק ותהי ארם לדוד לעבדים נושאי מנחה וישע יהוה את דוד בכל אשר הלך׃

⁷And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

⁷Et David prit les boucliers d'or qu'avaient les serviteurs d'Hadadézer, et les apporta à Jérusalem.

⁷ויקח דוד את שלטי הזהב אשר היו אל עבדי הדדעזר ויביאם ירושלם׃

⁸And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

⁸Le roi David prit encore une grande quantité d'airain à Béthach et à Bérothaï, villes d'Hadadézer.

⁸ומבטח ומברתי ערי הדדעזר לקח המלך דוד נחשת הרבה מאד׃

⁹And when Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

⁹Thoï, roi de Hamath, apprit que David avait battu toute l'armée d'Hadadézer,

⁹וישמע תעי מלך חמת כי הכה דוד את כל חיל הדדעזר׃

¹⁰then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And [Joram] brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

¹⁰et il envoya Joram, son fils, vers le roi David, pour le saluer, et pour le féliciter d'avoir attaqué Hadadézer et de l'avoir battu. Car Thoï était en guerre avec Hadadézer. Joram apporta des vases d'argent, des vases d'or, et des vases d'airain.

¹⁰וישלח תעי את יורם בנו אל המלך דוד לשאל לו לשלום ולברכו על אשר נלחם בהדדעזר ויכהו כי איש מלחמות תעי היה הדדעזר ובידו היו כלי כסף וכלי זהב וכלי נחשת׃

¹¹These also did king David dedicate unto Jehovah, with the silver and gold that he dedicated of all the nations which he subdued;

¹¹גם אתם הקדיש המלך דוד ליהוה עם הכסף והזהב אשר הקדיש מכל הגוים אשר כבש׃

¹²of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

¹²sur la Syrie, sur Moab, sur les fils d'Ammon, sur les Philistins, sur Amalek, et sur le butin d'Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba.

¹²מארם וממואב ומבני עמון ומפלשתים ומעמלק ומשלל הדדעזר בן רחב מלך צובה׃

¹³And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting the Syrians in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men.

¹³Au retour de sa victoire sur les Syriens, David se fit encore un nom, en battant dans la vallée du sel dix-huit mille Edomites.

¹³ויעש דוד שם בשבו מהכותו את ארם בגיא מלח שמונה עשר אלף׃

¹⁴And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

¹⁴Il mit des garnisons dans Edom, il mit des garnisons dans tout Edom. Et tout Edom fut assujetti à David. L'Eternel protégeait David partout où il allait.

¹⁴וישם באדום נצבים בכל אדום שם נצבים ויהי כל אדום עבדים לדוד ויושע יהוה את דוד בכל אשר הלך׃

¹⁵And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness unto all his people.

¹⁵David régna sur Israël, et il faisait droit et justice à tout son peuple.

¹⁵וימלך דוד על כל ישראל ויהי דוד עשה משפט וצדקה לכל עמו׃

¹⁶And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

¹⁶Joab, fils de Tseruja, commandait l'armée; Josaphat, fils d'Achilud, était archiviste;

¹⁶ויואב בן צרויה על הצבא ויהושפט בן אחילוד מזכיר׃

¹⁷and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Seraiah was scribe;

¹⁷Tsadok, fils d'Achithub, et Achimélec, fils d'Abiathar, étaient sacrificateurs; Seraja était secrétaire;

¹⁷וצדוק בן אחיטוב ואחימלך בן אביתר כהנים ושריה סופר׃

¹⁸and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was over] the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief ministers.

¹⁸Benaja, fils de Jehojada, était chef des Kéréthiens et des Péléthiens; et les fils de David étaient ministres d'état.

¹⁸ובניהו בן יהוידע והכרתי והפלתי ובני דוד כהנים היו׃
