¹And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed.

¹A Icone, Paul et Barnabas entrèrent ensemble dans la synagogue des Juifs, et ils parlèrent de telle manière qu'une grande multitude de Juifs et de Grecs crurent.

¹ויהי באיקניון ויבאו יחדו אל בית כנסת היהודים וידברו שם עד כי האמין המון רב מן היהודים ומן היונים׃

²But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren.

²Mais ceux des Juifs qui ne crurent point excitèrent et aigrirent les esprits des païens contre les frères.

²אך היהודים אשר לא האמינו עוררו והכעיסו את נפשות הגוים על האחים׃

³Long time therefore they tarried [there] speaking boldly in the Lord, who bare witness unto the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

³Ils restèrent cependant assez longtemps à Icone, parlant avec assurance, appuyés sur le Seigneur, qui rendait témoignage à la parole de sa grâce et permettait qu'il se fît par leurs mains des prodiges et des miracles.

³וישבו שם ימים רבים וילמדו בבטחונם ביהוה העמיד על דבר חסדו בעשותו על ידם אתות ומופתים׃

⁴But the multitude of the city was divided; and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

⁴La population de la ville se divisa: les uns étaient pour les Juifs, les autres pour les apôtres.

⁴ויחלק המון העיר לחצי אלה נטו אחרי היהודים ואלה אחרי השליחים׃

⁵And when there was made an onset both of the Gentiles and of the Jews with their rulers, to treat them shamefully and to stone them,

⁵Et comme les païens et les Juifs, de concert avec leurs chefs, se mettaient en mouvement pour les outrager et les lapider,

⁵ויהי רגשת הגוים והיהודים עם ראשיהם להתעלל בהם ולסקלם׃

⁶they became aware of it, and fled unto the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the region round about:

⁶Paul et Barnabas, en ayant eu connaissance, se réfugièrent dans les villes de la Lycaonie, à Lystre et à Derbe, et dans la contrée d'alentour.

⁶ויודע להם ויברחו לערי לוקוניא אל לוסטרא ודרבי וסביבותן׃

⁷and there they preached the gospel.

⁷Et ils y annoncèrent la bonne nouvelle.

⁷ויבשרו שם הבשורה׃

⁸And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked.

⁸A Lystre, se tenait assis un homme impotent des pieds, boiteux de naissance, et qui n'avait jamais marché.

⁸ואיש נכה רגלים היה בלוסטרא והוא ישב פסח מבטן אמו ולא הלך מימיו׃

⁹The same heard Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes upon him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole,

⁹Il écoutait parler Paul. Et Paul, fixant les regards sur lui et voyant qu'il avait la foi pour être guéri,

⁹וישמע את פולוס מדבר והוא הסתכל בו וירא כי אמונה בו להושע׃

¹⁰said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked.

¹⁰dit d'une voix forte: Lève-toi droit sur tes pieds. Et il se leva d'un bond et marcha.

¹⁰ויאמר בקול גדול עמד הכן על רגליך וידלג ויתהלך׃

¹¹And when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

¹¹A la vue de ce que Paul avait fait, la foule éleva la voix, et dit en langue lycaonienne: Les dieux sous une forme humaine sont descendus vers nous.

¹¹והמון העם כראותם את אשר עשה פולוס נשאו את קולם ויאמרו בלשון לוקונית ירדו אלינו האלהים בדמות אנשים׃

¹²And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.

¹²Ils appelaient Barnabas Jupiter, et Paul Mercure, parce que c'était lui qui portait la parole.

¹²ויקראו לבר נבא בל ולפולוס קראו הרמיס באשר הוא ראש המדברים׃

¹³And the priest of Jupiter whose [temple] was before the city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the multitudes.

¹³Le prêtre de Jupiter, dont le temple était à l'entrée de la ville, amena des taureaux avec des bandelettes vers les portes, et voulait, de même que la foule, offrir un sacrifice.

¹³וכהן בית בל אשר מחוץ לעירם הביא השערה שורים ועטרות ויחפץ לזבח הוא והמון העם׃

¹⁴But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they rent their garments, and sprang forth among the multitude, crying out

¹⁴Les apôtres Barnabas et Paul, ayant appris cela, déchirèrent leurs vêtements, et se précipitèrent au milieu de la foule,

¹⁴ויהי כשמע זאת השליחים פולוס ובר נבא ויקרעו את בגדיהם וירוצו אל תוך העם׃

¹⁵and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is:

¹⁵en s'écriant: O hommes, pourquoi agissez-vous de la sorte? Nous aussi, nous sommes des hommes de la même nature que vous; et, vous apportant une bonne nouvelle, nous vous exhortons à renoncer à ces choses vaines, pour vous tourner vers le Dieu vivant, qui a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer, et tout ce qui s'y trouve.

¹⁵ויצעקו לאמר אנשים למה תעשו כזאת גם אנחנו בני אדם חלשים כמוכם ונבשרה אתכם למען שוב תשובו מן הבליכם אלה אל אלהים חיים אשר עשה את השמים ואת הארץ ואת הים ואת כל אשר בם׃

¹⁶who in the generations gone by suffered all the nations to walk in their own ways.

¹⁶Ce Dieu, dans les âges passés, a laissé toutes les nations suivre leurs propres voies,

¹⁶ואשר בדרות קדם הניח לכל הגוים ללכת בדרכיהם׃

¹⁷And yet He left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

¹⁷quoiqu'il n'ait cessé de rendre témoignage de ce qu'il est, en faisant du bien, en vous dispensant du ciel les pluies et les saisons fertiles, en vous donnant la nourriture avec abondance et en remplissant vos coeurs de joie.

¹⁷וגם לא חדל להעיד על עצמו וייטב לנו בתתו מטר מן השמים ועתות שבע וימלא לבותינו מזון וששון׃

¹⁸And with these sayings scarce restrained they the multitudes from doing sacrifice unto them.

¹⁸A peine purent-ils, par ces paroles, empêcher la foule de leur offrir un sacrifice.

¹⁸ואף בדברים האלה כמעט לא עצרו כח לכלוא את העם מזבח להם׃

¹⁹But there came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

¹⁹Alors survinrent d'Antioche et d'Icone des Juifs qui gagnèrent la foule, et qui, après avoir lapidé Paul, le traînèrent hors de la ville, pensant qu'il était mort.

¹⁹ויבאו שמה יהודים מן אנטיוכיא ומן איקניון ויסיתו את העם וירגמו את פולוס באבנים ויסחבהו חוצה לעיר בחשבם כי מת׃

²⁰But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and entered into the city: and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe.

²⁰Mais, les disciples l'ayant entouré, il se leva, et entra dans la ville. Le lendemain, il partit pour Derbe avec Barnabas.

²⁰ויסבו אתו התלמידים ויקם ויבא העירה וממחרת יצא אל דרבי הוא ובר נבא׃

²¹And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,

²¹Quand ils eurent évangélisé cette ville et fait un certain nombre de disciples, ils retournèrent à Lystre, à Icone et à Antioche,

²¹ויבשרו את הבשורה בעיר ההיא ואחרי העמידם תלמידים הרבה שבו אל לוסטרא ואיקניון ואנטיוכיא׃

²²confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

²²fortifiant l'esprit des disciples, les exhortant à persévérer dans la foi, et disant que c'est par beaucoup de tribulations qu'il nous faut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.

²²ויחזקו את נפשות התלמידים ויזהירו אתם לעמד באמונה וכי רק בצרות רבות בוא נבוא אל מלכות האלהים׃

²³And when they had appointed for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

²³Ils firent nommer des anciens dans chaque Eglise, et, après avoir prié et jeûné, ils les recommandèrent au Seigneur, en qui ils avaient cru.

²³ויבחרו להם זקנים בכל קהלה וקהלה ויתפללו ויצומו ויפקידום ביד האדון אשר האמינו בו׃

²⁴And they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia.

²⁴Traversant ensuite la Pisidie, ils vinrent en Pamphylie,

²⁴ויעברו בפיסדיא ויבאו אל פמפוליא׃

²⁵And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;

²⁵annoncèrent la parole à Perge, et descendirent à Attalie.

²⁵וישמיעו את דבר יהוה בפרגי וירדו אל אטליא׃

²⁶and thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

²⁶De là ils s'embarquèrent pour Antioche, d'où ils avaient été recommandés à la grâce de Dieu pour l'oeuvre qu'ils venaient d'accomplir.

²⁶ומשם באו באניה אל אנטיוכיא אשר נמסרו שם לחסד אלהים על המלאכה אשר מלאו אתה׃

²⁷And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith unto the Gentiles.

²⁷Après leur arrivée, ils convoquèrent l'Eglise, et ils racontèrent tout ce que Dieu avait fait avec eux, et comment il avait ouvert aux nations la porte de la foi.

²⁷ובבאם שמה הקהילו את העדה ויגידו את כל אשר עשה אתם האלהים ואת אשר פתח לגוים פתח האמונה׃

²⁸And they tarried no little time with the disciples.

²⁸Et ils demeurèrent assez longtemps avec les disciples.

²⁸וישבו שם עם התלמידים ימים לא מעטים׃
