¹And certain men came down from Judaea and taught the brethren, [saying], Except ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

¹Quelques hommes, venus de la Judée, enseignaient les frères, en disant: Si vous n'êtes circoncis selon le rite de Moïse, vous ne pouvez être sauvés.

¹ואנשים ירדו מיהודה וילמדו את האחים לאמר אם לא תמולו כדת משה לא תושעון׃

²And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioning with them, [the brethren] appointed that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

²Paul et Barnabas eurent avec eux un débat et une vive discussion; et les frères décidèrent que Paul et Barnabas, et quelques-uns des leurs, monteraient à Jérusalem vers les apôtres et les anciens, pour traiter cette question.

²ויהי על זאת ריב ומחלקת לא קלה לפולוס ולבר נבא עמהם ויגזרו כי פולוס ובר נבא ואחרים מהם יעלו ירושלים אל השליחים והזקנים על אדות השאלה הזאת׃

³They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

³Après avoir été accompagnés par l'Eglise, ils poursuivirent leur route à travers la Phénicie et la Samarie, racontant la conversion des païens, et ils causèrent une grande joie à tous les frères.

³ותלוה אתם הקהלה ויעברו את פינוקיא ואת שמרון מספרים את תשובת הגוים וישמחו את כל האחים שמחה גדולה׃

⁴And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

⁴Arrivés à Jérusalem, ils furent reçus par l'Eglise, les apôtres et les anciens, et ils racontèrent tout ce que Dieu avait fait avec eux.

⁴ויהי כבאם ירושלים ויקבלו אתם הקהלה והשליחים והזקנים ויגידו להם את אשר הגדיל האלהים לעשות עמהם׃

⁵But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

⁵Alors quelques-uns du parti des pharisiens, qui avaient cru, se levèrent, en disant qu'il fallait circoncire les païens et exiger l'observation de la loi de Moïse.

⁵ויקומו אנשים מאמינים מכת הפרושים ויאמרו כי חובה היא למול אתם ולצותם לשמר את תורת משה׃

⁶And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter.

⁶Les apôtres et les anciens se réunirent pour examiner cette affaire.

⁶ויקהלו השליחים והזקנים לעין בדבר הזה׃

⁷And when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

⁷Une grande discussion s'étant engagée, Pierre se leva, et leur dit: Hommes frères, vous savez que dès longtemps Dieu a fait un choix parmi vous, afin que, par ma bouche, les païens entendissent la parole de l'Evangile et qu'ils crussent.

⁷ויהי ברבות המחלקת קם פטרוס ויאמר אליהם אנשים אחים אתם ידעתם כי מימים ראשים בי בחר האלהים מכלנו אשר ישמעו הגוים מפי את דבר הבשורה ויאמינו׃

⁸And God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

⁸Et Dieu, qui connaît les coeurs, leur a rendu témoignage, en leur donnant le Saint-Esprit comme à nous;

⁸והאלהים ידע הלבבות העיד עליהם בתתו גם להם את רוח הקדש כאשר נתן לנו׃

⁹and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

⁹il n'a fait aucune différence entre nous et eux, ayant purifié leurs coeurs par la foi.

⁹ולא הבדיל בינינו וביניהם כי טהר את לבבם על ידי האמונה׃

¹⁰Now therefore why make ye trial of God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

¹⁰Maintenant donc, pourquoi tentez-vous Dieu, en mettant sur le cou des disciples un joug que ni nos pères ni nous n'avons pu porter?

¹⁰ועתה מה תנסו את האלהים לשום על על צוארי התלמידים אשר גם אבותינו גם אנחנו לא יכלנו לשאת׃

¹¹But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in like manner as they.

¹¹Mais c'est par la grâce du Seigneur Jésus que nous croyons être sauvés, de la même manière qu'eux.

¹¹אבל בחסד ישוע המשיח אדנינו נאמין להושע כמוהם כמונו׃

¹²And all the multitude kept silence; and they hearkened unto Barnabas and Paul rehearsing what signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.

¹²Toute l'assemblée garda le silence, et l'on écouta Barnabas et Paul, qui racontèrent tous les miracles et les prodiges que Dieu avait faits par eux au milieu des païens.

¹²ויחרישו כל הקהל וישמעו אל בר נבא ואל פולוס מספרים את האתות והמופתים אשר הרבה האלהים לעשות על ידיהם בקרב הגוים׃

¹³And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me:

¹³Lorsqu'ils eurent cessé de parler, Jacques prit la parole, et dit: Hommes frères, écoutez-moi!

¹³ויכלו לדבר ויען יעקב ויאמר אנשים אחים שמעו אלי׃

¹⁴Symeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

¹⁴Simon a raconté comment Dieu a d'abord jeté les regards sur les nations pour choisir du milieu d'elles un peuple qui portât son nom.

¹⁴שמעון ספר איך האלהים ראה לו בראשונה לקחת מבין הגוים עם לשמו׃

¹⁵And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

¹⁵Et avec cela s'accordent les paroles des prophètes, selon qu'il est écrit:

¹⁵ולזאת מסכימים דברי הנביאים ככתוב׃

¹⁶After these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

¹⁶Après cela, je reviendrai, et je relèverai de sa chute la tente de David, J'en réparerai les ruines, et je la redresserai,

¹⁶אחרי זאת אשוב ואקים את סכת דויד הנפלת והרסותיה אקים ובניתיה׃

¹⁷That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called,

¹⁷Afin que le reste des hommes cherche le Seigneur, Ainsi que toutes les nations sur lesquelles mon nom est invoqué, Dit le Seigneur, qui fait ces choses,

¹⁷למען ידרשו שארית אדם את יהוה וכל הגוים אשר נקרא שמי עליהם נאם יהוה עשה כל אלה׃

¹⁸Saith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

¹⁸Et à qui elles sont connues de toute éternité.

¹⁸נודעים לאלהים מעולם כל מעשיו׃

¹⁹Wherefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the Gentiles turn to God;

¹⁹C'est pourquoi je suis d'avis qu'on ne crée pas des difficultés à ceux des païens qui se convertissent à Dieu,

¹⁹ועל כן אני דן שלא להחמיר על השבים מן הגוים לאלהים׃

²⁰but that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

²⁰mais qu'on leur écrive de s'abstenir des souillures des idoles, de l'impudicité, des animaux étouffés et du sang.

²⁰רק לכתב אליהם אשר ירחקו מטמאת האלילים ומן הזנות ומבשר הנחנק ומן הדם׃

²¹For Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

²¹Car, depuis bien des générations, Moïse a dans chaque ville des gens qui le prêchent, puisqu'on le lit tous les jours de sabbat dans les synagogues.

²¹כי משה מדרת עולם יש לו מגידיו בכל עיר ועיר ויקרא בבתי הכנסיות מדי שבת בשבתו׃

²²Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; [namely], Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

²²Alors il parut bon aux apôtres et aux anciens, et à toute l'Eglise, de choisir parmi eux et d'envoyer à Antioche, avec Paul et Barnabas, Jude appelé Barsabas et Silas, hommes considérés entre les frères.

²²וייטב בעיני השליחים והזקנים עם כל הקהל לבחר מהם אנשים ולשלח אתם אל אנטיוכיא עם פולוס ובר נבא את יהודה המכנה בר שבא ואת סילא אנשי שם בין האחים׃

²³and they wrote [thus] by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting:

²³Ils les chargèrent d'une lettre ainsi conçue: Les apôtres, les anciens, et les frères, aux frères d'entre les païens, qui sont à Antioche, en Syrie, et en Cilicie, salut!

²³ויכתבו וישלחו על ידם לאמר אנחנו השליחים והזקנים והאחים שאלים לשלום האחים אשר מן הגוים באנטיוכיא ובסוריא ובקיליקיא׃

²⁴Forasmuch as we have heard that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;

²⁴Ayant appris que quelques hommes partis de chez nous, et auxquels nous n'avions donné aucun ordre, vous ont troublés par leurs discours et ont ébranlé vos âmes,

²⁴יען וביען שמענו כי יצאו מאתנו מבלבלים אתכם ומקלקלים נפשתיכם בדברים באמרם לכם להמול ולשמר את התורה אשר לא צוינו אותם׃

²⁵it seemed good unto us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

²⁵nous avons jugé à propos, après nous être réunis tous ensemble, de choisir des délégués et de vous les envoyer avec nos bien-aimés Barnabas et Paul,

²⁵לכן טוב בעיני כלנו יחדו לבחר אנשים לשלחם אליכם עם חביבינו בר נבא ופולוס׃

²⁶men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ces hommes qui ont exposé leur vie pour le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

²⁶אנשים אשר מסרו נפשם על שם אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

²⁷We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth.

²⁷Nous avons donc envoyé Jude et Silas, qui vous annonceront de leur bouche les mêmes choses.

²⁷על כן שלחנו את יהודה ואת סילא אשר גם המה יגידו זאת בפיהם׃

²⁸For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

²⁸Car il a paru bon au Saint-Esprit et à nous de ne vous imposer d'autre charge que ce qui est nécessaire,

²⁸כי טוב לפני רוח הקדש ולפנינו לבלתי שום עליכם משא אחר לבד מאלה הדברים הצריכים׃

²⁹that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

²⁹savoir, de vous abstenir des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles, du sang, des animaux étouffés, et de l'impudicité, choses contre lesquelles vous vous trouverez bien de vous tenir en garde. Adieu.

²⁹אשר תרחקו מזבחי אלילים ומן הדם ומבשר הנחנק ומן הזנות אם מאלה תשמרו את נפשתיכם תיטיבו לעשות ושלום לכם׃

³⁰So they, when they were dismissed, came down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.

³⁰Eux donc, ayant pris congé de l'Eglise, allèrent à Antioche, où ils remirent la lettre à la multitude assemblée.

³⁰וישלחו האנשים ויבאו אל אנטיוכיא ויקהילו את העם ויתנו להם את האגרת׃

³¹And when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.

³¹Après l'avoir lue, les frères furent réjouis de l'encouragement qu'elle leur apportait.

³¹ויקראו אתה וישמחו על הנחמה׃

³²And Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

³²Jude et Silas, qui étaient eux-mêmes prophètes, les exhortèrent et les fortifièrent par plusieurs discours.

³²ויהודה וסילא אשר גם הם נביאים נחמו האחים בדברים רבים ויחזקום׃

³³And after they had spent some time [there], they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto those that had sent them forth.

³³Au bout de quelque temps, les frères les laissèrent en paix retourner vers ceux qui les avaient envoyés.

³³ויהיו שם ימים אחדים וישלחום האחים בשלום אל השליחים׃

³⁴[But it seemed good unto Silas to abide there.]

³⁴Toutefois Silas trouva bon de rester.

³⁴וייטב בעיני סילא לשבת שם׃

³⁵But Paul and Barnabas tarried in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

³⁵Paul et Barnabas demeurèrent à Antioche, enseignant et annonçant, avec plusieurs autres, la bonne nouvelle de la parole du Seigneur.

³⁵ופולוס ובר נבא ישבו באנטיוכיא וילמדו ויבשרו את דבר יהוה המה וגם רבים אחרים עמם׃

³⁶And after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, [and see] how they fare.

³⁶Quelques jours s'écoulèrent, après lesquels Paul dit à Barnabas: Retournons visiter les frères dans toutes les villes où nous avons annoncé la parole du Seigneur, pour voir en quel état ils sont.

³⁶ויהי מקץ ימים ויאמר פולוס אל בר נבא לכה ונשובה ונפקדה את אחינו בכל עיר ועיר אשר קראנו שם את דבר יהוה ונראה מה המה׃

³⁷And Barnabas was minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark.

³⁷Barnabas voulait emmener aussi Jean, surnommé Marc;

³⁷ובר נבא יעץ לקחת אתם את יוחנן המכנה מרקוס׃

³⁸But Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

³⁸mais Paul jugea plus convenable de ne pas prendre avec eux celui qui les avait quittés depuis la Pamphylie, et qui ne les avait point accompagnés dans leur oeuvre.

³⁸אך פולוס לא אבה לקחת אתם את האיש אשר סר מעליהם בפמפוליא ולא הלך אתם במלאכתם׃

³⁹And there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus;

³⁹Ce dissentiment fut assez vif pour être cause qu'ils se séparèrent l'un de l'autre. Et Barnabas, prenant Marc avec lui, s'embarqua pour l'île de Chypre.

³⁹ויהי רגז עד אשר נפרדו איש מאחיו ויקח בר נבא את מרקוס ויסע באניה אל קפרוס׃

⁴⁰but Paul choose Silas, and went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.

⁴⁰Paul fit choix de Silas, et partit, recommandé par les frères à la grâce du Seigneur.

⁴⁰ופולוס בחר לו את סילא וימסרהו האחים אל חסד יהוה ויצא׃

⁴¹And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

⁴¹Il parcourut la Syrie et la Cilicie, fortifiant les Eglises.

⁴¹ויעבר בסוריא ובקיליקיא ויחזק את הקהלות׃
