¹And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess that believed; but his father was a Greek.

¹Il se rendit ensuite à Derbe et à Lystre. Et voici, il y avait là un disciple nommé Timothée, fils d'une femme juive fidèle et d'un père grec.

¹ויבא אל דרבי ואל לוסטרא והנה שם תלמיד אחד ושמו טימותיוס והוא בן אשה יהודית מאמנת ואביו יוני׃

²The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

²Les frères de Lystre et d'Icone rendaient de lui un bon témoignage.

²ויהי לו שם טוב בין האחים אשר בלוסטרא ובאיקניון׃

³Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts: for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

³Paul voulut l'emmener avec lui; et, l'ayant pris, il le circoncit, à cause des Juifs qui étaient dans ces lieux-là, car tous savaient que son père était grec.

³בו בחר פולוס אשר יצא אתו ויקח וימל אתו בעבור היהודים אשר במקמות ההם כי כלם ידעו את אביו כי יוני הוא׃

⁴And as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to keep which had been ordained of the apostles and elders that were at Jerusalem.

⁴En passant par les villes, ils recommandaient aux frères d'observer les décisions des apôtres et des anciens de Jérusalem.

⁴ויהי בעברם בערים וימסרו להם לשמר את הפקודים אשר גזרו השליחים והזקנים אשר בירושלים׃

⁵So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

⁵Les Eglises se fortifiaient dans la foi, et augmentaient en nombre de jour en jour.

⁵ותתחזקנה הקהלות באמונה וירב מספרן יום יום׃

⁶And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;

⁶Ayant été empêchés par le Saint-Esprit d'annoncer la parole dans l'Asie, ils traversèrent la Phrygie et le pays de Galatie.

⁶ויעברו בפרוגיא ובארץ גלטיא כי מנעם רוח הקדש מהשמיע את הדבר באסיא׃

⁷and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not;

⁷Arrivés près de la Mysie, ils se disposaient à entrer en Bithynie; mais l'Esprit de Jésus ne le leur permit pas.

⁷וכבאם אל מוסיא הואילו ללכת אל ביתוניא ולא הניח להם הרוח׃

⁸and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

⁸Ils franchirent alors la Mysie, et descendirent à Troas.

⁸ויחלפו ממוסיא וירדו אל טרואס׃

⁹And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

⁹Pendant la nuit, Paul eut une vision: un Macédonien lui apparut, et lui fit cette prière: Passe en Macédoine, secours-nous!

⁹וחזון נראה אל פולוס בלילה והנה איש מוקדון נצב והוא מבקש ממנו לאמר עבר אל מקדוניא ועזרנו׃

¹⁰And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

¹⁰Après cette vision de Paul, nous cherchâmes aussitôt à nous rendre en Macédoine, concluant que le Seigneur nous appelait à y annoncer la bonne nouvelle.

¹⁰וכראתו את המחזה מיד בקשנו ללכת אל מקדוניא בהביננו כי האלהים קראנו שמה לבשר אתם הבשורה׃

¹¹Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;

¹¹Etant partis de Troas, nous fîmes voile directement vers la Samothrace, et le lendemain nous débarquâmes à Néapolis.

¹¹ונצא מן טרואס ונרד באניה ונבא דרך ישרה אל סמותרקיא וממחרת אל נפוליס׃

¹²and from thence to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a [Roman] colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days.

¹²De là nous allâmes à Philippes, qui est la première ville d'un district de Macédoine, et une colonie. Nous passâmes quelques jours dans cette ville.

¹²ומשם אל פילפי ראשית ערי הפלך של מקדוניא והיא בת חורין ונשב בעיר הזאת ימים אחדים׃

¹³And on the sabbath day we went forth without the gate by a river side, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spake unto the women that were come together.

¹³Le jour du sabbat, nous nous rendîmes, hors de la porte, vers une rivière, où nous pensions que se trouvait un lieu de prière. Nous nous assîmes, et nous parlâmes aux femmes qui étaient réunies.

¹³וביום השבת יצאנו אל מחוץ לעיר אל יד הנהר אשר שם מקום תפלה כמנהגם ונשב ונדבר אל הנשים הנקהלות שמה׃

¹⁴And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened to give heed unto the things which were spoken by Paul.

¹⁴L'une d'elles, nommée Lydie, marchande de pourpre, de la ville de Thyatire, était une femme craignant Dieu, et elle écoutait. Le Seigneur lui ouvrit le coeur, pour qu'elle fût attentive à ce que disait Paul.

¹⁴ואשה יראת אליהם ושמה לודיא מכרת ארגמן מעיר תיאטירא שמעה ויפתח יהוה את לבה להקשיב אל דברי פולוס׃

¹⁵And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide [there]. And she constrained us.

¹⁵Lorsqu'elle eut été baptisée, avec sa famille, elle nous fit cette demande: Si vous me jugez fidèle au Seigneur, entrez dans ma maison, et demeurez-y. Et elle nous pressa par ses instances.

¹⁵ותטבל היא ובני ביתה ותבקש ממנו לאמר אם חשבתם אתי נאמנה לאדון באו נא אל ביתי ושבו בו ותפצר בנו׃

¹⁶And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

¹⁶Comme nous allions au lieu de prière, une servante qui avait un esprit de Python, et qui, en devinant, procurait un grand profit à ses maîtres, vint au-devant de nous,

¹⁶ויהי בלכתנו למקום התפלה ותפגע בנו שפחה בעלת אוב אשר עשתה הון רב לאדניה בקסמיה׃

¹⁷The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim unto you the way of salvation.

¹⁷et se mit à nous suivre, Paul et nous. Elle criait: Ces hommes sont les serviteurs du Dieu Très-Haut, et ils vous annoncent la voie du salut.

¹⁷ותלך אחרי פולוס ואחרינו הלוך וקרוא לאמר האנשים האלה עבדי אל עליון המה המודיעים אתנו ארח הישועה׃

¹⁸And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

¹⁸Elle fit cela pendant plusieurs jours. Paul fatigué se retourna, et dit à l'esprit: Je t'ordonne, au nom de Jésus-Christ, de sortir d'elle. Et il sortit à l'heure même.

¹⁸וכן עשתה ימים רבים וירע בעיני פולוס הדבר הזה ויפן ויאמר אל הרוח אנכי מצוך בשם ישוע המשיח לצאת ממנה ויצא בשעה ההיא׃

¹⁹But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

¹⁹Les maîtres de la servante, voyant disparaître l'espoir de leur gain, se saisirent de Paul et de Silas, et les traînèrent sur la place publique devant les magistrats.

¹⁹ויראו אדניה כי אזלה תוחלת בצעם ויתפשו את פולוס ואת סילא ויסחבום אל הרחוב לפני זקני העיר׃

²⁰and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

²⁰Ils les présentèrent aux préteurs, en disant: Ces hommes troublent notre ville; ce sont des Juifs,

²⁰ויביאום אל השרים ויאמרו האנשים האלה עכרים את עירנו והם יהודים׃

²¹and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.

²¹qui annoncent des coutumes qu'il ne nous est permis ni de recevoir ni de suivre, à nous qui sommes Romains.

²¹ומודיעים חקות אשר לא נכון לנו לקבלם ולעשתם כי רומיים אנחנו׃

²²And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.

²²La foule se souleva aussi contre eux, et les préteurs, ayant fait arracher leurs vêtements, ordonnèrent qu'on les battît de verges.

²²ויקם גם העם עליהם והשרים קרעו את בגדיהם מעליהם ויצוו להכותם בשוטים׃

²³And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

²³Après qu'on les eut chargés de coups, ils les jetèrent en prison, en recommandant au geôlier de les garder sûrement.

²³ויהי אחרי הכות אתם מכה רבה וישליכום במשמר ויצוו את שומר האסורים לשמרם היטב׃

²⁴who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

²⁴Le geôlier, ayant reçu cet ordre, les jeta dans la prison intérieure, et leur mit les ceps aux pieds.

²⁴והוא כאשר צוה כן השליכם בחדר המשמר הפנימי וישם את רגליהם בסד׃

²⁵But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;

²⁵Vers le milieu de la nuit, Paul et Silas priaient et chantaient les louanges de Dieu, et les prisonniers les entendaient.

²⁵ויהי כחצות הלילה ויתפללו פולוס וסילא ויזמרו לאלהים והאסורים מקשיבים אליהם׃

²⁶and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

²⁶Tout à coup il se fit un grand tremblement de terre, en sorte que les fondements de la prison furent ébranlés; au même instant, toutes les portes s'ouvrirent, et les liens de tous les prisonniers furent rompus.

²⁶ופתאם היה רעש גדול עד אשר זעו מוסדות בית הכלא וכרגע נפתחו כל הדלתות ומוסרות כלם נתקו׃

²⁷And the jailor, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

²⁷Le geôlier se réveilla, et, lorsqu'il vit les portes de la prison ouvertes, il tira son épée et allait se tuer, pensant que les prisonniers s'étaient enfuis.

²⁷ושומר האסורים נעור משנתו ויהי כראתו את דלתות המשמר נפתחות וישלף חרבו ויבקש לאבד את עצמו בחשבו כי ברחו האסורים׃

²⁸But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

²⁸Mais Paul cria d'une voix forte: Ne te fais point de mal, nous sommes tous ici.

²⁸ויקרא פולוס בקול גדול לאמר אל תעש לך מאומה רע כי פה אנחנו כלנו׃

²⁹And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas,

²⁹Alors le geôlier, ayant demandé de la lumière, entra précipitamment, et se jeta tout tremblant aux pieds de Paul et de Silas;

²⁹וישאל נרות וידלג פנימה והוא מרעיד ויפל לרגלי פולוס וסילא׃

³⁰and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

³⁰il les fit sortir, et dit: Seigneurs, que faut-il que je fasse pour être sauvé?

³⁰ויוציאם החוצה ויאמר אדני מה עלי לעשות למען אושע׃

³¹And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

³¹Paul et Silas répondirent: Crois au Seigneur Jésus, et tu seras sauvé, toi et ta famille.

³¹ויאמרו האמן באדון ישוע המשיח ותושע אתה וביתך׃

³²And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.

³²Et ils lui annoncèrent la parole du Seigneur, ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui étaient dans sa maison.

³²ויגידו לו את דבר יהוה ולכל אשר בביתו׃

³³And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.

³³Il les prit avec lui, à cette heure même de la nuit, il lava leurs plaies, et aussitôt il fut baptisé, lui et tous les siens.

³³ויקחם בלילה בשעה ההיא וירחץ את חבורתיהם וימהר להטבל הוא וכל אשר לו׃

³⁴And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.

³⁴Les ayant conduits dans son logement, il leur servit à manger, et il se réjouit avec toute sa famille de ce qu'il avait cru en Dieu.

³⁴ויעלם אל ביתו וישם שלחן לפניהם ויגל עם כל ביתו על היותו מאמין באלהים׃

³⁵But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men go.

³⁵Quand il fit jour, les préteurs envoyèrent les licteurs pour dire au geôlier: Relâche ces hommes.

³⁵ובחית הבקר שלחו השרים את השוטרים לאמר שלח את האנשים ההם׃

³⁶And the jailor reported the words to Paul, [saying], The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore come forth, and go in peace.

³⁶Et le geôlier annonça la chose à Paul: Les préteurs ont envoyé dire qu'on vous relâchât; maintenant donc sortez, et allez en paix.

³⁶ויגד שמר האסורים לפולוס את הדברים האלה לאמר שלחו השרים לפטר אתכם ועתה צאו ולכו בשלום׃

³⁷But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison; and do they now cast us out privily? Nay verily; but let them come themselves and bring us out.

³⁷Mais Paul dit aux licteurs: Après nous avoir battus de verges publiquement et sans jugement, nous qui sommes Romains, ils nous ont jetés en prison, et maintenant ils nous font sortir secrètement! Il n'en sera pas ainsi. Qu'ils viennent eux-mêmes nous mettre en liberté.

³⁷ויאמר פולוס אליהם הכה הכונו נגד כל העם בלא דין ומשפט ואנחנו אנשים רומיים וישליכו אתנו במשמר ועתה נסתר יגרשונו אל נא כי אם יבאו המה ויוציאונו׃

³⁸And the sergeants reported these words unto the magistrates: and they feared when they heard that they were Romans;

³⁸Les licteurs rapportèrent ces paroles aux préteurs, qui furent effrayés en apprenant qu'ils étaient Romains.

³⁸ויגידו השטרים לשרים את הדברים האלה ויהי כשמעם כי רומיים הם וייראו׃

³⁹and they came and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they asked them to go away from the city.

³⁹Ils vinrent les apaiser, et ils les mirent en liberté, en les priant de quitter la ville.

³⁹ויבאו ויחלו פניהם ויוציאום וישאלו מהם לצאת מן העיר׃

⁴⁰And they went out of the prison, and entered into [the house] of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

⁴⁰Quand ils furent sortis de la prison, ils entrèrent chez Lydie, et, après avoir vu et exhorté les frères, ils partirent.

⁴⁰ויצאו מן המשמר ויבאו אל בית לודיא ויראו את האחים ויזהירום וילכו לדרכם׃
