¹After these things he departed from Athens, and came to Corinth.

²And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome: and he came unto them;

²Il y trouva un Juif nommé Aquilas, originaire du Pont, récemment arrivé d'Italie avec sa femme Priscille, parce que Claude avait ordonné à tous les Juifs de sortir de Rome. Il se lia avec eux;

²וימצא יהודי נולד בפונטוס ומשו עקילס אשר בא מקרוב מן איטליא הוא ואשתו פריסקלה מפני אשר צוה קלודיוס את כל היהודים לסור מעיר רומי׃

³and because he was of the same trade, he abode with them, and they wrought, for by their trade they were tentmakers.

³et, comme il avait le même métier, il demeura chez eux et y travailla: ils étaient faiseurs de tentes.

³ויבא אליהם ויהי בהיתם בני אמנות אחת וישב אתם ויעש מלאכתו ואמנותם עשות יריעות אהלים׃

⁴And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

⁴Paul discourait dans la synagogue chaque sabbat, et il persuadait des Juifs et des Grecs.

⁴וידבר בבית הכנסת בכל שבת ושבת ויוכח את היהודים ואת היונים׃

⁵But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

⁵Mais quand Silas et Timothée furent arrivés de la Macédoine, il se donna tout entier à la parole, attestant aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.

⁵וכבוא סילא וטימותיוס ממקדוניא היה פולוס נגש ברוח להעיד אל היהודים כי ישוע הוא המשיח׃

⁶And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook out his raiment and said unto them, Your blood [be] upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

⁶Les Juifs faisant alors de l'opposition et se livrant à des injures, Paul secoua ses vêtements, et leur dit: Que votre sang retombe sur votre tête! J'en suis pur. Dès maintenant, j'irai vers les païens.

⁶ויהי כהמרותם וכגדפם וינער את בגדיו ויאמר אליהם דמכם בראשיכם ואנכי נקי מעתה אלכה לי אל הגוים׃

⁷And he departed thence, and went into the house of a certain man named Titus Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

⁷Et sortant de là, il entra chez un nommé Justus, homme craignant Dieu, et dont la maison était contiguë à la synagogue.

⁷וילך משם ויבא אל בית איש ושמו יוסטוס איש ירא אלהים וביתו סמוך לבית הכנסת׃

⁸And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

⁸Cependant Crispus, le chef de la synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa famille. Et plusieurs Corinthiens, qui avaient entendu Paul, crurent aussi, et furent baptisés.

⁸וקריספוס ראש הכנסת האמין באדון הוא וכל ביתו וגם קורנתים רבים בשמעם האמינו ויטבלו׃

⁹And the Lord said unto Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak and hold not thy peace:

⁹Le Seigneur dit à Paul en vision pendant la nuit: Ne crains point; mais parle, et ne te tais point,

⁹ודבר האדון היה אל פולוס במחזה בלילה לאמר אל תירא כי אם דבר ואל תחשה׃

¹⁰for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to harm thee: for I have much people in this city.

¹⁰Car je suis avec toi, et personne ne mettra la main sur toi pour te faire du mal: parle, car j'ai un peuple nombreux dans cette ville.

¹⁰כי עמך אנכי ואיש אל יגע בך להרע לך כי גוי גדול לי בעיר הזאת׃

¹¹And he dwelt [there] a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

¹¹Il y demeura un an et six mois, enseignant parmi les Corinthiens la parole de Dieu.

¹¹וישב שם שנה וששה חדשים וילמד בהם את דבר האלהים׃

¹²But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment-seat,

¹²Du temps que Gallion était proconsul de l'Achaïe, les Juifs se soulevèrent unanimement contre Paul, et le menèrent devant le tribunal,

¹²ויהי בהיות גליון שר מדינת אכיא ויקומו היהודים כלם וחדו על פולוס ויביאהו אל כסא המשפט׃

¹³saying, This man persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

¹³en disant: Cet homme excite les gens à servir Dieu d'une manière contraire à la loi.

¹³ויאמרו האיש הזה מפתה את בני האדם לעבד את אלהים בלא כתורה׃

¹⁴But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked villany, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

¹⁴Paul allait ouvrir la bouche, lorsque Gallion dit aux Juifs: S'il s'agissait de quelque injustice ou de quelque méchante action, je vous écouterais comme de raison, ô Juifs;

¹⁴ויהי אך בקש פולוס לפתח את פיו וגליון אמר אל היהודים לאמר אם היה דבר פשע או מעשה נבלה כי עתה נשאתי ושמעתי אתכם היהודים כמשפט׃

¹⁵but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; I am not minded to be a judge of these matters.

¹⁵mais, s'il s'agit de discussions sur une parole, sur des noms, et sur votre loi, cela vous regarde: je ne veux pas être juge de ces choses.

¹⁵אבל אם היא שאלה על מלין ושמות והדת שלכם ראו אתם ואני אין רצוני להיות שפט על דברים כאלה׃

¹⁶And he drove them from the judgment-seat.

¹⁶Et il les renvoya du tribunal.

¹⁶ויגרש אתם מלפני כסא המשפט׃

¹⁷And they all laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio cared for none of these things.

¹⁷Alors tous, se saisissant de Sosthène, le chef de la synagogue, le battirent devant le tribunal, sans que Gallion s'en mît en peine.

¹⁷ויאחזו כל היונים את סוסתנים ראש הכנסת ויכוהו לפני כסא המשפט וגליון לא שת לבו גם לזאת׃

¹⁸And Paul, having tarried after this yet many days, took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila: having shorn his head in Cenchreae; for he had a vow.

¹⁸Paul resta encore assez longtemps à Corinthe. Ensuite il prit congé des frères, et s'embarqua pour la Syrie, avec Priscille et Aquilas, après s'être fait raser la tête à Cenchrées, car il avait fait un voeu.

¹⁸ופולוס ישב שם עוד ימים רבים ויפטר מן האחים וירד באניה ללכת אל סוריא ואתו פריסקלה ועקילס ויגלח את ראשו בקנכרי כי נדר עליו׃

¹⁹And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

¹⁹Ils arrivèrent à Ephèse, et Paul y laissa ses compagnons. Etant entré dans la synagogue, il s'entretint avec les Juifs,

¹⁹ויבאו אל אפסוס ויעזב אתם שם והוא הלך לבית הכנסת וידבר עם היהודים׃

²⁰And when they asked him to abide a longer time, he consented not;

²⁰qui le prièrent de prolonger son séjour. Mais il n'y consentit point,

²⁰ויבקשו ממנו להאריך ימי שבתו אתם ולא אבה׃

²¹but taking his leave of them, and saying, I will return again unto you if God will, he set sail from Ephesus.

²¹et il prit congé d'eux, en disant: Il faut absolument que je célèbre la fête prochaine à Jérusalem. Je reviendrai vers vous, si Dieu le veut. Et il partit d'Ephèse.

²¹כי אם נפטר מהם באמרו מחיב אני לחג את החג הבא בירושלים ואחרי כן אשובה אליכם אם ירצה יהוה וילך לו באניה מן אפסוס׃

²²And when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and saluted the church, and went down to Antioch.

²²Etant débarqué à Césarée, il monta à Jérusalem, et, après avoir salué l'Eglise, il descendit à Antioche.

²²ויבא אל קסרין ויעל וישאל לשלום הקהלה וירד אל אנטיוכיא׃

²³And having spent some time [there], he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.

²³Lorsqu'il eut passé quelque temps à Antioche, Paul se mit en route, et parcourut successivement la Galatie et la Phrygie, fortifiant tous les disciples.

²³וישב שם ימים אחדים וילך למסעיו ויעבר בארץ גלטיא ופרוגיא ויחזק את כל התלמידים׃

²⁴Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the scriptures.

²⁴Un Juif nommé Apollos, originaire d'Alexandrie, homme éloquent et versé dans les Ecritures, vint à Ephèse.

²⁴ואיש יהודי בא אל אפסוס ועיר מולדתו אלכסנדריא ושמו אפולוס איש דברים ותקיף בכתובים׃

²⁵This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spake and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John:

²⁵Il était instruit dans la voie du Seigneur, et, fervent d'esprit, il annonçait et enseignait avec exactitude ce qui concerne Jésus, bien qu'il ne connût que le baptême de Jean.

²⁵הוא היה מלמד דרך האדון והוא מדבר כחם רוחו ומלמד היטב על אדות ישוע ולא ידע כי אם טבילת יוחנן לבדה׃

²⁶and he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more accurately.

²⁶Il se mit à parler librement dans la synagogue. Aquilas et Priscille, l'ayant entendu, le prirent avec eux, et lui exposèrent plus exactement la voie de Dieu.

²⁶והוא החל לקרא בבית הכנסת בבטחון לבב וישמעו אתו עקילס ופריסקלה ויקחהו אליהם ויוסיפו להגיד לו את דרך האלהים באר היטב׃

²⁷And when he was minded to pass over into Achaia, the brethren encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him: and when he was come, he helped them much that had believed through grace;

²⁷Comme il voulait passer en Achaïe, les frères l'y encouragèrent, et écrivirent aux disciples de le bien recevoir. Quand il fut arrivé, il se rendit, par la grâce de Dieu, très utile à ceux qui avaient cru;

²⁷ויחפץ ללכת לאכיא ויכתבו האחים אל התלמידים ויעררו אתם לקבלו ויבא שמה ויעזר הרבה את המאמינים על ידי החסד׃

²⁸for he powerfully confuted the Jews, [and that] publicly, showing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

²⁸Car il réfutait vivement les Juifs en public, démontrant par les Ecritures que Jésus est le Christ.

²⁸כי בחזקה התוכח עם היהודים לפני כל העם ויראם מן המקראות כי ישוע הוא המשיח׃
