¹And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with certain elders, and [with] an orator, one Tertullus; and they informed the governor against Paul.

¹Cinq jours après, arriva le souverain sacrificateur Ananias, avec des anciens et un orateur nommé Tertulle. Ils portèrent plainte au gouverneur contre Paul.

¹וירד חנניה הכהן הגדול אחרי חמשת ימים ואתו הזקנים וטרטלוס איש דברים ויודיעו את ההגמון את דבר ריבם עם פולוס׃

²And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy much peace, and that by the providence evils are corrected for this nation,

²Paul fut appelé, et Tertulle se mit à l'accuser, en ces termes:

²ויהי כאשר קראו לו ויחל טרטלוס לשטנו ויאמר׃

³we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

³Très excellent Félix, tu nous fais jouir d'une paix profonde, et cette nation a obtenu de salutaires réformes par tes soins prévoyants; c'est ce que nous reconnaissons en tout et partout avec une entière gratitude.

³את אשר ישבנו על ידך בשלום רב ואשר נעשו תקנות רבות לעם הזה בהשגחתך נקבל על כל פנים ובכל מקום בכל תודה פיליכס האדיר׃

⁴But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hear us of thy clemency a few words.

⁴Mais, pour ne pas te retenir davantage, je te prie d'écouter, dans ta bonté, ce que nous avons à dire en peu de mots.

⁴אך לבלתי הלאותך הרבה אתחנן אליך אשר תשמענו בקצר דברינו כחמלתך׃

⁵For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

⁵Nous avons trouvé cet homme, qui est une peste, qui excite des divisions parmi tous les Juifs du monde, qui est chef de la secte des Nazaréens,

⁵כי מצאנו את האיש הזה כקטב ומגרה מדינים בין כל היהודים על פני תבל והוא ראש כת הנצרים׃

⁶who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold: [and we would have judged him according to our law.]

⁶et qui même a tenté de profaner le temple. Et nous l'avons arrêté. Nous avons voulu le juger selon notre loi;

⁶והוא גם נסה לחלל את המקדש ונתפש אותו ונחפץ לשפטו על פי תורתנו׃

⁷[But the chief captain Lysias came, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,]

⁷mais le tribun Lysias étant survenu, l'a arraché de nos mains avec une grande violence,

⁷ויבא עלינו לוסיאס שר האלף ברב כח ויחטפהו מידינו׃

⁸[commanding his accusers to come before thee.] from whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him.

⁸en ordonnant à ses accusateurs de venir devant toi. Tu pourras toi-même, en l'interrogeant, apprendre de lui tout ce dont nous l'accusons.

⁸ויצו את שטניו כי בוא יבאו לפניך ואתה כי תחקר אתו תוכל לדעת מפיהו את כל הדברים האלה אשר אנחנו טענים עליו׃

⁹And the Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that these things were so.

⁹Les Juifs se joignirent à l'accusation, soutenant que les choses étaient ainsi.

⁹וימלאו היהודים את דבריו לאמר כי כן הוא׃

¹⁰And when the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, Paul answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I cheerfully make my defense:

¹⁰Après que le gouverneur lui eut fait signe de parler, Paul répondit: Sachant que, depuis plusieurs années, tu es juge de cette nation, c'est avec confiance que je prends la parole pour défendre ma cause.

¹⁰וירמז ההגמון אל פולוס לדבר ויען ויאמר יען אשר ידעתי כי זה כמה שנים שופט אתה לעם הזה הנני מצטדק בלב בטוח על עניני׃

¹¹Seeing that thou canst take knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem:

¹¹Il n'y a pas plus de douze jours, tu peux t'en assurer, que je suis monté à Jérusalem pour adorer.

¹¹אתה תוכל לדעת אשר לא עברו יותר משנים עשר יום מעת עלותי ירושלים להשתחות׃

¹²and neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city.

¹²On ne m'a trouvé ni dans le temple, ni dans les synagogues, ni dans la ville, disputant avec quelqu'un, ou provoquant un rassemblement séditieux de la foule.

¹²ולא במקדש מצאוני מתוכח עם איש או מעורר מהומה בעם ולא בבתי הכנסיות ולא בעיר׃

¹³Neither can they prove to thee the things whereof they now accuse me.

¹³Et ils ne sauraient prouver ce dont ils m'accusent maintenant.

¹³גם אין ביכלתם להוכיח עלי את אשר עתה הם שטנים אותי׃

¹⁴But this I confess unto thee, that after the Way which they call a sect, so serve I the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

¹⁴Je t'avoue bien que je sers le Dieu de mes pères selon la voie qu'ils appellent une secte, croyant tout ce qui est écrit dans la loi et dans les prophètes,

¹⁴אבל את זאת מודה אני לפניך כי בדרך ההיא אשר יקראוה בשם כת בה אני עבד את אלהי אבותינו בהאמיני בכל הכתוב בתורה ובנביאים׃

¹⁵having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust.

¹⁵et ayant en Dieu cette espérance, comme ils l'ont eux-mêmes, qu'il y aura une résurrection des justes et des injustes.

¹⁵ותקותי לאלהים אשר גם הם יחכו לה זאת היא כי עתידה להיות תחית המתים לצדיקים ולרשעים׃

¹⁶Herein I also exercise myself to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always.

¹⁶C'est pourquoi je m'efforce d'avoir constamment une conscience sans reproche devant Dieu et devant les hommes.

¹⁶ובזאת גם עמלתי להיות תמים לב לאלהים ולאדם תמיד׃

¹⁷Now after some years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings:

¹⁷Après une absence de plusieurs années, je suis venu pour faire des aumônes à ma nation, et pour présenter des offrandes.

¹⁷ומקץ שנים רבות באתי להביא נדבות לעמי ולהקריב קרבן׃

¹⁸amidst which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult: but [there were] certain Jews from Asia--

¹⁸C'est alors que quelques Juifs d'Asie m'ont trouvé purifié dans le temple, sans attroupement ni tumulte.

¹⁸ואהי מטהר במקדש לא בהמון עם ולא במהומה וכן מצאוני אנשים יהודים מאסיא׃

¹⁹who ought to have been here before thee, and to make accusation, if they had aught against me.

¹⁹C'était à eux de paraître en ta présence et de se porter accusateurs, s'ils avaient quelque chose contre moi.

¹⁹אשר עליהם היה לעמד הנה לפניך ולענות בי אם היה להם דבר נגדי׃

²⁰Or else let these men themselves say what wrong-doing they found when I stood before the council,

²⁰Ou bien, que ceux-ci déclarent de quel crime ils m'ont trouvé coupable, lorsque j'ai comparu devant le sanhédrin,

²⁰או אלה ידברו נא המה מה מצאו בי עול בעמדי לפני הסנהדרין׃

²¹except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question before you this day.

²¹moins que ce ne soit uniquement de ce cri que j'ai fait entendre au milieu d'eux: C'est à cause de la résurrection des morts que je suis aujourd'hui mis en jugement devant vous.

²¹בלתי אם הדבר האחד ההוא אשר קראתי בעמדי בתוכם כי על תחית המתים אני נדון היום לפניכם׃

²²But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter.

²²Félix, qui savait assez exactement ce qui concernait cette doctrine, les ajourna, en disant: Quand le tribun Lysias sera venu, j'examinerai votre affaire.

²²ויהי כשמע פיליכס את הדרים האלה ויאחר את דינם לעת אחרת כי עניני הדרך הזאת נודעו לו היטב ויאמר ברדת אלי לוסיאס שר האלף אשפט על דברכם׃

²³And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister unto him.

²³Et il donna l'ordre au centenier de garder Paul, en lui laissant une certaine liberté, et en n'empêchant aucun des siens de lui rendre des services.

²³ויצו את שר המאה לשום אתו במשמר ולתת לו רוחה ולבלתי מנע איש ממידעיו משרת אתו ומבוא אליו׃

²⁴But after certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.

²⁴Quelques jours après, Félix vint avec Drusille, sa femme, qui était Juive, et il fit appeler Paul. Il l'entendit sur la foi en Christ.

²⁴ואחרי ימים אחדים בא פיליכס עם אשתו דרוסלה והיא יהודית וישלח לקרא לפולוס וישמע אתו על דבר האמונה במשיח׃

²⁵And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time; and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me.

²⁵Mais, comme Paul discourait sur la justice, sur la tempérance, et sur le jugement à venir, Félix, effrayé, dit: Pour le moment retire-toi; quand j'en trouverai l'occasion, je te rappellerai.

²⁵ויהי כדברו על הצדק והפרישות ועל הדין העתיד לבוא ויחרד פיליכס ויען עתה זה לך ולכשאפנה אשוב לקרא לך׃

²⁶He hoped withal that money would be given him of Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

²⁶Il espérait en même temps que Paul lui donnerait de l'argent; aussi l'envoyait-il chercher assez fréquemment, pour s'entretenir avec lui.

²⁶והוא מקוה כי פולוס יתן לו שחד למען יתירהו ובעבור זה קרא לו פעמים הרבה וידבר עמו׃

²⁷But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

²⁷Deux ans s'écoulèrent ainsi, et Félix eut pour successeur Porcius Festus. Dans le désir de plaire aux Juifs, Félix laissa Paul en prison.

²⁷ויהי מקץ שנתים ימים ויקם פרקיוס פסטוס תחת פיליכס ופיליכס חפץ להתרצות אל היהודים ויעזב את פולוס חבוש בבית האסורים׃
